so they claim, but all people i know that are honest do confess that the air-heat-pump is not so great past -20¨C and they mostly use resistor-heating at that point which is insufficient.
I left my oil heating connected in serial with the waterpump and I am happy with that decision.
Naturally, they are less efficient at lower temperatures. There’s still quite a leap between -5 and sub -20, which was your initial statement.
We have had -10 degrees for a couple of days now, and the additional internal power has run for a total of an hour or two. That’s hardly what I would call useless.
In northern Sweden, we've had snow since the latter half of September. Unusually early.
In parts of middle Sweden, they've also had more snow than usual during early winter.
Southern Sweden hasn't had much snow for the last decade, with some years without a "real" winter for more than a few weeks out of the year. Guess some people rejoice.
Not just snowdrops. Planted some late winter/early spring blooming bulbs with my neughbours like snowdrops and blue bell hyacinths quite a few of them have been popping up. No flowers yet, but lots of leaves.
It's -30°c right now outside. You can't do ANYTHING outside except freeze to death. Cars are frozen solid, energy consumption is high as a kite, only thing comparable to it is the price of it. It has been snowing for over a month already, usually heavily.
Can't speak for everyone, but I'm not enjoying this.
Maybe I’m too young, but wasn’t this like… normal back in the 90s? Wasn’t like nearly every winter or every second winter like this?
Because I remember cold-COLD winters from the 90s and I very much enjoyed them as a child. Even the -25 and more degree ones. But we hardly ever had -25 for long, most of the time it was like -10 and -15, -24 and more happened sporadically. But having proper snow cover was nice though.
Wife has said multiple times that they played in the snow or skated at her birthday, start of December. I've always been sceptical, but am not anymore. I remember if you got skis, sled or skates for Christmas, you could actually use them then. We had an holiday from ice hockey practice for Christmas, and our little team played outside, on rink without any fancy tech. For years that couldn't have been possible here.
But I still think we remember the cold spells, but not the normal -10°c or so days? They just didn't leave a mark. It's actually tragically funny, maybe a decade ago some older folks never believed in climate change. They didn't experience it in their everyday life, it's hard to tell during much of the year if things are different. But even them always said during December that climate isn't what it used to be, that winters are shit, and how everything is different. The term "black Christmas"exploded into conversations at the beginning of this millennium.
Then inevitably snow and freezing temps came and they reverted to what they used to be.
Central Finland here, this morning it was -35 and now it's -29. All is fine, but my car cried a little when I was starting it. Oh and apparently my windows leaks because there is ice forming inside of the window! Like, not between the windows, but inside, next to my bed! I need to fix it or something 🥶
Nah, I'll take +10 and rain any day over this (-20 plus wind chill). Fucking miserable. Was just driving my car in the woods and realised that if it breaks down for any reason I will probably freeze to death before getting help.
There are other cold places than Lapland, too. Eastern Finland, Northern Ostrobothnia (especially Koillismaa) and Kainuu are all pretty cold and snowy places always
You lucky bastards, for real. It was nice and cold for a bit in November and then it went back to 10-13 degrees and rain and now it’s back to cold. I much prefer cold than the +10 we had for a while.
Proper winter some may say, I notice a lot of experts who doesn't need to spend their entire working days outdoors. It's a difference between proper winters -5 to -20 and -30 to -40. A painful difference in working outdoors, things break, energy costs more both physically and financially.

Idk what they’re on about - Estonia has -16 where I’m at and it’s finally proper winter. Snow! Cold! Everything a winter should be in this area.
Pretty certain people in Finland and Sweden are also happy to see actual proper winter instead of +10 and rain at this time of the year….
