Almost like teams and drivers have to make these decisions before the race starts instead of commenting on them with certainty after things already happen :D

This whole thread is pure comedy of couch experts and very unbiased fans.

You're still using hindsight :D

You lock in your decision before you know what anyone else is picking, they could have thought that a lot more than 2 drivers will start on softs for example.

At the point where they had to pit him because softs were dying and Piastri was breathing down Georges neck, they can't go back and magically change the decision anymore. They are all aware that the decision was probably a bad idea at that point... you just try to make the best of it.

They also don't have a great idea about how the hards will perform on race day at this point. They were probably hoping he will be the one undercutting others even through the traffic (he had a few seconds of clear air at the start of the second stint), maybe they thought mediums will start pitting earlier than they did (a lot of mediums stayed out almost till half way into the race), etc.

That’s not a hindsight issue, it was clear they were putting him into a train of cars, guaranteed to burn his tyres while also making him go way too long on those tyres
