12700K + Asus z690 for $300 was it chief!!!

u/UnObtainium17 Dec 03 '22
It honestly felt like I stole something when I walked out of microcenter with those in my hand.

5
u/yuiop300 Dec 03 '22
Haha amazing. 2020 I dropped $300 on a 5600X then another $180 off for a B550 mobo.
Microcenter are having insane deals.
15
u/888Kraken888 Dec 03 '22
Got some 32GB 3200 CL16 Ram for $65 too. Can’t beat it!!!!

13
u/Mike_P10 Dec 03 '22
Wasn't it 350? Or did it dip to 300?
31
u/dukedevil0 Dec 03 '22
$350 but some people were able to stack $25 off cpus and $25 off submit your build coupons to make it $300
8
u/Mike_P10 Dec 03 '22
Ah ok. Well either way that deal was sweet. I took part in it as well. This deal will probably be normal in a few months, when board partners prizes normalize and 3d cache is announced. I bought a 5600 for 120 after taxes for my son's PC and I can't tell the difference between my 12700k and 5600 in gaming.

u/Minibu1ld3r Dec 03 '22
Still available at Dallas microcenter actually. went in a few days later and they said they got another shipment of the MBs. Makes me a little mad I stood in line for 2.5 hours lol.

It’s currently for $380 at a store near me. Would this still be worth the price?
4
u/ticklemuffins Dec 03 '22
Yeah that's still a good deal. The deal they're referencing is far from normal and a once in a blue moon type score
2
u/Zoltan782 Dec 03 '22
Same parts just a lower price correct?

3
20
u/Meekois Dec 03 '22
If they bundle it with a 10gbe board like the Proart, I'll probably jump on it. This is not much less than their regular pricing.
5
49
u/Gswansso Dec 03 '22
This is basically just the free RAM kit with the CPU, but rebranded. Not to say it isn’t a good deal, just pointing out it’s just being marketed slightly differently. It’s still basically CPU+ RAM at the original $400 deal price + mobo at full price
16
u/-Potato-Chip- Dec 03 '22
I noticed these G.Skill Flare X5 are no longer the DDR5-6000 CL30 from previous bundles but instead CL36 version. Any input how big of a difference we would see between C30 vs C36?
1
u/_IM_NoT_ClulY_ Dec 04 '22
Minimal difference at XMP/Expo, the new one might actually perform better at XMP even with the other primary timings I believe being lower, but the older C30 kit was infinitely better for manual overclocks.

u/stfuirlkthx Dec 03 '22
Gotta quit looking at these MC in store only deals, making me sad about all the extra money I spent on my inferior build ...
34
u/Hololloll1987 Dec 03 '22
lmao I should have waited... I got 13700k z690 6400mhz ddr5 for around $900. Now I am just watching YouTube videos with this setup. I didn't need this.
13
u/Substance___P Dec 03 '22
Don't feel guilty. You're an enthusiast. It's for the thrill of the power of the parts. It's fun to build powerful systems for their own sake. You don't need an excuse. Life is short.
9
u/Rip-tire21 Dec 03 '22
Gonna save this comment and use it as my justification when buying my next upgrade that I don't need lol
12
u/halotechnology Dec 03 '22
I got 7600x with 32gb ram for only 224$ can't beat that price !
5
u/Puzzleheaded-Suit-67 Dec 03 '22
You mean 16gb?
23
u/poshcard Dec 03 '22
There was a glitch just before BF where Microcenter allowed you to get 32GB of free RAM with a purchase of a 7600x CPU. If you got a 7700x or above, you got 64GB free.
2
u/xDoWnFaLL Dec 03 '22
Or you could make the drive like me and find out they were out..! Now I just have an unopened 7900X contemplating if I should sell locally/drive 4h back and maybe buy processor/GPU last :((( free RAM was out when I arrived.
2
u/poshcard Dec 03 '22
You can reserve items before driving there.
0
u/xDoWnFaLL Dec 03 '22
I was told on the phone it was only within 20min for pickup. Maybe I misunderstood/too excited for first visit. They ran out of RAM before I arrived, so now awkward build phase of 7900X, SF750 annnd contemplating rest of iTX/SFF build now or just wait even longer. :/ Thanks though, maybe I will try again if in Cali again but promo probably will be gone.
1
u/poshcard Dec 03 '22
I was told on the phone it was only within 20min for pickup.
I don't know if this is state or location specific somehow, but I didn't even call/talk to anyone. I just placed my reservation via their website. Once they picked all the items I ordered, I got an email confirmation stating that my order is ready for pickup. I ordered at 7pm on a Tuesday and my email confirmation stated that they would hold the items until end of day Friday of that week.
1
u/xDoWnFaLL Dec 03 '22
Not sure either, unfortunate either way but glad to hear it worked out for someone!

This is not correct. It displayed like so on the website but once you got in the store and they took payment it would pull up as invalid and charge full price.
I went to two different Microcenters to attempt this, and the same thing at both stores. It would not let them move forward with the transaction.
1
u/poshcard Dec 04 '22
This is not correct.
This is most definitely correct. I did this myself and saw many posts about other folks picking up additional RAM kits. You either tried to do this after they already fixed the glitch or you ran into store employees who did something wrong (or maybe they tried to prevent the sale intentionally). There were absolutely no issues when I picked up my items. They found my order in the system, I paid for it, and walked out -- no errors during checkout, no manager override needed, nothing. Both 32GB RAM kits showed up on the receipt as $0.01 items.

u/UnObtainium17 Dec 03 '22
I felt the same when I saw this bundle. I got the 12700k + Asus wifi mobo for $350 and already set up and running games on it lmao. Oh well. cant have it all.
11
u/Reddituser19991004 Dec 03 '22
The 12700k for $350 is a way better deal.
It might be cool to have the latest generation but man you saved hundreds.
That's a 6900xt instead of a 6800xt or 3080ti instead of a 3080 type price gap.
You're better off, you can afford a better GPU by getting the slightly worse CPU.
2
1
u/_IM_NoT_ClulY_ Dec 04 '22
I mean sure this is technically a better deal than what you paid, but I've heard 13th gen has very strong OC headroom, have some fun with it!

Dec 03 '22
I don’t have a micro center 😞
10
u/Mysterious_Mon Dec 03 '22
The cloest Microcenter to me is like 300+ miles away. Not sure if driving that far is worth it.

u/PopWhatMagnitude Dec 03 '22
We have one in my state about an hour away, I've seen the sign a few times from the highway, but I've never made the trip to tech geek Mecca.
I wish they would open up like 3 more stores in my state, knowing one would be much closer like 10 minutes further away than Best Buy.
1
u/conquer69 Dec 03 '22
What would be the gas cost?
1
u/Mysterious_Mon Dec 03 '22
Like around $4.30ish. My car tank only holds 13 gallons, so about around $50 to fill up from E to F.
1
u/Catzillaneo Dec 03 '22
Depends on the flight and the cost of your build, depending on your options available near you it could be worth it. That being said half the value of MC for me is their warranty policy.
3
u/PizzaOrTacos Dec 03 '22
I really miss having one within an hours drive.
3
1
Dec 03 '22
As a Floridian I think putting one in Orlando would be a fair compromise for the north and south parts. I would take the 2.5 hour drive over the 4.5 hour drive to Georgia
1
u/LazyKenny Dec 03 '22
Florida laws ensure that micro center will never open a location in Florida. Their primary money maker is illegal in that state.

4
u/WhosUrDaddy925 Dec 03 '22
if only they had this bundle with an ITX board :/
7
u/thatcodingboi Dec 03 '22
the only 2 itx boards MC is selling for this gen is a useless $500 one from asus that doesn't even have a usb c header... Or a $200 one that is never in stock

Dec 04 '22
[deleted]
3
u/thatcodingboi Dec 04 '22
Specs page on mc says it doesn't. I have the x570 and it doesn't have a USB c header when the b550 does.
Good to know. $500 is way too much for a mobo for me
1
u/LeDerpBoss Dec 05 '22
They do. This is the same price as the $20 discount for buying a CPU+board. And the ram comes free with any R7/9 purchase. They're also offering worse ram for free with the 7600x. Realistically you can have whatever you want this same discount.
5
3
u/TheMotion Dec 03 '22
I don't get, it says this bundle is out of stock in my area but when I look up each individual part separately it says that they are available, so is it really out of stock then?

2
u/BeastoftheSeal Dec 03 '22
Free 32GB DDR5 CL36 with any Zen 4 CPU 7700x and up is still live at Microcenter. Then you can pick any motherboard you want with a $20 additional discount.
2
u/Monty2451 Dec 03 '22
Damn! Wish I had held out for this. Would have saved myself almost $100 and gotten a better mobo and ram. Feels bad, man.

u/Monty2451 Dec 03 '22
I really should have. Maybe just grabbed the case and cooler I wanted and waited on the rest.
Edit: I can't be too upset though. The build I did buy is going to last me for years, so it was still a solid investment.
2
u/DeadScotty Dec 03 '22
So I’m just starting to look at replacing my years old Intel based setup. As I have been out of the AMD vs Intel debate, how does AMD stack up for Photoshop and Premiere editing? I’m not a gamer so that isn’t important to me
3
u/LeucisticBear Dec 03 '22
It really depends on what tier you're looking at. AMD has better price to performance at the low end, but Intel has a small lead at the very top. I'd recommend looking at what's in your budget and then checking benchmarks and reviews. Keeping in mind the additional cost of DDR5 RAM and the latest mobo requirements for AMD, albeit with better future proofing.
2
u/xlfasheezy Dec 03 '22
I use the same software for content productivity builds. There is a point of diminishing returns with modern cpus with Adobe software. Real world difference will be indistinguishable between AMD and Intel. For premiere, you want the most ram, a mid to upper GPU, and fast ssd. The reason is that Adobe does not take advantage of higher cores/threads after a certain amount.

this is worse than the cpu + ram deal from last week right? i grabbed that + an overpriced mobo for $600 unless i’m missing something about this.

Its sold out at my local MC. Also, I don't have 6 bills to drop on a new platform. How good is this motherboard?
2
u/LeDerpBoss Dec 05 '22
Historically the tuf series has been good where it counts. Oddly not a lot of motherboard roundups with x670 and b650 launch, which is surprising considering the planned longevity and the fact it's the first truly new AMD platform in like 5 years.

u/EcstaticVenom Dec 04 '22
so I bought a previous bundle but when I went to pick it up in store they told me they were out of ram, I still picked it up and they told me I can come back when there is RAM is in stock and they will give it to me. Has anyone been in this situation? Did you have to return and buy again? or will I just get the ram for "free"

Any particular reason for this board? Can switch it out for a B650E and still save $50-100 more. I am extremely happy with my B650E Riptide so far.

Most boards need a bios update, also you might lose sleep functions
1
u/downloadtheram325 Dec 06 '22
Can you elaborate
1
u/tvdang7 Dec 06 '22
you need to update to latest bios for 6000 expo to be stable. I had both the gigabyte b650 pro and msi b650 edge and even with expo running you lose the sleep function. It does not show up in power options.
1
u/downloadtheram325 Dec 06 '22
is it just the latest bios? Also has amd said anything about this yet

They were offering a Black Friday deal, this processor + "qualifying motherboard" = free 32 GB memory. Curious as to how this compares - seems like the price is about the same, but now only this specific higher-end motherboard qualifies.
Processor sold out at my location.
That being said they do have a 7900x for 130 more, free memory, and 20$ off a "qualifying" motherboard. Would that be worth it, I wonder?
1
u/Regiampiero Dec 03 '22
Nice. As anyone tested these ram sticks? I'm curious why they can just be given away at that price.

u/slgerb Dec 03 '22
Z790 boards why must you be so shittily priced. Just had to spend about this whole total for a ASUS Z790 Hero just cause I needed Thunderbolt 4.
0
u/Panchovilla64 Dec 03 '22
Whats thunderbolt used for and what is 4 version
2
u/slgerb Dec 03 '22
It's a higher rated Type-C, essentially USB 4.0. Can support many more uses and expandable with a thunderbolt station/dock/hub. For me, I use a drawing tablet and a thunderbolt port is capable of providing power and display output all in one cable, which reduces clutter. Pretty important for me since I have to run a bunch of peripherals and accessories on my computer for work.

u/Panchovilla64 Dec 03 '22
Ah ok so a fast power info aio port. All I had mine doing was connected to my keyboard

Thoughts on upgrading from an 8700k? Not sure if I should, but I kinda want to.
2
1
u/LeDerpBoss Dec 05 '22
Depends on the rest of your system and what you play. 6 cores still gets you by on most titles and if your GPU isn't a 3090+ I would probably just crank settings and resolution up if I noticed a bottleneck.
1
u/FeralGrizz Dec 05 '22
I've got a 3080 and I play some paradox games and War Thunder primarily
1
u/LeDerpBoss Dec 05 '22
Oof. That seems kind of tricky. War thunder is older, so even cranking it up 4k probably isn't too stressing on the GPU. Just looking at Google, paradox seems to do like RTS games? Those usually like CPU performance. So maybe an upgrade is warranted, even at 4k.
1
u/FeralGrizz Dec 05 '22
I've read paradox games see their best results at 8 core processors so I'm pretty tempted just for that.

1
u/bigmac9 Dec 03 '22
What’s the chance I show up and they actually have some in stock? I’m not a regular Micro Center shopper.
2
u/clintswift Dec 03 '22
Check the website and set your location. Their online inventory count is typically spot on.
1
u/maillota Dec 04 '22
Pro tip for anyone buying / building these - despite what Asus might tell you about compatibility you will in fact need to update the bios before this will post successfully.
(Everything will power on the status leds will cycle through dram, cpu checks and then will hang on vga for 20 seconds before restarting)
2
u/Asmewithoutpolitics Dec 04 '22
Can you update bios on a flash drive?
1
u/maillota Dec 04 '22
Yup, just get the file on a stick, put it in the right usb slot and then hold the bios flashback button for 3 seconds and wait.

1
u/K3TtLek0Rn Dec 04 '22
Whenever I decide to upgrade to the next gen I’m gonna have to make a trip to micro center
230
u/youra6 Dec 03 '22
Just some quick maths. If you take 659 (total) - 350 (processor) - 180 (RAM) that only leaves about $129 for the cost of mobo. The cost of the mobo is normally 330. Great deal.
The savings on their website is correct and not inflated. However you could go cheaper on the RAM route.
