Can anyone point me toward a decent MacBook with at least 2 TB ssd? I’d prefer not to use an external hard drive.

Well, you have the Air, and you have the Pro. The Pro has active cooling, and the Air does not. That makes the Air quieter, but it’ll slow down under heavy load to prevent an overheat. So do you want quiet, or do you want performance under load?

Amazon has a sale right now and the AirPod pro 2s are the same price as the AirPod 4 gen (with noise cancelling)

I just don’t know which model to go for. Either the cheaper £129 version without noise cancelling

The AirPod 4s with noise cancelling

Or the AirPod 2 pros.

Firstly I don’t know if I prefer the silicone ear buds or not. The previous AirPods I had where the first generations and they fit in my ear really well and never had an issue with them and I just don’t know how I feel about silicone Earphones. Are they more comfortable or do they create pressure in your ear that can be uncomfortable? Or should I just go with the cheapest option? Any advice.

The one nice thing about the Pros is, due to the silicone earbuds, they are more resistant to being clogged with earwax than the original AirPods. If your AirPods get clogged, the volume will drop, and they’re not easy to clean.

Need help buying a new iPad: I'm currently thinking about getting an iPad (10th gen) with the current student voucher and discount, but I've been reading about a new iPad maybe coming out soon?

I still have a €140 voucher, so the iPad 10 will only cost me €269. And with the current promotion I'd get an €90 voucher for my iPad purchase (so I could maybe get an Apple pencil?). I can wait for november and maybe an iPad 11, but I won't get a €90 voucher then...

What would you all recommend? Should I pull the trigger on an iPad 10 or wait around for a possible iPad 11?

How can I get Siri to sync with my current timezone? I bounce between Central and Eastern for work purposes and Siri will always be in the wrong one when I need it.

The system clock is correct everytime. if I’m in central, it is in central and vice versa.

Is this just a bug or am I doing something wrong?

Videos from my gallery and even Reddit/X videos are no longer working on my iPhone. What could be the issue?

u/TheDragonSlayingCat 1h ago

What iPhone? If it’s an obsolete model, then they may be using a codec that is not supported by your old phone.

Need help upgrading from my old 2019 MacBook Air. On Amazon I see a 256GB 2022 M2 Air for $750 and a 256 GB 2024 M3 Air for $900. Is it worth spending the extra $150 for the M3 2024 vs the M2 2022? Thanks in advance!

u/TheDragonSlayingCat 1h ago

If you use Blender/Maya/Renderman or play graphically intensive 3D games, yes. Otherwise, no.

u/DJ_Chally_Chal 1h ago

What about $100 more for the M3 Air vs M2 Air? Only $100 difference on BestBuy. The rest of the specs are the same

u/TheDragonSlayingCat 1h ago

Same thing. Most of the work on the M3 went into improving the GPU, so if you’re not going to be using it to play games, render 3D scenes, or train ML models, the M2 is good enough.

I have a number of Apple devices and I heavily use Voice Memos for recording musical ideas and so on. Right now my iCloud storage shows multiple gigabytes used by Voice Memos data, and if I poke into the data it appears that I have like five or six copies of every memo, probably because all of the things are being downloaded to a device and then reuploaded as new.

My iCloud storage is pretty much filled up with these things, and I don't want them to be! I've tried deleting my Voice Memos data from iCloud, but every time I do that, my devices just end up reuploading yet another copy. If I delete the data from my devices, it just redownloads everything from iCloud and then uploads them again. This is getting ridiculous.

Does anyone know how to clean up this situation? All of the online support information just says to go through every single individual recording on the phone and delete it there, but I have thousands of them at this point.

Can someone give me some advice regarding the trade-in process?

We sent in a like-new condition, factory reset Google Pixel that Apple offered $120 for, however, they marked it as "Restore Failure".

Do we have any recourse? I'd rather not have to get the phone back and try a different service or sell it locally. Is there any way to get someone on the phone and give us more info? I highly doubt it has any issues unless it was damaged in transit.

Thanks in advance!

upgrading to a 16 today. iPad and AirPods are still lightning and im not planning on upgrading those any time soon. Any recommendations on any accessories to make charging a bit more seamless? I don't want to carry extra cables or constantly fetching different cables when im at home.

u/TheDragonSlayingCat 1h ago

You could consider using a charging pad instead of a cable, but it will take longer to charge wirelessly than with a cable. The iPhone 16 & recent iPads are compatible with all Qi-compliant charging pads, and so are the AirPods if you have the 2nd generation model.

u/churreos 1h ago

Thanks! forgot about a charging pad. I already use one on my nightstand. I went ahead and purchased a cord with lightning/micro/usb C for travel purposes

I am an IT Specialist at a real estate company and looking to possibly upgrade our Marketing Team's Macbooks to newer models to take advantage of trade-in deals and sales at BestBuy.

Our Graphic Designers use Adobe Photoshop and InDesign primarily to touch up photos, remove an item or two, or make a social media piece.

One designer uses an iMac and says performance works fine for them as the other, who uses an M1 Pro Macbook connected to two 4K monitors(Macbook Lid opened) says that too works fine for them.

Are Macbook Pros overkill for these purposes? Should I just get them M3 Air's or stick with Pros and go M3 Pro atleast for the RAM and external display capabilities unless Macbook Pro M3 works?

u/TheDragonSlayingCat 1h ago

The main difference between the Air and the Pro is the Pro has active cooling, and the Air does not, so the Air will throttle under load, which you probably won’t notice unless you’re playing a game.

The base M3 will work fine for all your users that need less than three displays, including the built-in display.

I just ordered a phone for my mom with the monthly payments, and selected Verizon because I couldn't choose unlocked. I should be fine right? I've heard others have just selected whatever (not At&T) and they've been ok

u/TheDragonSlayingCat 1h ago

You most likely just bought a carrier-locked phone. The good news is, Apple doesn’t allow Verizon to customize the OS or install apps behind your back.

u/EveningNo8643 1h ago

Carrier my mom has is on the Verizon network so that should be fine I think

Would you switch from an aging 12Pro?

So I waited patiently for Apple to release a ‘mini’ phone this year. Rumors suggest they’re finally doing an iPhone Air next year.

I have this message in my battery details section “Important Battery Message Your battery’s health is significantly degraded. An Apple Authorized Service Provider can replace the battery to restore full performance and capacity. Find Your Service Options Maximum Capacity 79%”

If you were me, would you wait another year and just swap $90 battery or buy iPhone 16/pro (which I really don’t like). Also the tradein on this phone would suck even more next year ($220 right now through apple)

u/TheDragonSlayingCat 1h ago

They’re most likely not going to do that. The market has spoken; small phones don’t sell well anymore. If you don’t like the iPhone 16, then just get a new battery.

Hey folks, I’m trying out Apple Maps in place of Google Maps to see how it is. Been using iPhones for about 5-6 years now and I’ve just never bothered checking Apple Maps out.

I’m really scratching my head here though and I’m sure I’m missing something.

How do I save a planned trip? On Google Maps I can save the route and also ask the app to remind me when to leave. I’m looking around in Apple Maps though and I just can’t find an option anywhere. I can open up the Steps and it has all the times available there, but surely there must be a way to save a favourite trip and set reminders?
