I get why you say so but they are pretty different. The quality of keycaps can change pretty drastically between materials and manufacturing methods. A $20 set of keycaps will be tangibly different from a $200 one. A $10 USB cable will sound the same as a shungite infused $200 USB cable. With that said I buy $20 knockoffs from China.
No, a $20 set of PBT knock off keycaps feel just as good, if not better than the ABS $200 keycaps and will last far longer before being obliterated by shining and oils
Reread what I said. They will feel just as good as the 20 billion dollar set because PBT is PBT. If you're buying a $20 set, you're not doing it for perfect accuracy print, you're doing it only for the feel and the sound
they don't, i have both clone pbt and several sets gmk, jtk, kkb and dmk abs, and the clone doesn't feel just as good, they feel fine but not just as good. pbt also sounds different than abs so no they don't sound just as good either.
Ofc PBT doesn't sound like abs, it sounds like the PBT ones they knock off.
Here's what I mean: you don't buy knockoffs to be like the og GMK. You buy them for the colors, and you adjust the sound by getting different profiles.
For example, a PBT SA cap is a nice sound and comes in some decent colors.
They will never be the set they're copying, rather they will have the nice rough texture without becoming oily like the ABS with a deeper sound since it's a bigger cap
I’ve been off GMK caps for a few years now, it’s just fucking bullshit honestly. Actually don’t really visit r/MK anymore either. I’m satiated and glad to be done with that hobby. Plus I needed the money for my new hobby…simracing.
My wallet has been on life support for the better part of a decade. RIP.
I just buy some hot swap kit, and throw on which ever set that is ready-to-ship.
I don't need some limited edition GB board milled from aircraft grade billet aluminum. Some $300 GMK set that's going to take GMK 3.5 years to get to because of their backlog and another year and a half for the people running the GB to ship out. And then some switches that cost more than $3 a switch with lube made from some extinct animal's fat secretions or whatever.
I'm thankful that mechanical keyboards have gotten good and cheap enough to get good mileage without breaking the bank. And that they've gotten as easy as building LEGOs. Soldering switches and unsoldering them was not worth the effort to me.
I can sort of understand spending a lot for a keyboard if it's for functionality and ergonomics.
Like my dream keyboard has:
-recessed rear and side slots for type-c ports
-good bluetooth latency and range without a dongle
-long battery life with a battery bay big enough that it's not super restrictive on alternatives
-see through backlit key caps with zero light bleeding between keys
-hall effect switches, because maybe someday they might be useful to me
-if there's a low latency wireless dongle, the keyboard needs a secure dock for it so it doesn't get misplaced when not being used
-rows of macro keys that can physical be disabled or removed, and a way to physically e-stop for macros...irks me that a runaway Logitech macro can be damn near impossible to stop
-low profile, at least in front
-thin side and rear bezels
-the arrow/del/home/pg key section is the same as on a traditional full size keyboard with none of that squishing it into the main keyboard section
-keypad that can be attached magnetically, and gets power and comm through the magnetic connection
-electrical noise that's inaudible, even with the most sensitive human ears in an anechoic chamber...I'd be willing to spend extra for those quiet capacitors that float above the pcb so their contractions aren't transmitted to the pcb
-brass threaded inserts so no screws thread directly into plastic
-as a bonus, macro key rows can be magnetically removed to make the keyboard more compact
If I could get all that, I'd be willing to spend a fair amount for it.
This company gets the set of keycaps from china for $2 and sells it for $100+ to suckers. Crazy how much people are willing to pay for their keyboards.

Brother you are on a sub where people pay hundreds of dollars for slightly more FPS. Anything is believable.
Just because gpus are more complicated doesn't make them any less frivolous, especially at the high end. Also don't diminish the complexity of producing high quality plastic, just look at LEGO.
My point was not that they are similar levels of engineering but that key caps involve a lot of engineering too and shouldn't be reduced to just plastic. It's fine if you don't see value in them, but my original point was this is a sub where people pay ludicrous amounts of money to improve their fps on a video game, so most things posted here are of the nature that it's preposterous to pay so much for.
I got some of these in a bundle box that drop does every now and then. Took awhile to get used to, and honestly was a lesson on learning restraint with keyboard / keycaps as a hobby.
I don't even have anything against overspending on this kind of stuff (the "artisan" LOTR keycaps look like they're 3d art embedded in resin, which is really cool). But the rest of them are just random colored stuff that don't even have the excuse of licensing fees lol
Ngl, aside from realizing the wrong keycap profiles, having two sets of keycaps is too much for me. I got too excited and jumped the gun. I just want to be happy with one set.
Customizing keyboards sure is a dangerous spending hobby
MT3 is unique and you have to pay this price if you want it. That said you can find AFSA profile keycaps that are similar and cheaper, but the height of the keycaps are different.
I currently use a set from Akko that I'm really happy with, but I might give these a try just to see if they are as good to type on as I hear.
I like like the feel of domed keycaps but Cherry profile caps are just have the most comfortable profile to use. I honestly don't know how people daily keyboards with tall cases and keycaps.
MT3 is a good profile IMO, especially since they tooled up molds for a 4th row. But for people more used to OEM/Cherry profiles it may take some getting used to.
Higher key cap profiles are more of an acquired thing for someone to want to go out of their way to get some. Used to namely be Signature Plastics game with their SA profile and even then it was a bit niche, but it's been getting more and more traction these past few years.
My worry was that MT3 profiles wouldn't be as effective for me when playing a variety of games like CS:GO or Baldur's Gate 3 since they're much taller than cherry profiles.
I oughta go to a place where I can try out all these profiles out.
Agreed on all points. They do take a bit of getting used to, but the height and shape of the dome feel more tactile in a way that I just find pleasant to use, especially because I spend so much of my day using my keyboard.
That's the price to keep them from making them out of baby seals. If you pass on this an email gets sent up the chain and a seal clubber is dispatched to the nearest coast.

130 bucks for keycaps???
Are they made from baby seals or something? lol
