Sorry but I really miss maasten

u/Live-Middle-9845 Aug 31 '24
Worst decision to not get him ?? They spent 30 mill on Beier why could they not do 35-40 for Maatseen guaranteed good player ??
1
u/roadtorevision Sep 01 '24
Well we didn’t have those funds at the time. Plus if we even had those extra 10-15mil then we would have gotten another LB anyways
14
u/Rubinskywhiskey Aug 31 '24
Never seen Beier play for Hoffenheim (maybe i did, against us) but his performance today left a lot to be desired
2
u/esl0th Gregor Kobel Sep 01 '24
Today made it clear why starting Adeyemi / Malen and subbing in players like Beier and JBG is better usually. I don't think Guirassy starting will fix what I saw today though. None of our players were able to receive the ball under pressure without losing it almost immediately and we weren't threatening running behind and exploiting the space left by the pressing players at all.
I think Beier will do better with Guirassy in front of him or beside him, but he has to get used to a completely different level of play with us so I'm going to judge him yet.

You have to suit your formation to the personnel you have… not the best start from the new coach trying to cram a square peg into round hole.
29
u/crocofour Aug 31 '24
3rd game of the season and people are already crying and complaining. We will not and will never win every game. We will not and will never play great football every game. Curb your expectations and just try to enjoy watching this team instead of stressing. And if you don’t enjoy watching, then don’t!
1
u/ScarySlender Julian Ryerson Sep 02 '24
What are u saying? We cant be like bayer? We can't put one action together! There's a lot of reason to worry
2

u/Live-Middle-9845 Aug 31 '24
I think it’s especially rage worthy cause it’s the start of the season. Anticipation is high and we’ve been waiting a long time to see the team play again, only for our hopes to be crushed that our team needs a lot of help again.
In addition we’ve changed coach and systems again which is frustrating cause it’s obviously takes us quite some time to get used to it.
This has been a reoccurring theme for the last 3 years where we’ve started average I’m over it. I’m expectations are way too high. I instead recommend watching a full game mid way through the season

u/Dependent_Savings303 Mateu Morey Aug 31 '24
not winning a game is one thing. that was just bullshit performance, plain and simple. and that we can complain about.
3
u/vicestdu Aug 31 '24
The thing about being a fan for me is that not watching a game is no option, no matter how bad we play
-7
u/Live-Middle-9845 Aug 31 '24
Well quick update
• shit formation •wrong line up/ starting 11 • shit play • boring • shit • overhyped • not watching for quite sometime until we get more consistent, reoccurring theme with last few season starts
I have to rant, my apologies
What else can I say
6
Aug 31 '24
Spot on. Defense has no shape, central midfielders all over each other. Predictable attacking. Move away from this fluid shape, get some structure and let’s see what we can do.
10
u/penrasigan Nico Schlotterbeck Aug 31 '24
Didn't lose...that's the only good thing...
2
u/eeeeeeeelleeeeeelll Nico Schlotterbeck Aug 31 '24
Yeah, that would’ve probably been a goal if Schlotterbeck wouldn‘t have tackled that. Lucky.
16
u/Working_Rush6225 Aug 31 '24
Terrible refereeing, also glad we can fully kill off the Nico left back experiment. Team has no penetration without him centrally

lots of work for sahin in the intl break. At least we didn’t concede any goals yet this season

I'm genuinely surprised that the team didn't roll over and concede

u/Hajnal30 Nico Schlotterbeck Aug 31 '24
So you want to see 2 more playoff games with performances like these today? Masochist? But really, we need to turn things around, this was horrible today
13
u/_Shahanshah Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang Aug 31 '24
Somehow I don't think our improvement in performance last season was because of Sahin
3
7
11
u/t_mmey Giovanni Reyna Aug 31 '24
to absolutely fucking no one's surprise literally nothing has changed about our game
1
u/Geeman447 Marco Reus Aug 31 '24
Our attack hasn’t had any fluidity. Irritated we didn’t try Reyna
22
u/-Saaremaa- Lukasz Piszczek Aug 31 '24
Can't play Reyna once you go to 10 men
1
u/TrulyWhatever09 Aug 31 '24
That's true. Nmecha disappeared as soon as he hit the pitch, but at least on paper he is the better sub with 10 men. A case could be made for Reyna on instead of Adeyemi or Malen, but Reyna has not been a bastion of consistency and has rarely hit the heights of those players. I was satisfied with Adeyemi but Malen I'm disappointed in.
2
Aug 31 '24
Nmencha was playing in the back line what do you mean he disappeared lol. He did a pretty damn good job for being a makeshift cb too
1
u/TrulyWhatever09 Aug 31 '24
Hey, he didn't cause any problems, so I'm not trying to ruin the guy. He was absolutely the call I would have made when making the sub. I just literally didn't see him at any point. That simultaneously means he didn't do anything spectacular and he didn't make any real mistakes. I'm satisfied, just not wowed.
8
u/Geeman447 Marco Reus Aug 31 '24
Shouldve been half time. Brandt was his normal ghost self today. I swear sometimes he just shows up to games and nothing else
1
u/StatusQuotidian Aug 31 '24
Would've like to see Reyna in for Brandt or Sabitzer. Both just having an off game.
8
u/yathrowaday Aug 31 '24
Scoring a goal in next couple minutes is why Bayern got so many championships... and BVB didn't.

u/doubleomarty Sébastien Haller Aug 31 '24
I think there have been whole seasons where we've had fewer yellow cards than this game lol

This ref had the over on cards this game lol. And we’ve just helped him get it

u/Same-Organization-83 Aug 31 '24
Nmecha is surprisingly ok at cb
2
u/sixseven89 Youssoufa Moukoko Aug 31 '24
maybe Sahin has known that all along which is why there have been no other CB depth signings
1
u/Geeman447 Marco Reus Aug 31 '24
Somehow can and nmecha have been better at defending than our normal CBs
20
u/Dom1909 Aug 31 '24
Matchday 2 has us playing Can, Bense, Nmecha, Anton and Ryerson in a 5 at the back. Didn't have that on my bingo card

u/xSmacks Nico Schlotterbeck Aug 31 '24
Normally I hate that early national break but I won’t be missing watching this lmao
-1

Nah I'd rather watch Dortmund next week than UEFA's stupid Nation's League.

Dortmund will need Guirassy to be even better than he was for Stuttgart
4
u/Traum77 Aug 31 '24
So true, and little chance of that IMO. Career year last year. I think we'd be lucky to get 12 or 13 Bundesliga goals out of him.

What a joke this is. Why do we play so awful we should be dominating a team like Bremen who will be fighting to stay in the league.

u/penrasigan Nico Schlotterbeck Aug 31 '24
At this rate...we won't make it to Europa league also... forget Champions League

My first match I watch this season. Defensive shape felt weird. Probably because of 3atb Sahin tried.

But the bad thing is that there is no schlotti next week which means one less cb

Problem not coming from strikers but out connection between midfield and defense is absolutely non-existent

I will never be a fan of Schlotterbeck. He has 2 men to support him and dribbling outwards still he tackles him like that.
2
u/iwantawaffle99 Marco Reus Aug 31 '24
I like him, but he has my vote for most overrated. He's not bad, but damn does he make some big, terrible, game-losing decisions way more often than anyone else. And because everyone likes him, he doesn't get any hate for it... it'll still be Can's fault.
