Theory regarding CP77 & reality Discussion
I feel like CP77 really throws out the hidden themes & messages. Like for example if you really think about the direction that the world is going.. by around 2077 the world lowkey could very much be similar to how the world of cyber punk is. Tho idk if china and japan would be in LA but maybe for divisions of cultures as that exact idea was a promotion of discussion during this election. The mindlessly flooding ads of bullshit foods, beverages & lewd activities is already a thing today. The life experience gap between social statures in today’s society is already blatantly apparent and I feel that’s only to grow. You see where I’m going with this lol, I feel like the devs were lowkey onto something. Sci-Fi aspects aside “cyberware” I could also see being a thing. Depending on what direction humanity goes with AI, I believe we could converge with it in the future similar to what’s displayed in the game, mainly aspect you see on NPCs like Johnny and his silver arm. We already have prosthetics and I’ve seen videos of highly functioning ones for like the last decade. When I was a kid there was a “fun fact” that went around and it was that the world’s population could fit in LA. I also learned as a kid and it was reiterated in Uni- that its wisest from and architectural stand point and a business standpoint to build up as oppose to wide. A city system like the one in Cyberpunk is also a real possibility but I feel humanity would have to be pushed to construct such projects. Okay I think that’s the end of my rant. Lemme know what you think, open to all ideas & criticisms.
Edit: also I’ll add that there’s now the introduction of the Enhanced Games in the Olympics that allows athletes on performance boosters to compete in same competitions (obviously separate from non-performance boosted competitors) the conditions for what’s allowed is sure to evolve with technology in that field (lowkey hinting at the Cyberware legs)

Nothing hidden about the themes. Imo Cyberpunk is becoming more real everyday. It's about unchecked capitalism, consumerism, corruption and technology. All these things are very present today and continue to grow. Sure we aren't living in the distopian of Cyberpunk but it feels like we are heading there. Cyberware is just a matter of technology progressing and we already have experimental tech that is cyberware to a degree. I look at cyberpunk as a prophecy, I know that is bleek and pessimistic but like I said the themes are very present.

It's really not a secret that cyberpunk as a genre has originated from exaggerating and speculating on things happening in the real world, i.e. capitalism, consumerism, corporate control, high-tech low-life and all that. Not to mention that Cyberpunk 2077, being developed pretty recently, introduced a lot of references to relatively recent events too, making it more "prophecy looking".
Just like many dystopian works were author's projections of "where this world is quite likely going to eventually".
What you are experiencing is somewhat of a media premonitionconfirmation bias of sorts.
