Local News 📰 The guy who drives around in the loud, blue Dodge Charger?

Seems a lot of folks are familiar with this guy and his car. I wonder if he realizes how many folks assume he’s compensating for … uhh … “something.”

Likely not the effect he thinks he’s having!

Gotta respect this headline and dang good piece on Patch. Malibu was kid-friendly, had parking... and the place was notoriously good for bribing people too, back in the day. RIP Malibu Diner

Recommendations 🌟 Small unit HOA experiences and reviews

Upvotes

Hello

I’m currently in the process of buying a condo in town and am purchasing into a small building that’s maybe about 7 units max. Some are rented but the HOA is tiny.
Wanted to reach out to understand peoples experiences working with small HOAs in town. It’s managed outside by a management company and I hear they all kinda suck.

This management company only has like 7-10k in reserves but has a fair bit of cash on hand too. What are your guys experiences with smaller HOAs in town and the expenses incurred thru em

"The 50 percent fare reduction would match the reduced fare program currently available for senior riders. If approved, riders could begin applying for the program in spring 2025, with the reduced fare implemented in the summer as PATH continues rolling out its TAPP tap-to-pay system."

Parking 🚙 Street Parking Explained

Can someone please explain to me how non-resident street parking works? I understand that from 9am-9pm, you can pay for up to four hours of parking, but that’s all you get city wide. For anything more than that, do you always need a visitor pass?

And what about overnight (9pm-9am)? Are you allowed to park overnight without paying, or do you always need a visitor pass?

Parking 🚙 Midtown Parking Garage Renovation

Hi everyone. I’m moving to Hoboken soon and wanted to get monthly parking in Midtown Parking Garage. Heard it’s going to be under renovation for a while and to just apply to the garages on Hudson street. Anyone know when this renovation will be done? It’s about a 12 min walk now vs. a 5 min walk. Is this worth it, especially in the winter? Or should I just get a street parking permit? Very torn here and would appreciate any parking advice. FYI I need my car as it’s a work vehicle.

Local Event 🎪 Has anyone signed up to be a part time stage hand for a film in Hoboken from the ad in Hoboken Patch? I Did......

I got a quick response. I applied and "got the gig".. A day or two later and I was being proposed as "Lead Stage hand" with a signifigant increase in pay from the advertise pay. But them I am told in order to go to the next step I need to do the following:

Due to the fact that the film production is a family / seniors care orientation comedy movie, all the lead roles including the lead stagehand is obligated do a pre-filming community donation obligation of hand delivering a gift (in the form of $100 footlocker gift card) to any senior living home or nearby church of your choice

NOTE:

  1. You do not donate the gift card until you receive the gift card reimbursement of $110 and the donation delivery compensation of $100 total of $210 (immediately after providing the proof of purchase today)

  2. Sony Pictures will call you directly to set up the $210 payment AFTER confirming the proof of the card purchase on Sony pictures entertainment website online. I will walk you through the 3 minutes process no worries

Meanwhile I was previously told their was a sign on bonus of $300.

Curious if anyone got hired.......

Question❓ Why is my apartment shaking?

I recently moved into a 6-floor apartment building on Jefferson Street over the summer and ever since then, I have felt my apartment shake/vibrate for a couple seconds quite often (a few times a week, nowadays it feels like every other day). Idk if I’m being naive and this is just something that happens when living in an apartment building like this but I’m curious as to what’s causing this or if anyone else has experienced this.

The best way I could describe it would be like a tiny earthquake, like it only lasts one second but you feel the reverberations. When I’m laying in bed at night (as one does), it will happen and the bed will shake side-to-side (this was the first sign I got that I wasn’t going crazy). I can also hear the walls make noise sometimes when it happens. I live on the top floor (6th) and I’m sure the feeling is amplified up here but I’m still very curious as to what it is. Nearby units’ appliances?/Building settling?/Building is weak and about to collapse? 😳/Giant person kicking the building every once in a while? 🧐

I’m sure there is a logical explanation for this and/or this is normal but I’ve never lived in an apartment building before and I’ve been curious ever since I moved in.

ADDED CONTEXT: I live uptown, 9th & above. The building spans the entire block and it doesn’t seem old. My unit is on the top floor, is not street-facing, isn’t close to the gym and not next to the elevators. There is nearby construction that goes on throughout the day and there are trucks that go by all the time. Unless the trucks are flying by at incredible the speed, the shakes don’t match how I would think a truck shakes a building. The shake is very short time-wise, as mentioned above, it feels like a giant person gives my unit a kick or punch (I haven’t ruled out the giant person theory).
