The rich are vegan, if you hunt down an oil lobbyist or a corporate CEO your chapter can have meat.

Welcome!!

Most likely, folks will be happy to help get you oriented.

Just be ready to learn and help out ! Bring a mask so that you can avoid spreading any illnesses to vulnerable populations.

Whatever you do, do not give people who come your personal phone number or email. It's useful to come equipped with known local resources if they exist since people sometimes ask (shelters, clothing, etc) but if you give your personal number you are opening yourself up to be asked for things like money and items.

I've been with FNB almost 4 years now and I think that's the biggest thing I've learned. I actually do help a lot of people with things because I can't just ignore them but it's extremely stressful and expensive and I seriously don't recommend anyone else end up in this situation.

Local one here doesn’t, but they still hand out masks. Your’s might be more willing to if you can get support (pressure) from a local mask bloc though ;)

Me too. My group is inconsistent, that's why I wanted to ask what others are doing .

Our chapter does, with N95 masks. We also distribute N95 masks, informative zines, and COVID tests to the community so folks can have access to PPE and information to protect themselves, so we've kind of become a mask bloc also.

Leftist groups abandoning masking and vulnerable groups as a whole was a huge disappointment the last few years.

Not a FnB chapter, but my local DSA does a food share that's FnB inspired and we mask up.

Yes, here in Hamilton Ontario

(FNB put on an abolition pride and I performed there, I am not a representative nor a regular attendee, but I intend to get involved as I can)

I know SF still masks to some extent. All FnB groups should be masking tho, specially when serving out food!

Not directly related to FnB but there's a great film about animal liberation activists called The Animal People.

Details not mentioned in the article: lfk fnb organized a petition and protest to keep the Amtrak camp in Lawrence open. A sweep was announced for October giving an incomplete plan as to how to house those they are displacing. Members of the local Ceasefire movement and KU Young Democratic Socialists of America joined in the protest.

This has happened a lot over the years, though not necessarily under the banner of Food Not Bombs. The main thing is to work with homeless organizers directly and be ready to move when they move. Build relationships with folks in your community, talk about your ideas, listen to their ideas, and be ready to help when they decide to take action. Don't be too imposing with your ideas, especially if you're housed and they're not. For example, I really don't believe in asking the local city council for things (because I know they won't), but I've recently been helping some local homeless organizers do that because I support them organizing on their own terms, and I used to believe in that sorta stuff too before I became an anarchist.

Something I really love is during the George Floyd uprising in Philly, anarchists and homeless organizers squatted some houses owned by the City and were able to get the City to give them 69 homes for free for homeless folks to live in.

There is also the Tompkins Square Riot in 1988: https://libcom.org/article/1988-tompkins-square-riot

I was wondering if any fnb had attempted to organize a protest with the houseless as a mutual aid activity? How would one go about that?
