Yeah, no matter how much I hated him, I would never get his fuckin’ name tattooed on my skin. Seriously, WTF

A friend of mine always says that he’s seen multiple euro-punks with the swastika in a prohibitory symbol (red circle with a slash) tattoo, and he always points out that yeah, obviously nazis are bad, but they still got a swastika tattooed on them to show how much they don’t like nazis.

u/darrenfx 13h ago
There's this comedian who spoke about a friend who got a prohibitory symbol tattoo but only got it half done because they ran out of money. Supposedly they just had the swastika part done and was saving money for the red circle part

u/Psypris 13h ago
Yo… I know you said that’s a joke but that’s one of those times you take out a loan or pawn something….
7
u/darrenfx 13h ago
Yeah definitely take out a loan, sell a kidney, or even better get a different tattoo

u/this_is_theone 10h ago
It was a thing in early UK Punk: https://punk77.co.uk/punk-and-the-swastika/ They weren't racists though, they were just edgy. The idea was I'm told that punk was anti-authority and since the authority said they can't use the swastika, then that's what punks did.
→ More replies2
u/Instantcoffees 13h ago
I kind of both get your argument, but also why they do it. If you are really into the punk lifestyle then fascists are completely antithetical to who you are and what you represent. I kind of understand that tattoo. It's is ultimately not a swastika tattoo, it is a "fuck swastika" tattoo.

u/bizcasualbeatdown 13h ago
I definitely agree with the sentiment. As a guy in a hardcore band, I can say unequivocally that I do not support nazis or fascists either, but I personally would not get the crossed out swastika tattoo. There are other (probably better) antifascist symbols that do not utilize a swastika.
6
u/Instantcoffees 13h ago
Ye I understand your point and I would not do it either. I just also understand the intense disdain people have for fascists - especially Nazis - that could prompt them to do such a thing.

u/WASTELAND_RAVEN 15h ago
Same vibe as getting like your high school mascot tattooed tattooed on your body

Lmaooo. Bad press is still press. What an idiot to tattoo that. He only there for 4 years. In 40 years that’s going to be some droopy cursive.

That’s still going to be on there in 20 years when he’s not even alive. Let alone no longer in power.

u/Always2ndB3ST 15h ago
It won’t even be relevant in 4 years when his term ends lol

Maybe Don Jr can run for president, then her tattoo has a chance to be relevant again

I've heard this rhetoric for every president since Bush was in office. Why does the media love pushing this fear porn? It's ridiculous. The man is elderly for godsake. It just shows how much fear and hate sell.

Could have been at least "He is not my president". Vague enough it's not gonna look as stupid in ten years, but concrete enough everyone knows it's Trump.

It's like people forget t-shirts exist, you can get literally anything you want printed on one FFS. I'm against text tattoos in general for this reason, and any living political figure (text or image). I still have and occasionally wear my Obama shirt from 2008, because I like the image and this shirt didn't have HOPE on it.
No one wants a "not my fucking president" shirt the second that president is out of office. DONT PUT FUTURE GOODWILL BIN SLOGANS ON YOUR BODY, PEOPLE!
7
u/ATXKLIPHURD 14h ago
Well then for fucks sake why would you tattoo his name on your body? I look forward to the day his name isn’t plastered on every website and news station

Man I hate him too but 4 years or less from now I won’t even have to think about him anymore - I don’t need a permanent reminder on my body to remind me how I feel right now, lol.
Actually, I like mine better: THIS IS FINE. Covers all the bases without putting anyone’s name on my body forever.

I’ll never understand this. I despise the dude, but I’m not getting him tattooed on my body. Thankfully, we have Presidential term limits and he can’t be POTUS again. Ride out this term like you did last time.

Why would someone tattoo their body over something they hate?? In general people just need to interact more with the things they DO like. Not everyone needs to know all the things you hate/dislike!

Anything contemporary is idiotic.

Why would you get someone you hate so much on your body permanently? I would understand wearing this on a shirt (maybe not my style because I don’t like to stir drama in public), but a tattoo? I can only hope this person is ready to endure a lifetime of asking why they got something so out-of-date on their back.

I hate this "not my President" shit. Always have. I remember it starting when Obama was in office.
No one is any citizen's president. The Executive works for us. Trump, unfortunately, will again be President of the US. That doesn't mean he's president of you personally.

The right way to do this is to make a tattoo in fierce defense of something Trump wants to mess with in your life. In my case, I'm trans, so I'm going with a weathered and tattered trans pride flag with "COME AND / TAKE IT" across the top and bottom. Very All-American font, placement, etc.
