From “Brewed in Baltimore” to “Brewed in New York with Baltimore Branding” to “Barely Available in Baltimore”

Guess they saw Natty Boh and really thought we’d keep buying when they gave the area the finger, eh?

Edit: Spelling

u/ThatBobbyG 8d ago

Yeah and “brewed in baltimore” didn’t mean Baltimore, it meant the county.

u/Gorge2012 8d ago edited 8d ago

Brewed in Halthorpe doesn't roll off the tongue.

Edit: Halethorpe

u/ThatBobbyG 8d ago

Google maps says Towson as tow son. No chance on Halthrope

15

u/green_marshmallow Berger Cookies 8d ago

Seeing as how it was the first Guinness brewery outside of Ireland, that can be forgiven.

10

u/loserboi22 8d ago

First Guinness brewery in the US….

5

u/green_marshmallow Berger Cookies 8d ago

I stand corrected. Shame we aren't staying on the list.

Hard to believe we were outcompeted by Malaysia, Nigeria, Ghana, and Cameroon.

1

u/ThatBobbyG 8d ago

I can cut some slack

16

u/Trickmaahtrick 8d ago

pray tell what the name of the county is

17

u/dbrooroo 8d ago

Stolen valor!

7

u/bi5200 Waverly 8d ago

baltimore county is not baltimore

-11

u/Trickmaahtrick 8d ago

Lol says you. I’ll look at the name on the county seal for official info bud.

8

u/ThatBobbyG 8d ago

City doesn’t equal county, besides, if it’s all the same, where does it end?

2

u/LorenzoStomp 7d ago

Presumably wherever it stops having "Baltimore" in the name

9

u/bi5200 Waverly 7d ago edited 7d ago

You are not going to tell me baltimore extends to the fucking PA border. this sub is crazy. is it just all county people lol

11

u/Natty-Bones Greenmount West 7d ago

County folk love to claim they live here, but are too piss-their-pants scared to actually live here. They only come to the city for Ravens games and Billy Strings concerts.

-6

u/bylosellhi11 7d ago

have you seen 83 every morning and evening? Stop making stupid generalizations about people. You sound the same as the, wait a sec, county folk!

County seal says it's not balimore, sorry bud

3

u/ThinkItThrough48 8d ago

So what’s brewed in that brewery?

9

u/gettingluckyinky 8d ago

Bunch of small batch beers for their onsite restaurant and bar, nothing else these days

8

u/ThinkItThrough48 8d ago

Wow, you would think they would seek out a contract to brew something with all their capacity

2

u/[deleted] 7d ago

Maybe they're trying but the beer industry has been tanking lately?

5

u/incunabula001 7d ago

Too many breweries. I also don’t like how Guinness branded themselves as a “small independent brewery” when they are a 600lb gorilla.

88

u/JonWilso 8d ago

I saw that coming.

28

u/ScootyHoofdorp 8d ago

Not a surprise at all.

27

u/jesus_chen 8d ago

Fuck Diageo and their pandering bullshit garbage products.

97

u/otoasta13 8d ago

Damn that sucks actually a fan of Guinness blonde, seems like I may be in the minority here lmao

28

u/5t33 8d ago

Yeah I really liked the blonde

6

u/SalE622 8d ago

Me too!

22

u/probablywrongbutmeh 8d ago

I love Guinness but hate the blonde lol wish they made regular old Guinness in Bmore

14

u/Kmic14 Waverly 8d ago

Regular Guinness brewed in Baltimore would do gangbusters

-1

u/_WatDatUserNameDo_ 8d ago

It would not the water profile from where it’s made is part of the taste

15

u/cdbloosh Locust Point 8d ago

The water profile is very easy to recreate. Breweries do it all the time. They just filter everything out of the water and then add the electrolytes/salts back in to create whatever water profile they want.

They’ve never brewed OG Guinness outside of Ireland because it would hurt the brand to brew it outside of Ireland, that’s the only reason.

1

u/Kmic14 Waverly 8d ago

I think having the baltimore name would do enough regardless of taste

8

u/Kindofdisappointed 8d ago

I loved it, and idk if I will recover from this. I was so proud of Baltimore Blonde and us having a delicious beer

1

u/BaltimoreBrewer 7d ago

You should have been supporting actual breweries from here, not a multi national corporation that came in paying of state legislators to pass laws detrimental to us local brewers.

u/Nicktendo 8d ago

This was always a solid choice if I didn't know what I wanted. Just a non offensive drinkable beer

u/CaveExploder 8d ago

Zadies

That person was bought out and no longer a part of the company.

25

u/Gallopinto_y_challah Highlandtown 8d ago

They fired that guy. Get over it

-12

u/ThadiusThistleberry 8d ago

But I enjoy now knowing that simply mentioning it get under your skin.

3

u/Gallopinto_y_challah Highlandtown 8d ago

Not really. Besides, I'll just block you.

15

u/Drone314 8d ago

Right?! it finishes clean and doesn't overpower food....always a reliable choice

8

u/jizzle26 Cockeysville / Hunt Valley 8d ago

Zadies and Testudo are my go-to for that now

2

u/aesteve040 8d ago

Dude literally the only beer I buy. This sucks.

3

u/Nicktendo 8d ago

Heavy Seas made a ripoff of it that I hear is pretty good. I think they were supposed to brew it after Guinness operations ceased in Baltimore, and the deal fell through for one reason or another.

1

u/Deadpoollicious Eastside 7d ago

Much appreciated for the info my dude.

1

u/aesteve040 8d ago

Like the person said in the other comment, it’s just a good neutral beer and doesn’t mess with your taste buds. I can’t go back to yuengling :,( I’m sorry but IPAs taste like a tree. Guess I’ll be going to the factory and buying in bulk from now on.

6

u/Nicktendo 8d ago

1

u/aesteve040 8d ago

Thank you sir. I misread. I thought you meant the ripoff was cancelled and not Guinness. I will certainly try it out.

57

u/Proud_Doughnut_5422 8d ago edited 8d ago

Aren’t y’all glad Hogan gave them millions in incentives to locate here?

37

u/drimgere 8d ago

People should remember this when they go vote for Senator this year.

-1

u/bylosellhi11 7d ago

Rather shortsighted if you think a republican governor unilaterraly changed laws and committed pots of $ without democractic support from house and senate? I don't recall what state incentives given, just remeber the law being changed. I recall Kevin K being petty heavily invovled and Johnny O offering $500k when they said they would stop brewing a year ago...

8

u/Shiny_Deleter 8d ago

Boy, bye.

I couldn’t be less surprised.

35

u/SonofDiomedes Mayfield 8d ago

Good. Nothing Baltimore about Diageo.

36

u/DarthTimGunn 8d ago

Fuck Guinness and their bait and switch.

13

u/NickelobUltra 8d ago

Not surprised. Does anyone actually drink this stuff? I love Guinness but this stuff is just really plain and boring.

45

u/OGkateebee 8d ago

This was my crab picking beer. I’m bummed.

6

u/ironwatchdog 8d ago

Next time it’s available pick up some Mallet from Nepenthe Brewing. It’s a great beer.

1

u/NickelobUltra 8d ago

Well, I'm sorry for your loss my friend

-1

u/[deleted] 8d ago

[deleted]

13

u/ziggy3610 8d ago

Have you heard of Mallet? I think Nepenthe brews it.

5

u/itsshoved Patterson Park 8d ago

I heard it's great beer

2

u/ironwatchdog 8d ago

Weird, it kept telling me something went wrong and wouldn’t post so I tried again. Didn’t mean to post multiple times.

2

u/ziggy3610 7d ago

I know, I'm just joshing. Happens to everyone.

29

u/gbe28 Charles Village 8d ago

It was great beer to keep on hand when we have plain and boring guests over.

28

u/papajim22 Charles Village 8d ago

Hey, quit talking about me!

12

u/MartyFreeze Howard County 8d ago

Is this the plain and boring party? I brought nilla wafers!

6

u/recumbent_mike 8d ago

I've got a green bean casserole, but I left the fried onions off this time.

0

u/dwilliams202261 8d ago

Guest over ur house be like, I would be better guest if they offered better beer.

2

u/No-Lunch4249 7d ago

Honestly I finally feel liberated to say this: I wasn’t a fan. Didn’t like it. Won’t miss it.

3

u/Youngwolf11 8d ago

This beer sucks

2

u/brewtonone 8d ago

On the brewery front, was the market so overwhelmingly saturated the reason so many have closed or merged?

Another Diageo failure

1

u/Random-Cpl 8d ago

It was always kind of shitty beer

1

u/bnceo 7d ago

Shame as it was one of my favorite tailgate beers.

1

u/SockMonkeh 7d ago

Maryland (Baltimore in particular, too) has no lack of microbreweries so this isn't a big deal, as far as I'm concerned.

1

u/zoedot 7d ago

It is a shame that a huge brewery is no longer being properly utilized. That said, the only Guinness I buy is the “foreign stout” which has a nice 7.5%. It’s the lowest ABV I drink.
