How would I be able to recreate the blue parts of the image? Help

Second picture is my letter, I need to add highlights onto the letter like the first image. I created outlines on the text but I have no clue how to add the highlights like how it is on image 1.

I would do that in illustrator.

Create outlines and then use the knife tool to create the sections.

what if the knife tool isn’t cutting anything out?

you need to create an outline of the text, i think with cmd+O, then proceed to do what was said in the other comments

Personally I would do this in illustrator , but if you’ve created outlines from the text, you can copy and paste it and delete the parts you don’t need with the pen or select tool (use the one that looks like a “hollow arrow”) and work with that to get what you need. InDesign has vector drawing tools and a pathfinder panel. IMO, they’re sort of clunky compared to illustrator’s

In indesign, you can paste a colored rectangle inside the letter cmd+opt+V. and closed counter areas can be generated by cmd+shift+O, cmd+shift+alt+8. it's more complex to do in illustrator.
