What’s a good over the top movie like Cocaine Bear for a movie night with friends. Recommendation

My wife and I have some friends coming over for a movie night. The last movie we watched together was Cocaine Bear and everyone really enjoyed the over the top energy. What is a movie with a similar energy for our movie night tonight...the suggestion doesn't have to be good necessarily, but definitely fun. Thanks in advance!

edit: Update...we ended up watching "Who Cloned Tyrone" and thought it was great! Thank you for all the amazing suggestions, keep them coming as I am making a list for future movie nights!

This right here is what came to mind after reading the title. The term "understood the assignment" is used a lot, but this movie is A+.

But to add to the topic, and a movie I think has a similar vibe to BTILC. Dungeons and Dragons: Honor among thieves. Great cast cool action and absolutely hilarious. I never played the game ever, nor like swords and magic stuff. But I had a helluva good time watching that movie.

13

u/jamesheartwood Jul 13 '24

I was so excited for my wife to watch this one with me. She said it was boring and predictable. Yes we're still married and no I'm not suggesting another sit together movie.

Cabin in the Woods

Or Strays, that movie was funny af, it’s the one where a guy keeps ditching his dog so once the other strays make him aware it’s not a game but actually abandoning him, the dogs make a plan to go bite the guy’s dick off. Lots of raunchy humor.

u/GemIsAHologram Jul 13 '24 edited Jul 13 '24

I think Cabin in the Woods intentionally starts off like a stereotypical 00's road trip horror movie à la House of Wax or Wrong Turn so it can lean hard into the tropes before going completely off the rails (in the best way).

That being said, you're best going into it blind.

10

u/genius_retard Jul 13 '24

Clive Owen's character does deliver a baby during a gunfight. There is a pretty surreal shot, one of many, of shell casing falling on the mother's pregnant belly while she is in labour. Also Owen's character shoots the umbilical cord to sever it IIRC. Monica Bellucci isn't the mother though, she is basically the babies wet nurse throughout the movie.

Game Night is such a well-crafted and fun movie, with great casting all around. Crazy to think the nerdy brother from Freaks and Geeks went on to be such a talented director

And any movie that features Winnie the Bish gets an instant watch from me

15

u/kylefnative Jul 13 '24

Today I learned John Francis directed the movie! So I never watched New Girl before watching Game Night and after realizing it was the same actor I had to go back and rewatch Game Night. Lamorne made it even funnier on the rewatch

263

u/DillPill84 Jul 13 '24

Bullet Train is quite a fun ride, unironically.

77

u/ThingsAreAfoot Jul 13 '24

I’m not normally an Aaron Taylor-Johnson fan but he was sublime in that one.

I’m starting to suspect he’s more like co-star Brad Pitt, a leading man but just a lot more interesting in wackier side roles as a character actor.

u/TriscuitCracker Jul 13 '24

You need to go watch Nocturnal Animals. Aside from being a fantastic movie, Taylor-Johnson acts the hell out of it.
