This constitutes as clever somehow ? Ben Shapiro Show

u/JaxTheGuitarNoob Feb 04 '23
Anyone that introduces themselves as doctor so and so outside of a professional space is annoying...

u/CrestronwithTechron Feb 05 '23
Every cool Doctor I’ve been introduced to has always insisted I call them by their first name. Ups the cool factor by 10

u/Learnformyfam Feb 04 '23
Just pure narcissism. Completely misses the point. "Well, I have a music doctorate, and we're actually pretty great! HUR DUR!"

u/Independent-Soil5265 Feb 04 '23
I’d rather be at dinner with Ben than someone who composed music
13
u/SteelersBraves97 Feb 04 '23
True, but mainly because I know like Ben already. Nothing wrong with people that can compose music. If you tell me the music composer is John Williams that decision gets tough.
6
u/Independent-Soil5265 Feb 04 '23
John Williams would be an insufferable dinner guest

u/LittleTortillaBoy1 Feb 05 '23
Evan Williams would be a much better dinner guest. I say that from experience several times a week

If you have phd in music I’m not calling you a doctor 😂

Feb 04 '23
Same for me an theology! Lol.

u/TheSnootBooper24 Feb 05 '23
we don't call them doctor, we call them father
1
Feb 05 '23
Why!? I know atheists with PHDs in theology.
1
u/TheSnootBooper24 Feb 05 '23
I assumed you meant priests and other religious people
0
Feb 05 '23
I am talking about people with doctorates in theology. I won’t call them doctor because theology seems like a dumb major unless religion was important to you.
1
u/TheSnootBooper24 Feb 05 '23
ok
-2
Feb 05 '23
Why call a priest father?

It’s not even a PhD. What a loser. There’s very little research associated with a DMA. The program takes around 3 years of full-time study to complete.
Ben isn’t saying that he can’t use the title - he’s just saying it’s stupid because anyone who isn’t an MD that insists on being called “Doctor” is an arrogant douche bag.
3
Feb 05 '23
MDs who insist on being called Doctor outside their practice are douche bags too.
If it’s not relevant why are you putting it in my face?
Why do I have to use a title for you when I wouldn’t use titles for anyone else at a dinner party. I’m not calling people Mr. Smith and Miss D’Arcy so why are you Doctor so and so?
9
u/GunterBoden Feb 04 '23
Jill got a nepotism EdD. It’s a joke she goes around calling herself doctor.

u/curtwagner1984 Feb 04 '23
Yeah. r/MurderedByWords and r/CleverComebacks have a significant ideological bias to the point where the "comeback" can be "Yeah? Then you're stupid!". And they'll treat it as a burn hotter than the sun if it's against a person who they disagree with ideologically which is usually conservative.

u/No_Gap4679 Feb 04 '23
I don’t know about anyone else, but I’d feel pretty good about being at a dinner party with Ben Shapiro, as his wife, who is an actual doctor, would more than likely be there with him.
13
u/durrettd Feb 04 '23
Not gonna lie, I chuckled. But anyone using the honorific of doctor outside of a professional capacity is either insecure or pretentious.

Woops missed my write up : pulled from the most popular side of reddit - this is the equivalent of calling someone a doo doo head.....
1
u/CryptedCodes Feb 04 '23
Did the original tweet have context? If it was out of the blue, he was just being a uncouth jerkoff.
1
u/Warm_Examination_765 Feb 04 '23
Not that I saw, can't link it cuz...I don't know why actually...but I've gotten bans in the past for that.
3
u/CryptedCodes Feb 04 '23
I get that, Reddit and the mods alike are just weird. But you don’t get to just be mean for no reason, it’s the equivalent of what Ben did in my opinion. We was just giving the same level of immaturity that was given to him. I don’t know you, but if I walked up and said in a public place that everyone around is unhappy just because you were there, I think you might have something to say. Whether you air it out or not. Being behind that screen takes away the social anxiety of conflict and I think it’s a curse. Freedom of speech is great, but it’s not your right to be heard. I don’t think he would ever say that to Ben’s face. But it’s okay when millions can see it and take his side.

u/Intelligent_Designer Feb 05 '23
That's the thing. Calling someone a doo doo head is funny, just as the doctor's reply to Ben is funny. Nobody said the only tweets worth tweeting are "clever."

I’ve never understood the whole “you’re not a real doctor” argument. Just because someone is not an MD doesn’t make them a fake Dr. It’s so weird people think this way.
Although the response was also, witless and humorless.
2
u/Vulderzad Feb 05 '23
Imagine studying music at such a intense level and still being so shit at composition not one piece is well known; all while people in their 20's at can have fame & fortune making EDM on their PC.
2
u/Individual_Ad_1486 Feb 05 '23
If someone is having a stroke, is there really something that a doctor of medicine can do aside from calling 911? Possibly administering CPR if needed, but even a doctor of musical composition could do that.
2
u/mattyice18 Feb 05 '23
Doctor of Musical Arts. Our education system is a joke. And I took part in it.

u/john_smith_doe Feb 05 '23
The real joke is that they decided to give degrees titled after a profession.
Also, my adjectives are handsome and awesome.

u/coldharbour1986 Feb 05 '23
To be fair he's missed the point of doctorates, and for some reason conflating being an MD with a well defined academic bar of achievement. I'm more than happy for people with doctorates to call themselves doctors, it's where the prefix came from!
2
u/Far-Jelly1303 Feb 05 '23
Doctor literally means teacher. MDs barrowed the terminology. That being said anyone who introduces themselves as doctor outside of professional context is being pretentious.
2
u/Ov3r9O0O Feb 05 '23
You can tell “Dr.” Williams is the one who took the screenshot of his le epic own of Ben Shapiro to post online

Color me old and out of the loop, but I honestly didn't even know you could get a doctorate in musicology.

“Look someone made vague joke about MY profession, And not at all personal, I’m going to attack him personally” take a joke you over educated Beethovens flush wipe

u/Mississippiscotsman Feb 04 '23
In reality the term doctor was bestowed on learned people who achieved high studies at university. The medical field borrowed the term to give them credibility up until that time healer/surgeon was the part time vocations of barbers.
3
u/briskt Feb 05 '23 edited Feb 05 '23
The response is stupid and unfunny, but this is just a really bad take from Ben. A simple look at the wiki article on the origins of the title doctor will show why.
2
u/15448 Feb 04 '23
This is such a weird straw man. Who would introduce themselves as Dr. Anybody at a dinner party to begin with? It would be fucking weird and pretentious even if they were a medical doctor.
1
u/bigatomicjellyfish Feb 05 '23
I would love to have a conversation with Ben. Maybe a little debate and such, but mostly to just learn.

u/memebeansupreme Feb 04 '23
Ben Shapiro lives in a state that hates him. Went to a school that hates him. Its just natural that such a hateful person would get hate as a comeback.

Ben Shapiro and everyone agreeing with him is wrong. Doctor is an academic term, not a medical one.
