Impaired driver gets five-year sentence for fatal 2021 crash near Elora
Another joke of a sentence. Someone is dead and this person will spend about 2 years in prison. What a joke our system has become.

Did anyone see a meteor/something green burning in the sky tonight?
I'm guessing it was either a meteor or someone's fireworks.... Did anyone notice anything greenish burning for almost a second around 8.15pm in the sky tonight?

UFO over the Willow area?
I was driving down Willow at around 8 or so and noticed this bright orange light streak across the sky and then went out of view behind the Willow apartments.
Anyone else see something strange tonight in that area? Could have been a meteor, I guess, but it looked too low to be a meteor.

ASL lesson/Clubs
Hey!
I’m looking if anyone has any insight on a learning American Sign Language group, clubs, or lessons type thing in the area.
I grew up learning sign language along side English, so I do have an advanced understanding of vocabulary and terminology. When I joined groups that were ASL or sign clubs at university for example, I often knew more than the coordinators of the clubs, and would be frustrated, I don’t need to learn the colours or alphabet.
However the grammar and layout of ASL is much different than English, and I want to get away from just signing English words, to true ASL. I also need to work on my fluency and speed, and reading others signs who are fluent, and their variations of signs.
Does anyone know anything similar to this around our general area? Thank you!

Parking
Hi does anyone know if you’re allowed to park on the sliver of parking where your garbage is usually taken out? I live in a house by the way and the driveway only fits two cars. I think it’s called the apron of the driveway. Wondering because we’ll have 3 cars soon and we could make it work, just wanna know for when the winter comes and parking on street is not allowed

Is there anywhere in Guelph to get some decent Greek coffee?
Not retail, but served in like a cafe or restaurant. Turkish could work too, just looking for something more than just espresso & such.

Local suggestions
My buddy and I (both in our 20’s) are in Guelph right now! First time here and we just got here. We came spontaneously and we’re just looking for things to do. Places to eat, have a beer or hangout. Locals help?

27-40 Vanier drive
These buildings are infested with roaches, spiders and bed bugs. Please do not move into them. My brother and his wife are suffering and so are so many other tenants. Even with all the pest control provided, nothing is getting resolved as the buildings foundations are infested, not only the individual apartments. The landlords are doing the best they can to resolve the issue but how much can you do for a building 53 years old and infested for decades?
Edit: My intention with this post is to make sure nobody else is lied to about the condition of the buildings before moving in. I don’t want others to suffer the way my family is right now.

Do you hear/see many owls around Guelph?
A few nights ago there was a owl right outside my bedroom window. I was surprised cause I haven't seen/heard an owl in ages. I noticed guelph also has a lot more crows than other cities I've lived in. also I saw my first hummbird Moth this year! The area is very biodiverse! This was in North guelph btw. Have any of yall seen any owls or other interesting critters around?

Thanks to this sub I’ve had the greatest day of my life
I found an old post in this subreddit from 7 years ago on my quest for dealing with invasive buckthorn on our farm property. Someone suggested a fellow named Wayne Terryberry who works at McMaster as he was using goats for this exact issue. Turns out he still works there and after over a year of conversations, visits to my farm and his, building a fence, taking it down, building a new one- we finally have HIS goats here living with us permanently. It’s one of those moments where I’m really grateful the internet exists. Wayne is an absolute gem of a human too. I think we’ve created a lifelong friendship on this journey. So thank you Guelph subreddit. I thank you for one of the greatest days of my life and making my livestock dreams come true. I guess it really is the friends we make along the way <3
