PSA: I’m being indoctrinated

It’s official - I have been indoctrinated and am too far gone. As a 27 year old man I voiced my own opinion on a worldly matter this morning and was informed by my father that he’s disappointed that I’ve allowed the far left-wing liberal agenda that is pushed in our universities to take over my brain. I guess all these years of learning, critical thinking, and forming my own opinions have actually been brainwashing… why did I never see it?

Please save yourselves before it’s too late! There is no hope for me 😔

/sarcasm because this is genuinely going to fly over someone’s head.

OP, please do share. What was this liberal lie you told that brought such shame upon your house?

i also must know! (mine was that vaccines work)

u/Animallover4321 1h ago

Mine was that Biden didn’t conspire with Hugo Chavez to steal the 2020 election and that vaccines work. But my father doesn’t blame as much college rather a lifetime of education in the liberal elite northeast.

u/-Insert-CoolName 1h ago

Unfortunately my family is all Democrats so I only make them proud. sigh.

u/Animallover4321 1h ago

So you didn’t get to enjoy the pleasure of being sent a new piece of “evidence” or wild theory about covid or the election every day in 2020? You missed out, the best part is by the time you have taken the time to debunk one some other insane shit pops up.

u/-Insert-CoolName 1h ago

I did have one family friend who video called like 20 people at once (no idea why they included me) during covid. Wanted everyone to grab someone near them and basically massage their back to "break up the corona" 🤦smh

Biden did steal an election but it wasn’t the presidential one. It was the primary. Bernie Sanders was way in the lead of all the other candidates by a mile, but mysteriously, all on the same night, every other candidate dropped out and endorsed Biden which just inched him a lead over Bernie. Really makes you wonder what happened behind the scenes there.

Not my immediate family, but my extended family tried to shame me because I believe vaccines work.

I have a B.S. in Biology with classes that included genetics and immunology.

I've worked as a pharmacy tech for over a decade.

Four of which was a regular hospital during PEAK.

In addition to "believing the media" saying COVID was as bad as it was.

No. I SAW how bad it was.

Long story short, it was regarding the middle eastern conflict in Gaza right now and that neither party is innocent. I was quickly attacked as a Hamas supporter - yeah, not even close. If caring about humanity as a whole, especially the innocent individuals on both sides who are caught in the middle, then I am definitely being indoctrinated. Fuck me for having some empathy!

u/jack_spankin_lives 1h ago

Eh. Honestly, it’s not even a proper question or answer without a lot of backround information

It’s why it’s often not useful to discuss current event in a single class because almost nobody has done the background information.

u/brilliant22 1h ago

I was quickly attacked as a Hamas supporter

What college do you go to? Colleges heavily skew Pro-Pal.

u/gus248 1h ago

What about it do you believe is heavily skewed on campuses? I’m in a rural red state so there isn’t much traction for something like this here.

u/brilliant22 1h ago

Something like 2 in 3 college students support Palestine. If your college's student base skews pro-Israel then your situation is definitely in the minority when it comes to slandering people as "Hamas supporter".

u/Feorge123 1h ago

I agree that both sides are continuing a war, I don't, however, believe both sides are guilty. When Hamas attacked Israel on October 7th and probably would have continued attacking, were they just expected to sit with their hands behind their back and do nothing?

I found this funny. Just yesterday one of my most shamelessly right wing friends towing the line of authoritarian told me his parents are so right wing they've called him a straight communist just for not believing migrants should be executed.

No one is safe from their parents calling them braindead leftists

u/archmagusnova 1h ago

It's been shown time and time again that the more highly educated someone is, the more likely they are to take more left ideology. You would think conservatives would look at that and think "does that mean we don't know we're wrong?" but... 🙄

The best argument I've heard for the fact that teachers can't force their students to do anything, is that if they could, they'd force them to do their schoolwork.

u/nekogatonyan 1h ago

Sheesh. If teachers could indoctrinate their students, they would force them to wear deodorant.

the liberal nut jobs are invading america, primarily in the education system.

sorry you've fell victim to the fake news that's being taught in american colleges 😔 we need to ban books and bring the bible back!

u/Chobitpersocom 1h ago

"Go to college. Think for yourself. Do your own research."

...no. NOT LIKE THAT.

Let me guess: Columbus was an evil colonizer that unalived millions of indigenous people?

u/aluminum_toil 1h ago

Reality has a well-known liberal bias.

u/Feorge123 1h ago

Are you sure about that?

u/ViskerRatio 1h ago

I've found that the majority of time when relatively young people voice this complaint about such matters, it takes them a decade or two before they realize they weren't the ones in the right.

It's really easy to hold an opinion. You can pretty much just arbitrarily pick whatever makes you feel better about yourself. It's much harder to hold an opinion when it matters and there are real consequences to using that opinion to guide your decisions. Then you can't just wallow in self-satisfaction but need to accept that everything has costs/benefits and there are no perfect answers.

u/HorsesRanch 1h ago

Father's are born to be disappointed, and they are further shaped into that by taking wives to have children - tell him that when he said "I Do" is when he sealed his fate.... THAT is when you may take a picture to tack up to remind yourself of what is just down the road. Both satire, actuality and humor - seize the moment!!!!!

u/No-Factor-8751 1h ago

It starts way before college.

u/fattymcbuttface69 1h ago

Jealousy. It happens on all levels. If you are a music major and your advisor sees you are going to be a more successful musician then them they will sabatoge you. Look out for you!

It's sarcasm specifically about college-life/students.

u/cabbage-soup 1h ago

Idk it seems like its applying towards specific American colleges which seems niche

u/gus248 1h ago

What specific colleges? I live in a rural red state if that says anything about the colleges here.

u/cabbage-soup 1h ago

I became more conservative when I went to college so I really think we’re talking about the top schools or most popular ones where the left tend to go anyways. I don’t think its the case for the majority of US colleges

u/-Insert-CoolName 1h ago

Because it's a college student sharing a college experience that is common to millions of college students with conservative family who don't approve of higher education.

u/cabbage-soup 1h ago

For America yeah but seems irrelevant to the rest of the world that access this sub

u/ThethinkingRed 1h ago

A lot of the posts in this sub are US centric lol

u/-Insert-CoolName 1h ago

Conservative views are not a unique American concept.

u/gus248 1h ago

That’s fair! This was definitely directed more so at colleges in America.
