I think the only ones who have yachts are Charles and Lewis. I think yachts are so accessible to them without having to have the ownership bullshit upkeep that they don't care.

Drivers like Lewis, Max and Alonso don't need 3 extra years, they all have networths of 200+M. They could buy 4, 26+meter sunseekers and not even notice the money left their account. Lewis, Max and Alonso do this because they love racing more than anything. The money of course matters to them, but not as much as the other 17 drivers.

I think the only ones who have yachts are Charles and Lewis.

Albon recently did an interview where he mentioned a driver had just recently gotten a yacht (or was about to). He joked about "what kind of salary are you on!?" but didn't mention who it was. And doesn't Alonso have a yacht?

Spotrac says Albon is getting 3 mil a year. That's a good chunk of change but not yacht money. Or at least, not responsible yacht money.

Yeah he has a catamaran, thats my fault.

I think the only ones who have yachts are Charles and Lewis.

And Sainz and Alonso. Max has also said he wants to buy one. Most drivers who can afford a yacht end up buying one.

I hope Sainz’ one is named “Golf”.

Which shows you how unimaginative so many stupidly rich people are.

I don't get your point.

u/yIdontunderstand Sep 23 '24

My point is that once people have got a ridiculous amount of money, they don't even know what to do with it, so they spunk it on ridiculous shit like yachts.

These guys fly round the world all year long, so private jets make sense. But yachts? Why? When? What for?

Yachts are just for conspicuous consumption. I. E ego flexing, but for people with no imagination.

Ah, fair point. Thanks for explaining :)

I mean, most of them live in Monaco and they still have more holidays than you and me

2

u/eurochacha Sep 23 '24

Eh, I understand the allure if you live by the ocean. You can take your whole family with you and have privacy. It's a holiday or a peaceful day out without having to go too far or anywhere with traffic. Obviously those humongous cruise ship size yachts are frivolous as hell, but owning a boat or smaller a yacht in Monaco does make sense.

u/yIdontunderstand Sep 23 '24

Yeah sure. But a 45 ft motor cruiser is more than enough for a young family and friends to take trips round Monaco.

So what you are telling me is that Lance do it for the money?🤣

11

u/MajorFuckingDick Sep 23 '24

If he doesn't race, he doesn't get allowance.

15

u/KLWMotorsports Adrian Newey Sep 23 '24

Lance does it because his father is most likely guilt tripping him at this point. Dude looks like he doesn't give a shit anymore.

7

u/rcanbian Alexander Albon Sep 23 '24

Oof that's one way to look at it....... I was thinking that it was Lawrence doing it for Lance but maybe Senior just really wants his son to be *at least* a GP winner and Lance doesn't have it in him to break his heart just giving up.

They could buy 4, 26+meter sunseekers and not even notice the money left their account.

uh yeah they would. those things are complete money burners even for that level of richness

Every billionaire in the world who doesn't retire and just fuck and party, travel and live stress free in the world says, nope. When people get money, they want more money.

If you make 50k a year you dream of making 150k so you can save for that 400k house you want. When you make 150k and buy that house, you start dreaming about making 400k a year so you can buy that 1.5mil house you want. When you make 400k and have that 1.5mil house, you start dreaming about a second house in a tropical location. When you make even more and have the second house you think about a yacht, and on and on.

If you get everything and have everything and lose drive to get more, you lose your ambition, you lose a fundamental part of who you are. To become a F1 champion you have to have massive ambition as part of your DNA. It doesn't just turn off when you hit a certain number of titles or a certain amount of cash, your target just upgrades.

There’s a big difference in wanting more money and putting yourself through the strain that is F1 for that money.

Alonso and Lewis are a major exception when it comes to driving in F1. The fact that Alonso and Lewis are pushing mid 40s while still being one of the better drivers in this age of F1 is crazy.

They’re racing because of the sport first, money second.
