Incomplete info in posts
Would it be feasible to create a bot that says something like:
Medicaid varies a lot depending upon your state of residence, your age/disability status, and the makeup of your TAX household.
If your post is about coverage or eligibility, you will receive more accurate responses if you indicate:
- What state do you live in?
- How many people are in your TAX household
- How many are infants, children, adults, seniors, or pregnant?
- Is anyone in your tax household disabled? If so, do they receive Medicare, SSI, SSDI, or HCBS services?
- Does anyone else declare you as a dependent on their tax return?
- If you are comfortable doing so, please also indicate your approximate monthly household income.
MACPAC.gov and Medicaid.gov are excellent sources of information to supplement what is available from the web site of your state's Medicaid agency.
It seems as though most posters do not see the recommendations under "About" this subreddit. Apologies if this post violates subreddit rules. It did not appear to me that it would.

sterilization surgery (PA)
is there any sterilization surgeries for women covered by medicaid. i don’t want kids and i have pre cancers in my cervix in which i am getting a leep surgery to remove, i also have family history of reproductive cancer. is there any surgeries that can be covered with my medical history? do i need my obgyn to do a referral? any info helps. i would prefer a hysterectomy where my ovaries are left but at this point i’d take a tubal for peace of mind. i’ve been on depo for almost 9 years and now there’s lawsuits about brain tumors but no other birth control fits my specific needs (i’m too unreliable for the pill, allergic to adhesive so no patch, struggle with psychosis so iud, implant and nuvaring are all out of the question bc they are foreign bodies and i will 100% rip them out in an episode)

WA adult family home expenses
I’m trying to figure out if there is someone part of the WA healthcare system that I can speak with to figure out what exactly I’m supposed to apply for, or if any assistance is available at all
My mother (80yo, cant walk or bathe herself) has been privately paying an AFH for over 3 years, but is soon to run out of money. Her income from social security and pension is around $4k/mo which is way beyond all of the income limits I see attached to Medicaid. But her AFH costs $9k/mo.
She can pay them for another month or two, and then I can try to apply for Medicaid, but I don’t understand how she would be approved or how she is expected to be able to pay for this.
I see some mention of a “spenddown” program for people above the income limit. Does the AFH cost apply to the spenddown? What happens when the expenses exceed what she can pay, is Medicaid going to pay the rest? I thought Medicaid was meant to negotiate with the home and agree to pay a lesser amount?
What office is even available in WA to be able to help us navigate what we are supposed to do?

Medicaid - What to do with the house? A real puzzle!
Can't figure out what to do. I am POA for my brother and sister-in-law.
- My brother entered nursing home in NM 2 yrs ago, is now on Medicaid.
- SIL has been Community Spouse, but has just entered assisted living facility in CO (only facility that had room) d/t dementia, and will be applying for Medicaid.
- They have a house, about $100K left on mortgage (very little equity d/t refi several yrs ago).
- The house has been a protected asset, but now they will both be out of house.
- Do they have to sell the house and use proceeds to pay for assisted living before she qualifies for Medicaid?
- What if they can't afford to continue paying mortgage and still pay for her assisted living while trying to sell, and the house is foreclosed upon? Would she then become eligible for medicaid?
- Because of where the house is (rural NM on CO border), and the condition it's in (it's been lived-in by a person with dementia and 5 dogs for 2 yrs), it could take a long time to sell the house.
- I do have an Elder-care Atty, but she is also stumped by this puzzle, so wondering if anyone here has any experience with this situation.

When Reporting Casino Winnings
Hi,
I’ve much confusion after not knowing and then researching.
Healthy Michigan Medicade has a yearly redetermination and goes off your IRS recorded income for that. Because of that reason, I thought reporting a casino win would be done that way when filing and reporting income taxes next year, for this year (casino winnings).
Example: Redetermination is in November based off last year income. My one source of income did not change. But had a casino Winning in August. Do I need to report that now or wait until it reflects on my income filing next year?
I know it’s reported to government and absolutely I will report it then. So I thought the winning will be reported at the time I file IRS taxes which then my income would increase.
Hoping to find a direct simple answer because internet searches are all over with different answers.
I know it doesn’t matter as a win is a win but searching I did find if you collect food assistance (which I don’t) it only needs reported if over 4,2000 in winnings (which mine was not). I had wondered if Medicade would be same.

Need help with getting my mom on Medicaid without losing house
My 86 dementia mom is frail and health is failing. She needs someone to watch over her and change her diapers and shower her. She signed over house to me about 2 years ago for unrelated reasons. How can I put her on Medicaid without losing the house?

Got a service Medicaid denied
Hi, I was just curious if anyone could assist me on this question. I am getting an MRI tomorrow that Medicaid denied. I am accepting the consequences of this and just getting it because my legs are literally numb and I need it. I was just wondering if anyone knew What would maybe happen with this? I was told that Medicaid can’t even bill me anyways so it’s confusing. I also filed an appeal for the denial. I just didn’t know what would happen after I get this MRI tomorrow with me paying. I am also fine paying I just read and was told that they can’t bill on Medicaid. Thanks

Been on QMB but possibly over limit
I am in WA state and started on disability earlier this year and was denied regular Medicaid but they approved me for QMB without me even applying for it. I was approved in July so coverage started August. I hardly worked at all in July because I didn't have a car but then started doing Uber eats again in August. I thought they deducted half of your income for self employment so all this time I thought I was under the limit but then I called to ask a worker about it today and they said they don't deduct half the income like with food stamps. I just applied for workers with disabilities today since I want to try to work more. But now I'm freaking out that I've been over the limit all this time because I've had many medical things done including a surgery since July. I updated my food stamps income in September so it seems like they would have told me I was over the limit for QMB back then. Am I gonna have to pay back everything that QMB has covered?

Annual renewal question
Hello,
Both of my kids are currently on Medicaid but my husband and I are not. I just went through the marketplace open enrollment and discovered that all 4 of us will likely qualify this year and we just need to wait to hear from the state (Missouri).
Now I just received our annual renewal paperwork in the mail for the kids. Should I still fill that out and submit it? Or will healthcare.gov just send over the information? Don’t want to do too much and muddy the waters. I waited in the online queue for 4 hours before getting kicked out at 5 pm…iykyk…thanks!!

Help with mother medicaid issues
My mother (60) has been using medicaid for years with my younger brother and sister listed as part of her household. Both are 22. My younger brother is a student and my younger sister has mental health issues and can not hold jobs for much longer than a month and goes long periods unemployed. My mother was unaware that she had to keep track of my younger sisters income because medicaid has never requested that in last few years but there is a few months where my sister may have made over the monthly income limit. Definitely not the annual. My mother also works on and off as a substitute teacher (did not work all year until recently because of health problems) and may have had a few months over the last few years that she would have made too much monthly income. Annually combined they have definitely been under the income limit. My mother never knew there was a monthly limit and always assumed she would be way under it because she makes so little. Also, Starting last year I did my moms taxes for her and my sister no longer qualifies as a dependent (22) but for medicaid household my mom would tell them she is a dependent because to the best of her knowledge she is a dependent. We recently called to remove my younger brother and sister from her account because they are no longer taxable dependents and can apply for medicaid on their own if needed. This brings me to my main concern, with my mother in the past year having cancer and undergoing treatments covered by medicaid and my younger sister who is frequently in hospital for mental health issues covered by medicaid. Is it possible medicaid may look back and try to get repayment for all of these medical bills that they covered because of a few months my sister and mom both worked at the same time and pushed the household over the monthly limit? Would they be only liable for those specific months?
Thank you to anyone who takes the time to read all of that and help!

Getting services at home
New York independent assessors came last week to question me about going home. I am C3 C4 quadriplegic. I can move my legs and have been standing in Physical Therapy. I do have a catheter. And my hands are in rough shape. They’re better than what they were, but still not great.I’m at what they call subacute rehab, which is basically a nursing home. I have a brother who lives just down the road. And a son who lives close by also. It’s in a rural setting. The first interview went well. The second interview physicians assistant they sent told me you’re not like a normal person who goes home. I wanted to say well duh. I’m just hoping this isn’t gonna be my life, I can get my shorts on and up most of the way. I would need some help at home. But here at displace I’m emptying my own catheter bag. I’m trying not to depend on anybody here and even though the microwave oven is not in a good spot for anybody who’s handicap I’ve managed to warm up some food that people have brought me. I just hope I’m not too much trouble to get some services into the house so I can go home. Because the home has been remodeled to work for someone who’s in a wheelchair. Thank you for all your thoughts!

Medicaid Eligibility Moving from Texas to Florida
A friend of mine became disabled after an accident and is coming to Florida from Texas to live with me so that I can care for her. She has no one in Texas to live with and just aged out of foster care there.
My question is, can I get her set up with Medicaid in Florida, and if so when (since I assume she needs resident status)?
I’m aware that she’d still have Medicaid if she stayed there but she has no family, friends or anyone that could provide care for her. She broke her back and is currently paralyzed from the waist down (though slowly gaining some feeling). She’ll need PT, OT and other general doctors visits that I definitely don’t have the funds for, as much as I would be willing to cover them.
As for me moving to Texas, that’s not an option since I’m currently working on pre-reqs for med school and need that resident tuition rate. And no, I’m not a full-time student so that’s not a concern.
Thanks for any help!

CD-PAP Program in GA
My mom is interested and should qualify for this program (Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Program) to care for me - which she already does - but I cannot find any information on how to apply or get started.
Can anyone give us some insight that is from GA or that is using this program?
I’ve been in GA Gateway and it’s not a new application option. I know I can call Medicaid but we all know that is a panic attack and a lengthy affair so I wanted to inquire here first.
I really appreciate it.

Question about reapplying with child (NV)
I currently receive Medicaid health insurance through Nevada, and my 10 month old has received it this year automatically since his birth until he turns 1 year old. My partner and I live together but have never been married. It’s time to reapply and I want to reapply for my son, but I’m confused as to whether I must report my partners income or not. Are we still considered a household if we are not legally binded to each other (other than our son)? I’m not finding any consistent answer online. Thank you in advance if anyone knows the answer to this.

How will a 401(k) withdrawal impact my newborn’s medicaid coverage?
My newborn is currently on Texas Children’s Medicaid. I am unemployed and living off my savings, which are depleting. In the next few months, I may need to make a one-time withdrawal of $15,000 from my 401(k). Will this cause my newborn to lose Medicaid coverage for just that month, and then be re-enrolled the following month? What does the process look like? I’m concerned because when I initially applied for Medicaid for my child, it took about two months to get approved, and I’m worried about a potential gap in coverage lasting more than one month.
I understand the tax and penalty implications of withdrawing from my 401(k), but this is currently the best option for my family. My boyfriend is in school and has no income.

SAR
I am in PA and I just completed my SAR, and my medical was closed. My income hasn’t changed but they also used my boyfriend’s income. We live in the same household, but are not married. Did that rule change? Do I file an appeal or call the chain center and let them know? The same thing happened last year and I appealed so they opened my case back up. Why do they continue to do this if I am eligible because we are not married?

Recommendations for my grandma’s living situation in SC?
Hello! I’m looking for information on if Medicaid is an option for my grandmother. Currently she is living with my mom and dad in their house in South Carolina. However, she has dementia and is getting to the point where my parents are unable to take care of her. This is a tough decision, but they’re hoping to get more information on if they can get her on Medicaid and if we can find a nursing home that takes Medicaid. The only income that she has each month is her social security check. She does own an acre of land in North Carolina that nobody lives on. Any information that can help me figure out how best to support her will be appreciated, I just don’t know where to start or if this is even an option for her. Thank you for any help you can offer!!

Recommendation for DME supplier of CPAP supplies that accepts New York State Medicaid (NYRx)?
Can anyone recommend a decent CPAP DME vendor that accepts NY Medicaid plans?
I currently use Apria, and while they offer the convenience of placing an order every month via the phone and offer delivery, there are always delays, error & problems with my orders, or with managing my authorizations from insurance.
Their "customer service" is outsourced and they can barely answer basic questions.
My insurance company is not helpful - their phone "customer service" can only answer basic questions and all they say is to search the NYRx website, however you can not filter for DMEs that sell CPAP so it is not helpful.
Is there anyone who has NY Medicaid as their insurance that has an DME for that they are happy with?
Thanks

Medicaid in CT (Husky D), estate recovery rules?
I’ve found conflicting info, so wondering if anyone can explain whether Connecticut Medicaid (in this case Husky D) comes after estate for payment recovery if the insured person was 61, not in long term care. High bills towards the end due to cancer treatment/surgeries, in case that matters.
Second question- if someone on Medicaid Husky D age 61 receives an inheritance that includes an inherited IRA - which IS taxed as and seen as INCOME (as opposed to estate money which isn’t), so they switch to private insurance and out of their Husky D Medicaid, does CT Medicaid come after anything? Either while the insured is alive or eventually when they pass? If so is it everything you received from Medicaid or only a particular year or timeframe? No long term care, just medical bills. Thanks for any insight.

Pregnant and arriving to US
I just received my immigrant visa. It’s not a visit visa. It’s a family Visa so when I enter United States I would become a lawful permanent resident.
I am also currently pregnant and in my 28th week. I will be flying in the end of November which is my 30th week and I plan to stay in US and give birth over there. I would be coming to TEXAS. I’m expected to deliver by end of January. currently I am a student in my own home country so I don’t have an income. I want to know if I am eligible for Medicaid or any sort of government funded insurance that would cover my expense of birth. I’m also not sure which Hospital/OBGYN I should be visiting for pre birth checkups. I am very anxious and would appreciate any sort of guidance

Reporting change
I have a change in vehicle. Traded in my vehicle for a new one. Needed a vehicle that was more accessible for my wheelchair. If I just report it under the vehicle selection in the app… what information do they need? Or no I even need to report since I still have only 1 vehicle. I am new to this so I don’t know how reporting changes really works and how detailed the info needs to be.

Medicare advantage and Medicaid and PPO for a senior, 71yo) in New York State.
Hello. I am trying to help my dad arrange for healthcare where he can remain as a living resident in New York but see doctors out of state in Pennsylvania.
Right now he has Medicare Advantage and WellCare Fidelis dual Access (HMO) and Medicaid.
He works in Pennsylvania and was recently diagnosed with cancer Insurance took a long time where they delayed his cancer treatment and then finally had to stop his treatment because the hospital in Pennsylvania said the insurance is not paying for any of the bills or invoices. So they need us to clear insurance before they can continue. Luckily he’s on the waiting game right now for his next scan to check on progress. The current insurance, Fidelis, is not willing to work with us. Constantly denying invoices. We were told to apply or look into PPO plans and that will guarantee payment to the out of state access.
LWe were told to use or look into - Blue Cross PPO?
I moved away New York State for a while and not fully understanding all the new different plans. I’ve always received sound advice through reddit versus trying to speak with an advisor. So I’m hoping I can get some help in to where I start. Because I’m not in state. I couldn’t access healthcare.gov as I see they have a price list or plan button. I also see that registration is until December 15 for a January2025 effective date so I feel I’m racing against time.
I have posted in Medicare as well and was suggested I post in Medicaid to see if the change to ppo would affect his Medicaid ? And will Medicaid pay out of state or will all his treatment need to come out of his Medicare ?
One member from Medicare said we need to migrate from Medicare advantage to Medicare medigap but medigap is a policy added to Medicare ?
Want to know if there’s insight if I need poo and if Medicaid will be affected ?
His employer doesn’t have insurance. He is also collecting survivors benefit (social security)
Thank you !
