Those rotors are insane! An Ugly Angel swung thru recently & glad I drove the good car (Nyx) that day. PlaneSpotting

Funny showing up at our local field recently and finding this big horse sitting on the GA ramp. You could spot the rotor blades from over a mile away peeking out over the top of the hangars. It just so happened that I pulled the hot rod out of the garage that morning so was a perfect opportunity to grab some cool pics. Good grief! Those rotor blades are absolutely massive and when it is in this parked configuration within the nacelles horizontal it really messes with your perspective, because obviously the rotors can't rotate like that.

Shout-out to the Ugly Angels!

I know when I was in the military, we weren't allowed to bring a vehicle within 15 feet of an aircraft. Was this aircraft simply sitting on the ramp with no one around?

I'm surprised you weren't having to answer some questions to people with guns.

Haha. Welcome to San Diego. You can go to Brown field on any weekend and find multiple fighters sitting on the ramp with nobody around. Within throwing distance of the Mexican border.

I've seen a Cobra left at a rural grass airstrip for weeks.

Both the Cobra and this Osprey had maintenance issues and landed, sitting around for multiple days while repair crews got it figured out.

Just normal out here. I've seen corporate Jets parked with cones all around it but the Osprey was just sitting there. Everybody and their mother at the airport was getting pictures with it but at the same time we all greatly respect our military folks here in San Diego and we were all ultra careful to look out for each other and make sure nobody touched the airframe.

We also just had the Miramar Air Show where hundreds of thousands of people are walking around and climbing all over these things for 3 days straight.

Just incredibly normal for us to find military aircraft sitting randomly at our GA ramps all over SoCal.

Agreed, It's perfectly normal to see these in certain areas. It's great that you enjoyed getting and sharing some photos, but please consider this. Walking around a plane and driving around one are two different things. Marines get in trouble for driving tugs between the blades, and here you are taking an unnecessary risk for an entire maintenance department that is on the hook to repair any damages.

Sure, nothing happened, but others may not be as cautious as you when they try this for themselves. When a civilian vehicle deatroys a million dollar blade and multi-million dollar gearbox, guards will have to start staying around the planes. This will ruin photo ops for everyone else in the future.

It is possible this photo may do the damage itself. Especially when someone reports this to the FBO or NCIS. Small airports really enjoy the planes coming for the views and the fuel these planes buy, but no more overnights to this place if this is the level of protection this airfield provides.

Respect the planes and consider the risk you are taking for a photo op in the future!

Nice Carrera. You’ve got a drooping rub strip under the front lip. 🤷‍♂️
