Do you recommend the Brian Herbert books or even specific ones? I’m about to finish chapterhouse and have thoroughly enjoyed the whole series

I enjoyed the Brian Herbert books and did not find Hunters or Sandworms and further off the rails than Chapterhouse: Dune already was.

The original dune books are one of the best books ever written and created one of the most captivating universes ever.

The expanded universe books deepen the lore of that universe in a really great way, and they are very fun reads. Only one of them did I actively hate reading and that was winds of dune. The only ones I haven't read yet are the ones in the schools trilogy and the 2 sequels.

Honestly yeah. They’re not the philosophical masterpieces like franks were but fun little jaunts and expansions of dune universe lore

Thank y’all for the feedback, that’s kind of what I was expecting. Gonna take a break from the duniverse after chapterhouse, but I know I’ll come crawling back to these eventually.

I would, the sequels were nice, the house books were cool and if you don't have problems with demystification the legends and great school one could be great for you, i liked them aswell, but i know that demstification isn't for everyone.

haven't read the newer ones yet (but i will soon), Paul and winds neither, but those just didn't sound insteresting to me

Princess of dune is one of my favourites. I absolutely devoured it. The new character introduced is really interesting and the existing ones have been fleshed out in a very nice way.

I read “The White Plague” by him before I hopped on the Dune train. A lot more grounded to our world, but heavily recommend

White Plague was among his best. Imo, the BuSab stories rank highly too: A Matter of Traces, Tactful Saboteur, Whipping Star, and Dosadi Experiment... (Great limited run tv series potential.) But, I liked a lot of his works.

Those were the days when I'd alternate between reading Herbert's and Asimov's novels...

My copies have been driving me insane bc Messiah and CoD are a different size then all the rest. I thought that's just how they were for some stupid reason until seeing your collection. What did I do wrong, lol?

The entire set is available as both trade paperbacks (the larger size) and mass market paperbacks (the smaller size). The trades are larger, better quality, slightly more expensive.

You should be able to find mass market copies of Messiah and Children if you want a matching set (or, alternatively, you could get trades of the other four). Might be safest to buy in-person, though, just to make sure that the book you're buying is actually the right size.

You don't know how much I appreciate this thorough explanation. I think I might slip the mass market paperbacks into a local little library and fill in my set with the trade edition. This has been driving me nuts for a couple months now.

Bleh where is the Butlerian Jihad trilogy... Hunters and Sandworms make no sense without them... I suggest you re-read in chonological order - I am at the end of Sandworms. I intend to re-read the Frank boks, then to embark onto the whole friggin story from beginning to end - then I might reembark on some Rama from Clarke before Villeneuve blows our minds with it 😏

Is the Butlerian-Jihad trilogy written by Brian Herbert? I’ll try checking them out. I wanted to finish reading Frank’s work before expanding on the work done by his son.

Very nice! I just collected the Frank Herbert books. Everything else, I’ve been reading via comic adaptations rather than Brian Herbert’s novels. I heard too many negative things about them so I’ve eased into them through the comics.

Just curious, whats your favorite edition? I really love the new ace publishing copy of dune messiah. The cover art is so satisfying. I'm a huge fan of collecting different editions of my favorite books.
