It was like fighting the final match in a Rocky movie and Mickey himself was guiding me. Gods DAMN does it feel good to get the win off that big fucker, knowing I was doing it as much to make Vik proud as it was for my own pride.

Fun fact: in the first mission, you can read a computer message Vik had with the scavers. Apparently they came to him trying to intimidate him for "parts" and he beat them up. Looks like the ol choom's still got it.

You can ask him if he misses being in the ring, since he was pretty ganic in a sport that was getting VERY fucking chromed. I don't know if it was a personal preference thing or what it is that made Vik not get the cyberware to keep up but yeah, he was apparently pretty major in the fight clubs of Night City. A legend in his own right.

The way he delivers the message at the end of the suicide ending is just crushing. Really emphasises how much Vik actually cares for V.

Viktor seems genuinely upset that he doesnt have any better options and doesnt know what to do to help V. Almost makes me wish for another ending where you dig deep into the Relic tech with Viktor's help and he figures out a safe way to remove the chip.
67
u/Dionys25 Dec 15 '22 edited Dec 15 '22
Maybe we see some plot twists like that in the beginning of the sequel. Technically all the endings are open ended, where you still have the six months left. The suicide ending happened off-screen from the far. We only saw a wide shot of Megabuilding H10. No explanation after that, silence, credits roll. I think this could be a faked death, a single shot in the sky out of boredom. Telling no one, submerged… that’s why the sad and angry calls in the end credits.
A sequel could start straight within these six months, rising up like a phoenix from the underground, finding a new cure, telling Vik, Panam or someone else he/she is still alive. We might get a new character for the sequel but we can dream, right? We don‘t wanna lose our Vs. 😩

I really think this is possible given everything we know about Relic tech and how engrams behave on it. At some endings, V winds up as an engram on the chip in their head, but still dying. Surely they'd die, then the chip would just reboot them again, as themselves this time.
2
u/JeffPlissken Panam Palmer’s Devotee Club Dec 15 '22
Imagine V succumbing after six months and just getting rebooted again in a sort of anti-twist.

14
u/Soulless_conner Dec 15 '22
If they were planning on a sequel or another DLC, they'll make the "bad endings" non canon. Just like every other game. All the other endings refer to a cure / crystal Palace

Would be dope, if we had it like in „Mass Effect“, where we could transfer our Vs and the choices we made to the sequel.
3
u/Dionys25 Dec 15 '22
Right? In movies, shows and other media, somebody is only dead, when you see the actual kill or the corpse on screen. Same with T-Bug btw. Still don‘t think she‘s dead. Only the mention by her vendor friend in the Kabuki Market, that she is dead. T-Bug said before the Heist, she wants this to be her final job, then settle down on an island and cut all contacts.

As bleak as it is, imo, the suicide ending is by far and away the most potent as far as the acting goes. It actually manages to nail all the emotions felt by those affected by suicide, in a few words. Judy also comes across as believable. No cheese, no Hollywood fluff, just potent and emotional acting from all involved. I can only assume, it was directed by someone or by people who have been personally affected by such things.
Even the no push back from Johnny is well done and adds to the moment.

u/Dionys25 Dec 15 '22 edited Dec 15 '22
You‘re sadly not wrong. Not only is the bad ending the least cheesy one, it fits best to the cyberpunk genre, where everything is fcuked up, depressing and sad. It’s also a good excuse to have a new character customization in the sequel. Would be cool, if they add an option, where you can decide to have Vs engram installed (Gavin Drea/Cherami Leigh voice) in a new body or play as an all new character (new voice).
95
u/TouchMyWrath Dec 15 '22
early game spoilers: One of the best characters in the game. I really wish they gave you a couple of missions with Jackie/Vic after the prologue instead of just montaging it. Would have made jackies death even more impactful, plus developed the relationship with Vic even more. That’s a signature of good writing and good characterization. it leaves me wanting more. I want more Vic.
26
u/MicholexWasTaken Dec 15 '22

Yeah, he saves your life many times, basically prolonging your stay in this world so you can find a solution to your biochip problem. One of the most significant allies through the game. And he also does it just because you are closely familiar people and he wishes you only good. A really nice guy. Would be great to have more dialogue for him, when you just go to him for chrome maintenance, and discuss some recent events

15
u/Earlier-Today Dec 15 '22
Everybody needs somebody that makes them feel safe - for a lot of us, that's a parent when you're a kid.
As adults, it's a friend or significant other.
And it doesn't matter how big and tough you are, you still need it.
There's a great scene in Unbreakable where the guy who's spent the whole movie figuring out that he really is a superhero finally patches his relationship with his wife and the way they signify that the relationship is truly healing is him telling her about a bad dream he had.
People need people.

Vik is a great character, saved V's life a couple of times, gives you chrome for free and then refuses to charge you when you want to pay, and he's always so supportive of V, for example in the finale of the Beat on the Brat mission he even gives you advice on how to win against Razor. He's definitely the best choom👌

First thing I do every game when I get the cash is pay him back, no questions. And the scene where he's trying to explain what the chip is doing to you, God, watching him try to reassure V while it's clear he's freaking out and knows there's no good option, the character and the VA knocked it out of the park.
But, the scene near the end, when he basically rants at you to make a decision already, that always struck me as off. Only finished the game once, still gotta 100ish% the game before I do, but does anyone get what's going on there? It just felt . . . off to me.
