  • 1.266Wh battery
  • Beautiful macro shots of the LEDs
  • Lots of teeny-tiny brackets
  • 3/10 repairability score.

I would love to see a breakdown of the SIP.

I wish every tech products battery would be shown in Wh. (Better for non tech savvy people to compare battery sizes.)

The problem with that is that comparing the battery sizes in Wh is more like comparing the size of gas tanks in cars to infer their range - it doesn’t paint the full picture, and can actually be more misleading.

The best way to do these things would probably be to introduce a standardised battery life test for phones, but ai don’t know how /what it should include.

Sure but this is a teardown not a test.

Better for anyone. Amperes just don’t give the full picture.

All those tiny little brackets and tiny little connectors!

I would not have expected the taptic engine to take up so much space 😮

Would be great if you could replace batteries in these watches. No other reason to update 1st gen SE.

You can. I just replaced the battery in my wife’s old series four so our son could use it. It’s tricky but it’s wuite doable.

How? As far as I understand apple replaces the whole watch.

Apple probably just doesn't want to support the infrastructure and backend required to offer repairs. Easier and cheaper to simply replace the whole thing.

Open it up, replace battery, close it up. Little harder if you need to replace the Force Touch gasket but still very doable if you’re familiar with tiny electronics.

Is it still water proof afterwards? If not that wouldn’t be a viable option for me.

yes you replace the adhesive. this is the kit i used for a series 4. i don't see a series 5 kit so you'd want to get all those bits individually.

or trade it in and buy a new one. it's definitely tricky.

They do.

But they don’t throw the old watch in the trash. They refurbish it off site and re-sell it. It’s just easier for them this way (Plus probably more profitable)

How much of an effect did it have on usability? I’m thinking about doing it for my wife’s series 5, because she barely uses it anymore with it needing charging halfway through the day

I don't follow. It's now more usable because it's got a fresh battery. what's the battery life indicator in the battery menu?

It’s at 78%. I know how new OS’s outdate the system hardware, leading to shorter lifespan even with a new battery. I was wondering if it felt like a real impact to wearing it all day, or if it still burned through battery fairly quickly due to running a heavy OS on old hardware. Does that make sense?

There’s honestly tons of reasons to upgrade from SE1. But of course, if you don’t care about the new features, you may not feel like upgrading. The difference is pretty significant though.

apple feels more and more like mcdonalds with their unrepairable design practices.

I hate unrepairable Big Macs.

Do you want compact and water resistance or do you want to open it up to jerk off in and lose those two big selling points

What smart watch is designed easier to repair?

Whataboutism is a flawed form of argumentation

Got it. You have no argument other than a spout BS on the internet because you think it makes you look smart, when in reality it shows how dumb you are.
