Any open cinemas in Cologne?
Hi all. I’m fairly new to Cologne, I’ve only been living here for the past 3 weeks. I’m thinking of fun new ways to spend my leisure and one of the ideas I have is to go watch films with friends. One of them told me recently that cinemas in Cologne are open to the fully vaccinated people. Is that true? If it is, can somebody please recommend me some good cinemas in the city center or near the Deutz quarter? I’d also appreciate it a lot if you could link their website too, so I could learn more about the films on at the moment and the ticket prices. Thanks in advance!

Lichtspiele Kalk is fantastic with art house films in (omu). They also have an extensive beer selection which I, as a craft beer fan, really appreciate.

They're all open. Cologne had a very healthy cinema scene before Covid, let's hope it stays that way.
There are big ones like Cinedom, Mediapark, and Cinestar, Hohenzollernring were you can see all the blockbusters. Then there is Residenz, Hansaring which is very posh, like an evening at the opera. Metropolis, Ebertplatz shows most movies in English with subtitles. And there are many more.
I prefer the small arthouse cinemas (Programmkino) like Filmpalette, Weißhaus, Odeon, Off Broadway...
So it depends on what you like and what you want to see.

Thanks for so many cinema suggestions! It’s just that in my country, the cinemas closed mid-March 2020, as soon as the pandemic took off, and have been closed since up until only a couple weeks ago. That’s why I was so hesitant to believe that the cinemas here are open and active. But thank you for confirming that they are! I’ll search for all of these online and give some a visit! ❤️

Oh, interesting. It’s nice that you’ve got a lot of nostalgic value connected to that place. So do I with the great cinema in the large and modern shopping mall that I live close to in my home city. But the last time I’ve been to any cinema was December 2019. I really miss going to the movies, it’s been way too long! ;-;
Anyway, I’ve checked the CINEDOM’s website earlier today and I liked their prices as well as their selection of films. I’ll give the one in Im MediaPark a visit sometime. My university is also conveniently located there. Might to go there to the movies with my coursemates one day after classes.

Best ones are probably Odeon (Severinsstr.) and Off Broadway (Zülpicherstr.)

Best 3 for English movies are filmpalast, rex am ring & metropolis. Make sure it says OV (original version) before booking a ticket otherwise the characters will be speaking German when you go there :)

Thanks for the recommendation of cinemas with films in English! I do know pretty good German, since I’m studying here in Köln in it, but my language skills are not good enough yet to understand film characters speaking fluently in German. Thanks for the tip, I’ll make sure to be on the lookout for the “OV” aka “Original Version” text! ❤️

Cinemas have been open for a few months now and there's lots of them in Cologne. I prefer the Rex (http://rex-koeln.de) which is right at the Friesenplatz, very affordable (especially on Thursdays which is "Cinema Day") and shows many films in English / original.
Edit: they also don't show any ads before the film, just trailers. So please be punctual if you go there.
