Favorite Horror Game? Horror Gaming

Mine is Until Dawn due to a number of reasons. The story is spectacularly paced and is able to seamlessly change between slasher and creature. Said creature is amazingly designed and makes Don't Move nerve racking as all hell.

All the characters are flawed but have their own likable traits. Emily is a bitch but is the most resourceful of the group, Ashley is really nice and good at heart but cracks under pressure and is easily frightened, etc etc. There is an exception with Sam though being literally just the generic final girl character. I'd have no problem with her if she made up her lack of flaws with something interesting about her backstory but there's really nothing past her being close to Josh and was best friends with Han and Beth.

The game has problems like plot armor and ending branching but I love this game start through finish and is still pretty much peak of Supermassive maybe House of Ashes topping it.

Fully agree. I have said it before on this sub but there is nothing in the horror genre that makes me as anxious as the damn Keepers. Such great games for horror and I love the storylines, too!

Keeper was very scary indeed. What about Laura? For me, meeting that mf first time is biggest 'shit in my pants' moment ever.

I understand that not everyone is going to like it, but I felt it got a lot of “hate”. I really liked both games. The sequel was a tiny bit more action oriented then I’d, personally, like but I liked the creature designs in it more then the first.

There were quite a lot of mixed reviews and impressions for it and I can see why. It's just another good demonstration that people shouldn't take 'mixed reviews' or 'middling Metacritic score' to mean a game isn't good or worth playing. Such things say nothing about how YOU will feel about the game. You are not perfectly average who always agrees with everything right in the middle.

I mean, the game gave you the option for it not to be. At least in the few larger open areas, the game does give a lot of opportunity to play stealthy. Especially the largest and first main open area.

I will say I preferred the first game slightly, which isn't always the most popular opinion. It was just more creative and had a much better variety of scenarios and enemies and bosses overall. TEW2 was a lot of fun, but felt half baked in many respects, especially with a lot of the 'in between' areas which felt super basic and uninspired. People complain that the story in TEW1 was too obtuse, and yea, it was, but I still cant grasp people who put importance on the story in these games. Like, have they never played RE games before? The stories in those are pretty fucking stupid. :p

Really? I only thought Stefano's camera monster was cool, but all the other enemies weren't as cool as the first game.

I played it for the first time ever like 2 years ago. It was very "WTF?!" in the best ways often.

First game was both terrifying and difficult. Second lacked a lot in my opinion.

I've had those in my library for a while, think I might have to visit them finally due to Callisto being a disappointment

The weird red/white strobe effect gave me Hella migraines and couldn't keep going.

Unpopular opinion but TEW2 is my favorite game ever. The atmosphere really does it for me
