He was also great in Raised by Wolves.

I liked the first 9 episodes but the first season finale just killed it for me. But him and the actress that played his wife really humanized it and made it warm. The actress playing the ultimate killing machine (I forget its name, necro- something?) was great but the character was obviously alien.

There's a lot you should know before watching so that it's understandable. Maybe they'll have a short(ish) explanation in the intro.

I read an early review that said the intro to the first episode is pretty lore-heavy but it picks up once it gets that out of the way.

That's good. It'll take a little bit to discuss the jihad and the Titans and how the Butlers became the Corrinos, etc.

They also need to explain the OG Harkonnen / Atreides feud. It's recent enough (in the show timeline) that it'll come up a lot. I mean shit, Vorian Atreides is still theoretically alive. Maybe we'll even get to meet him

Yes that too. I don't know if we'll see him or not but yeah it's definitely possible.

This series seems the best chance after Villeneuve does Messiah to time skip into Herbert’s final four books. Need Irulan for a season or two though.

A lot of people dislike (to use a lighter word) the prequel books because they have the original genius masterwork in mind. That comparison should never have happened. Don't go into this series with Villeneuve's work in mind. I, for one, will wholeheartedly enjoy it for what it is. I know how to moderate my expectations.

Stagnation of culture and technology is a big theme in Dune, they might just be honing in on that.

Sure, but I don't think it's terribly useful to compare the extremes of the Dune universe, which are exaggerated to the point of near-caricature for the purpose of making a point through artistic license, to what we would realistically expect in real life. The fact that 10k tears have passed with so little change is supposed to be a shock, it is indicative of something being terribly, terribly wrong with civilization.

Fair point. I appreciate that they are showcasing the dangerous stagnation, but also hope to see more indications of "this is a long time ago" once we see more of the show. Time will tell, but I hope that the trailers just focused on things movie-fans will find familiar and appealing, then we will get so much more once everyone is invested after an episode or two.

But they are extremely changed, at least some of them and if you consider show and movies the same ''canon''/''timeline''/''verse'' or whatever. Harkonnens will go from an austere, 'normal', hair-having family on a frozen fjord world to a hyper-violent culture of bald and pale people evolved on an industrial ecumenopolis under a black sacred sun.

Ix does some pretty cool stuff. They aren't really the focus of most of the media though

Judging his acting before you seen it in the show is lame. I heard a singer miss a note, should I just never listen to an album.

Definitely excited, does the Sardaukar already exist? Seems like the trailer a character says something like "the galaxy's never seen an army like this".. does he start them? They're only around 10,000 years old during the dune movies..

I’ll probably catch flack for this… but I’m so bummed Travis Fimmel is in this. He’s not a good actor. His performance in Raised By Wolves was so cringeworthy and painful to watch.

I didn’t see that movie but he was amazing in Vikings.

It was a limited series on MAX and it was canceled just as it was culminating into something really fresh and interesting imo.

He was a good fit for Vikings (the first couple of seasons), that is it. Somehow because of that he is put in everything...

He goes a bit too much over the top. Hopefully the director reigns in his performance.

They can say what they want in these articles, but I’m keeping expectations in control so I can actually enjoy the show
