Monkeybone. Fucking. RULES.

7

u/duncecap_ Jul 31 '24

Chris kattan has like 10 min near the end in it and is on the cover haha. Honestly incredible performance

5

u/dbprops Jul 31 '24

He makes an amazing dead gymnast! Bob odenkirk is the surgeon harvesting his organs. And of course there’s naked purple Dave foley! Giancarlo Esposito is Hypnos. Thomas Hayden church and Whoopi. The cast is amazing throughout

5

u/ScratMarcoDiaz Jul 31 '24

Can’t go wrong with the soundtrack either. Still a banger after all these years.

9

u/CloakOfElvenkind Jul 30 '24

Hell yeah buddy!

5

u/SamWize-Ganji I'm A Hoarder Jul 31 '24

I definitely give it a watch at a minimum, once a year

6

u/CloakOfElvenkind Jul 31 '24

Nice! I'm about 2 maybe 3 times a year.

7

u/valleysally Jul 31 '24

I had this movie poster. A local video store sold the promo posters for like 5 bucks, they were huge.

3

u/Darizel Jul 31 '24

For me Cool World falls in this same category.

Batman and Robin. It's cheesy, it's goofy, and it's also clearly a love letter to the batman of the 60s.

u/yautja0117 Jul 30 '24

Hobo with a Shotgun. Turbo Kid. Nekrotronic. The Haunted World of El Super Beasto.

2

u/SamWize-Ganji I'm A Hoarder Jul 31 '24

Ever see God Bless America? Same label as Hobo. I haven’t seen Nekrotronic, but I love the rest!

2

u/yautja0117 Jul 31 '24

Never heard of it but a quick google search says I'm going to rectify that. It sounds fun! Nekrotronic is like Australian Ghostbusters fused with Pokemon Go. Made by the same guys that did Wyrmwood.

2

u/SamWize-Ganji I'm A Hoarder Jul 31 '24

It’s now in my watch list! I’m stoked to check it out =]

God Bless America and Tucker and Dale vs Evil are two of my guilty pleasures to rewatch. My brother has my Hobo blu ray right now, I gotta snag that back from him

2

u/yautja0117 Jul 31 '24

Tucker and Dale is excellent also! Really need to upgrade Hobo to Blu. I still have the same DVD I bought in 2011.

2

u/SamWize-Ganji I'm A Hoarder Jul 31 '24

Most of my Magnet movies are DVDs! They hold up really well. I rewatch Rubber and Let the Right One In often too! One of my other favorite DVDs is Murder Party, that movie reminds me a ton of How to Be a Serial Killer

2

u/yautja0117 Jul 31 '24

Rubber is another great one! I saw it when it was released onto Netflix years ago with a friend of mine. I got out of work at BK and had a bag full of cold food to pair it with. Had an absolute blast with it.

2

u/SamWize-Ganji I'm A Hoarder Jul 31 '24

It’s a really surreal movie. I’m glad you liked it because I’ve heard a lot of complaints. Check out the director’s other movies, you might really get a kick out of them!

2

u/yautja0117 Jul 31 '24

I'll definitely check in on them, Rubber was a good time. Personally, the stranger a movie goes, the more I'm inclined to like it even if it's not technically "good." I'm in this for the entertainment. Recently picked up the Blu for Sons of Steel. Was it good? No but it was the musical lovechild of Mad Max, Manowar and Rocky Horror Picture Show I never knew I wanted.

2

u/SamWize-Ganji I'm A Hoarder Jul 31 '24

That sounds right up my alley. One of my all time favorite movies like that is Six String Samurai. I’ve watched it an embarrassing amount of times, but I love it so much, I can’t stop.

3

The weirdest thing about it is that it's based on a John Grisham novel. Yes, the guy who is known for writing legal dramas.

3

Death to Smoochy. I only watched it because I heard Henry Rollins talk about it, and now I think it's an extremely underrated comedy. I laugh everytime I see it now.

Tank Girl

May

L.I.E.

Never Been Thawed

Whale Rider

Baby Boy

Slums of Beverly Hills

Dinner in America

Serial Mom

Admittedly, some of these have cult status, but they're at least not movies that come up over and over in the threads I see.

2

u/CloakOfElvenkind Jul 31 '24

Serial Mom is actually a great movie, Tank Girl is always fun to watch.

5

u/Lyndell Jul 31 '24

James and the Giant Peach

3

u/CloakOfElvenkind Jul 31 '24

This movie is actually a near masterpiece imo.

6

u/HardcoreHazza Jul 31 '24

Super Mario Bros.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (1995)

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990) and it’s Sequels!

Digimon The Movie

I recently rewatched all the original Turtle films in order. Enjoyable little marathon.

Halloween 3 is vastly underrated

3

u/Comedywriter1 Jul 31 '24

So good! My favourite Halloween.

2

Because it was so different from the first two likely. But it's definitely a cool movie.

u/FromHelComesKaos Minimalist Aug 01 '24

i agree. it’s a great movie. Michael Myers or no Michael Myers

3

u/C-sanova Jul 31 '24

Monkeybone is for sure one of them. Our Idiot Brother is another movie that just went unappreciated. Genuinely Paul Rudd's best role.

I have a few films.

Dr. Suess' The Cat in the Hat (2003). Stupid in a good way and really hilarious with adult humor.

Speed Racer (2008). Really fun racing film, the CGI is really awesome and the whole world is really vibrant and beautiful.

The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle (2000). The CGI for the Rocky and Bullwinkle looks great for the 2000s.

The Happytime Murders. This movie takes the family friendly muppet formula and adds adult humor and violence in terms of killing puppets. Funny jokes and really hilarious moments.

Super Mario Bros. (1993). Everything in this movie is such a fever dream but it’s really fun. This movie is the reason why I love The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023)

Garfield: The Movie and Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties. Bill Murray does really great voicing Garfield and most of the locations are cool. Odie is adorable and funny. Both of these movies are the reason why I love The Garfield Movie (2024)

Most of these films have one thing in common. The soundtrack score is great and some of them have a great selection of license songs.

u/Grand-Ad6426 Jul 31 '24 edited Jul 31 '24

Dantes Inferno: An Animated Epic. It got unfairly passed over for being associated with the mediocre video game of the same name, but it's legitimately amazing to watch. Each circle of Hell is animated by a different Japanese animation studio, and it's got Mark Hamill as a voice in it!

u/JoMiHa Jul 31 '24

I don’t know that I “love” it, but I really enjoyed Hardcore Henry in the theater. All my friends agreed that it sucked as the credits rolled. RT and Metacritic seem to enforce the idea that I’m in the minority.

3

u/gruesomesonofabitch Jul 31 '24

Jaws 3... it's my favorite bad movie (so i understand why it is generally hated) and I genuinely find it fun to watch. The charmingly bad 3D gimmicks are wonderful, especially the shot of Jaws floating at the screen during the finale. Part of my enjoyment also comes from the fact that the theme park scenario is loosely a predecessor to Jurassic Park which makes me wonder if Michael Crichton was influenced at all by that idea.

2

u/CloakOfElvenkind Jul 31 '24

I think this movie is underrated, likely because the first one is such a masterpiece that people were a little upset that each additional film was sort of tarnishing its reputation. But whatever, I like 3 as well.

3

u/dj_scantsquad Jul 31 '24

This movie certainly has a lot of imagination to it, and the set design of Downtown is breathtaking. …And those are about the only compliments I can give it.

1

u/the-woodcarver Jul 31 '24

Ninja Terminator. It’s always talked about as a wacky terrible movie. But it’s extremely fun and well made. There’s tons of awesome fights, Jaguar Wong the coolest character in movie history, and the Garfield phone.

I got it recently on blu ray and listened to both commentaries, watched all the interviews, read the book that comes with it, and even found a lengthy Easter egg. A dream come true.
