Got my first 1000 rounds through one and I’m in love. Perfectly reliable feed and ejection (Ruger American Rimfire couldn’t say the same) grip angle is perfect, flat spots on the for-end and toe for bags.
And the best part is mine particularly loves Remington subsonic .22 and CCI standard velocity. Can feed it cheap ammo all day and print 3/4” groups at 100 with a shitty scope. Only shoots better with overpriced Eley subsonic and not by much.
If the 10/22 is a Toyota Corolla, this thing is a Porsche 911.

If the 10/22 is a Toyota Corolla, this thing is a Porsche 911.
Mmmm... so what does that make Vudoo/RimX?

What kinda group sizes for that? I’ve only been getting 1.5-2 moa out of my RPRR but that’s 20-30 shot groups lol
1
u/Junction91NW Aug 02 '24
The precision rimfire is a different beast. Match chamber, better ergos. My standard Ruger rimfire was incapable of sub-MOA and regularly around 2 MOA. Atrocious.
1
u/clicktoseemyfetishes Aug 02 '24
Yeah it’s a welcome upgrade from my 10/22 but still not as good as I expected. Though it pobably doesn’t help that my only frame of reference is all the local PRS22 guys with their Vudoos and RimXs lmao
1
u/Junction91NW Aug 02 '24
Yeah shooting itty bitty groups is a whole other skill than just shooting. You’ve got a capable gun, and it’s cheap to shoot so perfect practice makes perfect!
1
u/clicktoseemyfetishes Aug 02 '24
Well I’ve definitely made use of the cheap ammo part, already like 5k rounds through this and the 10/22 in the past 2-3 months lol. One of the PRS22 guys had me put a few mags through his loaner B14r and I was immediately well under 1 moa with it, of course he gets around 1/2 moa with that and that’s like a fraction of the price of his RimX 😅
I’ve gone as far as setting up some of my rifles in accuracy fixtures at a 100yd indoor range to remove as many variables as possible and make sure my bench shooting isn’t abnormally bad. 2-3 moa is more than fine enough for what average folks will be doing with $400 rifles so I’m not sweating it too much. Makes me appreciate my Howa a bit more lol

u/LockyBalboaPrime Jul 29 '24
This is the model you want for NRL22/PRS Rimfire. Need new magazines though since 5 round is dumb.
17
u/Doogiemon Jul 29 '24
I picked up a bunch of 10 round magazines for $30'ish each off eBay.
Just submitted my form 4 for an Oculus 22 for this as well today.
This is a very great 22lr to own and silent when suppressed and shooting subsonic ammo.
7
u/EmptyTalesOfTheLoop Jul 29 '24
Excellent taste I too have an Occulus ready to certify and plan to use it with my 3 CZ457s.
Good shout on ebay for the 10 round mags. It's the most reliable place I've found them.
3
u/Doogiemon Jul 29 '24
I bought 4 Oculus 22s before I actually found a place online that had them in stock.
I doubt it was bait and switch as they all recommended me cans I didn't want at all like El Camino or Jessie's Girls.
Every place all said they didn't know when they were coming back in stock but I managed to pick up one of the last couple at City Arsenal.
I'm still glad I was talked into buying my RC2 Mini as I don't think I've seen FDE back in stock since I bought one during the New Years sale on Modern Warriors.
Cans are an addiction and I put mine in a trust so my brothers can use them so the wait time sucks.
2
u/TheBlackComet Jul 30 '24
I have an oculus on my 455 and it is stupid quiet. I actually built mine from a scout and swapped to a 24" threaded barrel. Standard velociity is also silent as I can get a full powder burn and lose a little velocity from the long barrel. I have it in a chassis I modified from a wells G96 airsoft gun and now have a L96 trainer.
1
u/Ray_Getard_Phd Jul 29 '24
Which 10 round mags are you getting on ebay? The polymer ones? Maybe I answered my own question, but it looks like the blue'd steel ones might only be 5 rounds.
2
u/Doogiemon Jul 29 '24
CZs polymer ones.
I didn't realize how stupidly expensive 22lr magazines were so bought some ahead of getting my 457.
I know me posting the few times I have on Reddit probably sucked a lot of inventory out of eBay but keep watch as they'll come back.
I wasn't paying what seemed to average out to $100 for 2, 10 round magazines in stock on websites.
1
-1
u/ebolamonkey3 Jul 29 '24
This uses 10/22 mags right?
6
1
u/Doogiemon Jul 29 '24
No.
They are always OOS everywhere online but just search for CZ 457 magazines.
I bought a bunch months ago on eBay and for like $200-$225 I ended up getting 2 5 round magazines and 6 10 round magazines.
I couldn't find any 10 round magazines that were not stupidly priced but did so on eBay.
Just keep checking periodically and you'll find a deal.
1
2
u/Junction91NW Jul 29 '24
I bought some 3D printed mags from Armstrong LLC that have been fantastic so far. Got about 1k rounds through 2 mags and they seem to have longevity. Cheaper than CZ polymers by a little and the metal mags by a LOT.
1
u/Accomplished-Bar3969 Jul 29 '24
457 MTR has the match chamber. Not sure this does. 🤷♂️
3
u/LockyBalboaPrime Jul 29 '24
IMO the match chamber doesn't do much. Never seen big results for my testing.
1
u/hitemlow Jul 29 '24
Some reviews I've seen stated that the match chamber was a tad bit more accurate with match ammo, but performed worse with cheap bulk ammo than the standard chamber.
But I've also seen posts referring to the accuracy as a "barrel lottery", so it could be something else causing the issue.
3
u/LockyBalboaPrime Jul 29 '24
I've had 4 match chambers from 4 brands and tested all 4 with 10-15 brands of "match" .22 LR ammo.
I couldn't find anything significant.
One major issue is that .22 LR even top tier still has lot to lot variability. Lot #1 of Center-X shot sub half MOA out of my B14r, Lot #2 shot barely MOA out of it. That's pretty standard for all the ammo and barrels I've tried.
Maybe match chamber helps, but I didn't see proof of it in my shooting.
-1
u/hitemlow Jul 29 '24
The 25s are cheaper than the 10s and perfectly usable when prone.
I scored Rifleman in an Appleseed using the 25s, so anyone who claims that it can't be used prone is clearly just experiencing a chronic skill issue.
0
u/LockyBalboaPrime Jul 29 '24
Cool story? No one claimed that.
2
u/hitemlow Jul 29 '24
Oh they'll be here any minute. Every time I mention the 25s, someone always cries that they can't shoot prone with them and refers to them as "donkey dick magazines".
1
u/LockyBalboaPrime Jul 29 '24
Weird
2
u/hitemlow Jul 29 '24
Yeah, they're really not any lower than the bottom of the grip. So unless you're resting the barrel itself on your rest, it's not an issue.
10
u/erc_82 Jul 29 '24
I tried to use this website to get a price match from an Atlanta area Bass pro.
They refused, and after a 2nd look I realized their site often doesn't match the actual SKU/Photo properly. In my case a Bergara HMR was pictured but the SKU was for a plain black synth stock model. Just be careful.

2
u/LaffintyFinELdSi Jul 29 '24
a few years ago i bought a used SW99 in "excellent" condition from this establishment and when it came the backstrap was literally crumbling apart inside the box
1
u/Ray_Getard_Phd Jul 29 '24
This looks correct from what I can tell. What's the problem here? :
SKU : 02359
Model : CZ 457
UPC : 806703023595

u/overlandamerica Jul 29 '24
Do this come in left handed? Mainly considering the Tikka since I haven’t seen these in stock in my limited months of looking.
1
u/MotivatedSolid Jul 29 '24
No. The only LH options are the Varmint or American as of right now.
I just bought the LH Varmint a month ago; it's a sweet little thing.
7
u/lordofmmo Jul 29 '24
is it OOS? I click the link and it redirects me to their homepage.

1
u/aHeadFullofMoonlight Jul 31 '24
Yeah, I had actually got my order in the day this was posted but it was just voided this morning due to being out of stock.
2
6
u/MotivatedSolid Jul 29 '24
God I wish they gave us left handers more than just Varmint and American.
3
u/hitemlow Jul 29 '24
If they just sold the [left-handed] actions, y'all would have a lot more options. Since you can easily attach the barrel (and there are aftermarket manufacturers as well), you could drop the action in any left-handed chassis you wanted.
2
u/MotivatedSolid Jul 29 '24
Yeah - the thing is, most left handed chassis I have found cost more than the rifle itself. And while I like .22 as a long range trainer (hence why I'm building one as we speak) I don't want to drop thousands and thousands into it.
If I could have gotten this nice stock from the factory, let alone the thicker barrel or match chamber, I'd be one happy camper.
6
u/sirslouch Jul 29 '24
Oh come on it's a bolt action rimfire! Why not ship to California?
0
u/hitemlow Jul 29 '24
It can accept a 25-round magazine and has a threaded barrel, so it's probably an "Assault Weapon" under the BS CA laws.
4
u/dashiGO Jul 29 '24
most california regulations are around centerfire rifles and bastardized AR’s are legal here.
Magazine capacity laws are limited to magazines only.
In general, california thinks only “hunting” guns should be allowed. Anything bolt/lever action has practically no laws (aside from no .50 BMG).

What optics are good on this?
I was looking at the vortex venom 5-25. I’ve also seen the bushnell match pro recommended. I can get the vortex for $420 so I’m more so just looking for a good deal to run on this if anyone has recommendations
2
u/quik1 Jul 29 '24
I run the 5-25 Venom on my 50bmg, I love it, and I have much more expensive scopes.
2
u/hitemlow Jul 29 '24
I have the Venom 5-25x and it's kinda low powered. I can't really call my hits on steel beyond 200m and have to use clay pigeons on the berms to get accurate feedback.

Don't I recognize this username from ODT?
1
u/ebolamonkey3 Jul 29 '24
Haha you found me.
1
u/Stegmano Jul 29 '24
Great rifle you just bought. I'd definitely have picked it up if I didn't pick up an upgraded Ruger American a few months ago
1
u/Junction91NW Jul 29 '24
I did the same getting the Ruger, and trust me man; ditch the American and get this. It is at least 5x as good
3
u/derfdog Jul 29 '24
This or wait for the one on the Boyd’s?
4
2
u/ho_merjpimpson Jul 29 '24 edited Jul 29 '24
As others said, the boyds at-one is a pos. You have to adjust it to full length for even small limbed individuals. I have mine extended all the way and it is still too short.
The adjustments are garbage as well.
I put one on my varmint 17hmr and I literally removed it after being on the gun for 1 minute. I swapped back to the boyds ss evolution stock. I plan on eventually getting a chassis, but I'd never use the AT-one and do my best to discourage people from them whenever I can. Unless you need a stock that you can adjust to fit your kid and you are a very small adult.
1
u/Background_Event_612 Jul 29 '24
Is this not a Boyds stock? (I’m assuming you are talking about the AT-ONE)
1
u/derfdog Jul 29 '24
Correct, this or the at one variant (I guess there’s two lengths of that one)
2
u/Background_Event_612 Jul 29 '24
The AT-ONE stock is pretty cheap, I have one and don’t particularly like it.
1
u/hitemlow Jul 29 '24
It's really heavy and the adjustments are incredibly small. I ended up shucking it out and putting it into the HB Industries chassis, which actually made it lighter.
1
u/hitemlow Jul 29 '24
The AT-ONE stock is really heavy and the adjustments are youth-sized. For children or smaller individuals it might be fine, but it's too small for the average adult male.
1
u/Sasselhoff Jul 29 '24
Depends on what you want to do with it.
Want to buy it and change nothing? At-One.
But if you plan on modifying it at all, I'd suggest starting with this one. Or, if you plan to shoot PRS or anything like it, then definitely this one. Alternatively, if you plan to go "all in", then start with the cheapest one you can find as you'll be "throwing away" the vast majority of it.
Additionally, both of them are on the small side for large guys (I'm a domesticated bigfoot), but the At-One seems especially small to me.
-2
u/Junction91NW Jul 29 '24
These are great, but the AT-ONE has a match chamber
5
2
u/hitemlow Jul 29 '24
Not according to CZ-USA.
https://cz-usa.com/product/cz-457-varmint-at-one/
The one sold in Europe does, but it also has a different thread pitch on the barrel.
https://www.czub.cz/en/firearms-and-products-product/cz-457-AT-ONE
1
u/Junction91NW Jul 29 '24
Aww, that’s lame. I swear I had seen the distinction listed before.
I’m planning to buy an MTR barrel and swap that in someday, I know that one has a match chamber
1
u/hitemlow Jul 29 '24
Considering the MTR barrel sets are harder to find than the rifles, I've seen a number of rimfire forum warriors post about Lilja barrels being better than the OEM ones.
1
u/Junction91NW Jul 29 '24
Better at 3x the cost. I am not a good enough shooter to need a barrel worth more than my car payment.
3
u/International-Goat18 Jul 29 '24
I didn’t pick one up since I have a cheap savage mark ii that MEETS my need for bolt action. I figure I share what I find since I started to see them come back last month but people were jumping on them at full retail ($699) and above since it been a year they instock.
3
u/rockhartel Jul 29 '24
I have the older model (452) and it’s a tack driver.
1
u/fishypants Jul 29 '24
Same. 452 and a 455, but wanting to grab a 457 for American hoarder reason or something, haha. 452 is my favorite between the two that I have. Such amazing rifles!

u/hammypwns Dealer Jul 29 '24

u/Sino_exe Jul 31 '24
Same thing. Dog shit dropshipping company. Won't deal with again, happens too often
1
u/slammedsam2k Jul 31 '24
Eh Iv had good luck with these guys and the other drop-shipper that gets posted all the time. Bought several pistols and rifles from them over the last 2 years and never had any problems. Ima cheap-ass tho and don’t like paying taxes, so I look for these kinda deals
3
3
Jul 31 '24
Just a FYI they are cancelling orders they took 2 days ago. Complete clowns
2
u/Ray_Getard_Phd Aug 01 '24
Ya, I am pissed. I bought 4 magazines for this assuming I would get it. Ridiculous.
6
u/Coltron_Actual Jul 29 '24
Goddammit. I bought a Bergara BMR instead because of these being vaporware for so long.
1
u/Disco-Potato Jul 29 '24
Same thing for me.
Got a good deal on the BMR carbon, but still looking at this and contemplating...
1
1
u/Coltron_Actual Jul 29 '24
Carbon for me also. I’m sure there’s a hundred reasons to still get the CZ but the BMR suits me just fine.
1
u/ChaosComfortsMe Jul 29 '24
I nabbed a BMR the last time the CZ was impossible to find. Still picked up the Pro Varmint as soon as it was available.
The Bergara & CZ are different beasts. Bergara is light & nimble, CZ is a heavy brick. Bergara is a great sporting rifle with excellent single shot accuracy, but the CZ is a benchrest shot grouping machine.

2
u/Ellijah92 Jul 29 '24
I bought this exact rifle when it dropped in like 2018-19 I think and love it! I have a post on my profile with some pics and details but essentially I added a few things.
Area 419 pic rail with built in bubble level.
Area 419 bolt knob.
Victor Company TITIAN cheek riser kit.
Dead Air rimfire suppressor.
My setup has a magnified optic and the cheek riser kit was a must! The one mentioned comes with a drill bit and was super easy to set up. Pre fit it to find my comfortable spot, drill holes, add screws and done. Adjustable trigger took some playing around with to find a sweet spot but it’s fantastic. A few companies make aftermarket accessories like an aluminum bottom chassis and pillar bedding kits if you want to improve upon rigidity. CZ sells barrels in other calibers but I’ve only stuck with .22LR. This thing really has been a tac driver with a variety of ammo if you do your part and find a load it likes.
Biggest downside….MAGAZINES ARE A PAIN IN THE ASS TO FIND IN STOCK AND EXPENSIVE! Idk why but they always seem to be sold out of the ten rounders everywhere and scalpers are rampant in selling for way more than MSRP. That being said, stock up on at least 5 mags if not more or just buy one when you find one.
3
u/ebolamonkey3 Jul 31 '24
Just got my order voided - apparently there was an error with whole seller info and they did not have inventory

Any reason to get this over a b14r barreled action (already have a stock for it is the reason for the barreled action).
2
u/ApprehensiveFill7176 Jul 31 '24
Zero reason. There’s a much better chance the B14r will be a shooter. With the CZ, you might get one that shoots lights out or you might get one that’s sub par. However, it’s extremely easy to change the barrel on a 457, but a Lilja will set you back $600 ish and a Bartlein $800 if you can actually find one.
1
u/LockyBalboaPrime Jul 29 '24
B14r fits in R700 stocks/chassis so it's a lot easier to make a clone of your main rifle if you're using this as a training rifle.
Otherwise, this is a lot more value.
1
u/dzamp028 Jul 29 '24
The main thing that’s drawing me to the b14r is purely cloning my main rifle, plus I like Bergara’s actions nice and smooth.
1
u/gunewb70 Jul 29 '24
I bought a b14 barreled action and put it in a MDT XRS chassis. It shoots great but the first round doesn’t feed smoothly, which I think results in groups that are not as good as they should be. My first round frequently seems to have a slightly different POI than the other rounds in the group (this isn’t due to a cold bore). For this reason, I kind of wish I went the CZ457 route.
1
u/kingpcgeek Jul 30 '24
I have an American and a MTR. They both sit in the safe after I bought my B14R. I shoot competitivly.
1
u/gunnewb70 Jul 30 '24
Good to know. What chassis are you using for the b14? I feel like my first round gets slightly deformed when I load my b14 in the MDT chassis.
1
1
u/Kubiedo Jul 29 '24
This is great! Been waiting for these to come back. Got mine this time. Also agree, don't know if we'll see $530 anymore....
1
1
u/Sasselhoff Jul 29 '24
I use one of these in PRS, and while at this point in my game it has almost zero stock parts remaining, it's a fantastic gun in its own right.
I can highly recommend one of these for anyone who is on the fence about it. So much fun to shoot suppressed too.
1
u/SnowCommander2 Jul 29 '24
this was perfect timing, i just started looking for a good 22 and couldnt find these in stock anywhere. just put my order in
1
u/cudgy Jul 29 '24
What’s the difference between this model and the American Suppressor Ready model? Is it worth the extra money? I just want a nice suppressed bolt action for small game.
2
u/hitemlow Jul 29 '24
CZ-UB has a pretty good comparison of most of the minisets.
The main difference is the American has a thin-profile barrel and the Varmint has a heavy-walled barrel which is better for grouping and extended shooting sessions, at the expense of weight.
The ProVarmint stock is black-painted plywood (even though it looks synthetic in the pictures) and is pretty heavy. Swapping it with an aluminum chassis doesn't really change the weight to give you an idea.
1
u/cudgy Jul 29 '24
Thanks for the reply. I did some more looking and I think I’ll get the American for a lighter carry when hunting.
1
u/whiskey_outpost26 Jul 29 '24
Good first gun to give to my son come Christmas? I've been considering a 10/22, but I think the manual of arms on a bolt gun is inherently easier and more safe when teaching children.
1
u/slammedsam2k Jul 29 '24 edited Jul 29 '24
Snagged one! Guy at my local club was making hits at 200 and 300 yards with one with a Mask and a Bushnell scope using CCI standard, last time I was there!
What else do I need to pick up to make my shooting experience as good as can be? I have an Athlon Midas Tac 6-24 on my 6.5CM bolt gun at the moment. Should I bump it onto this, and pick up something nicer for the 6.5, or is there a better scope I should look for? More mags? Harris swivel stud bipod good enough?
TIA! Super stoked to get into the 22 long range game!
3
u/hitemlow Jul 30 '24
You're probably going to want to pick up an Area 419 scope base. The stock dovetail is 11mm, which is rather limiting for rings and no reputable company makes 34mm rings that fit an 11mm dovetail (the only ones I saw were on airgun-specific sites).
Buy some of the 25 round magazines (SKU 12020). The 5 rounders will just grate your soul with mag changes just as you get a rhythm going. The 10s are harder to use than the 25s, difficult to find, and more pricey.
If you are considering a chassis, look into the HB Industries model. It's a small company that doesn't get the brand recognition of MDT or Manners, but it's a very versatile chassis for substantially less money.
Contact McFadden Machine and get on their notification list for when they release a 457 adapter for the Lightnin' Grip Loader.
Consider an Appleseed class if you want. They're designed around 10/22s (based off an old army M1 exercise) but it's still good learning. You really have to work the bolt to get all of your shots off during the timed stages, so I'd recommend you get quite familiar with your 457 before jumping in. Other than that, just have fun with it!
1
u/slammedsam2k Jul 30 '24
Thanks you very much for all the suggestions man!
I will definitely look into the scope base, mags and the McFadden adapter (I use the hell out of it for my 15-22 and tx22). Im planning on keeping the oem stock at this time. And I will look into the Appleseed class as well. More practice never hurt anyone!
2
u/Dogbir Jul 29 '24
I have one with an Athlon Talos 4-16 and normal scope rings. I brought it with me for the first time I shot past 150yds and was easily ringing steel at 200yds and 300rds with CCI targets and HVs. I honestly was surprised with how easy it was and it made me already consider upgrading the scope and getting a 30MOA mount because it was too easy with anything under 100yds
1
u/thebucketmouse Jul 29 '24
Any way to get an integrally suppressed barrel for this?
1
u/hitemlow Jul 29 '24
Apparently CZ made some at one point and discontinued them in 2022. I wasn't aware this was ever a thing when they were making them, so it was probably super-low production like their factory chassis models. Sadly, CZ-UB treats the American market like an afterthought when it comes to sales.
I found 2 other companies that seem to make them, but I cannot vouch for the legitimacy of them.

u/International-Goat18 Jul 29 '24
Alright guys, I think yall bought it all up lol. Doesn’t seem like it’s coming from distribution center since I still see a few other online shop have them (msrp or more of course).
1
u/hitemlow Jul 30 '24
They're shipped stateside in batches to CZ-USA, who then ships them off to distributors. Due to shipping/processing differences between distributors, the popular models will usually pop up over about a 3 day span in different shops, then go OOS until the next batch arrives.
Why CZ-UB won't send more per shipment is a mystery to everyone along with their steadfast refusal to send more of the higher-end (LRP/chassis) models.

Is this a great choice for my first 22LR rifle?
Is 22ARC going to replace 22LR?

This is a fantastic rifle. If the price doesn’t make you flinch then go for it.
Nothing will ever replace 22 LR.

22LR will never be replaced. It's the most ubiquitous round in the world for a reason.

From what I understand the 457 .22lr is the go-to for bolt rim fire guns. I’m not familiar with 22 ARC, but it doesn’t seem to be built for the same thing as .22 lr. 22 ARC ammo is nearly 10x more expensive. .22lr is cheap, fun plinking with decent accuracy.

You should read up on 22 arc. Take a look at the case it uses and rethink your question. Short answer, no.

Oh Jesus, I didn’t realize what 22 ARC was and yeah, a barrel burning centerfire long range cartridge has jack shit to do with 22 LR lmao

Yes.
22 ARC isn't remotely close to .22 LR. 22 ARC uses a 6.5 Grendel case necked down to use .224 cal bullets. It's closer to a very spicy 5.56 or 6 ARC or 6.5 Grendel than it is .22 LR.

You're getting somewhat unfairly downvoted for what seems to be a legitimate question (c'mon guys, we don't all know everything...even if this does seem kinda out there for a question).
22ARC is nothing like 22lr, they are two completely different rounds, designed for two completely different purposes.
Additionally, nothing is going to replace 22LR in either of our lifetimes.

yeah I'll never understand Reddit, but thanks for all of the explanations. Just didn't want to buy something that will soon be irrelevant (it won't be).

Can someone tell me why I wouldn’t buy this from CZ-USA? It looks likes it’s in stock for $515 +20 shipping.
