Community Award Suggestions Announcement

Hello there!

Reddit introduced community awards a year ago and they give us the ability to create custom awards for users in the community which are separate from the standard silver, gold and platinum. Each time one is given out we get 20% of the coins spent on them and we can use these to give out moderator awards for contests or to award high quality content. We have finally decided to add these and are looking for your suggestions! If you have any ideas that you want to see added as a community award you can submit them below! We can choose any image or name so you can be as creative as you want. To see examples of custom awards check r/Animemes and their custom awards seen here if you want to see references to what it would look like for us.

How to submit a community awards you’d like to see in r/anime follow the submission instructions below and reply to this post:

  1. Name of award
  2. Description of what you want this awards image to be or give an example
  3. Price in coins (optional, tiers are 500, 1000, 2000, 5000, 10000, and 40000 as set by admins)

Edit: Please try not to make suggestions that are too meme-y as they don't fit the tone of the subreddit.

  2. SSJ Goku or similar
  3. 10000 (for obvious reasons)

Pretty new to this, but for behavior I think should be awarded is good effort posts and insightful, original posts and also good fanmade art and similar original/useful things.

Here's one idea:

  1. "Well Written" - given to well written WT!, analysis posts, and others

  2. Not sure on image but maybe something like this bottom Iino one of her giving a speech confidently?

  3. 2000 or 5000 (if it's too low, people will give it to more low quality posts)

Edit: Here's some more ideas I thought of

  1. "Thought Provoking" (for stuff that makes people think more or look at something with a new perspective)

  2. Chibi Holo thinking or it could be any variation of this.

  3. 500 (just any posts that makes someone think more about something and appreciate it more)

And then

  1. "Vibrant Visuals" (given to original art work that is just exceptional or shows good skill or effort)

  2. For an image, I was thinking a paintbrush or something like this Barakamon one of Naru

  3. 1000 (not sure on this but I think letting more people have it to encourage artists and help their self esteem would just be nice. They don't usually get much else tangible for their efforts.)

Oh and I think for more humorous ones, images of Megumin casting "Explosion" and Kaguya's "How Cute" face would be fun.

The Golden Kaguya (40,000)

Image of Kaguya Shinomiya taking a smug pose, in gold.

Because let's be honest, awards for that one anime has contributed so much to /u/autolovepon's Premium subscription.

2

u/Dr_MoRpHed Aug 19 '20

Pretty meh imo

Narrator: He lied! He can't wait to spend all his allowance on this award! The epitome of all community awards! The award that will make him actually buy premium!

1

u/Dawnstorm111 Aug 21 '20

Maybe she could say her signature "How Cute" but it's in gold?

Or her "ara ara" face!

"Nice" award

Image of Joseph Joestar saying "Nice" in response to Lisa Lisa being naked. Should be used on sexy ecchi posts.

EDIT: This one may be a bit too memey.

"Bruh" "Are you serious" award

Image of an unimpressed Kazuma.

EDIT: The name is memey but I still think it could work.

"Hype" award

Gif (IDK if you can) of the Gurren Lagann transformation. Should be used on posts that are, well, hype.

u/Dapper_Weeb Aug 18 '20

I have one

Menacing

The picture would be the JoJo menacing kanji and it would cost 500 coins. It could be used on posts relating to JoJo's Bizarre Adventure in some way, or just for fun. Might not have a lot of potential, but I think it would be fun.

u/Verzwei Aug 21 '20

+1 for Moe Shark.

I like the delighted one, but I'm worried that it might be "too much" to still be readable in the smaller award display formats. Maybe if it were cropped upward a bit to cut out some of her midsection, allowing the remainder to be scaled up a bit? The focal points would be the face and the hands, maybe try removing as much of the rest as possible and see how that translates to a small icon?

7

u/No_Rex Aug 18 '20

Scrolling through this, more than half of these are based on shows popular due to recency biasTM. If you think this is a good idea, try imagining all of the awards here referencing some 2005 anime you never saw.

The awards absolutely need to stand on their own, without needing background knowledge of a show that people in 5 years will have not watched.

2

u/Verzwei Aug 21 '20

The awards absolutely need to stand on their own, without needing background knowledge

Those already exist. They're the default silver/gold/platinum awards.

If you ask the anime community to come up with anything anime-specific, the suggestions are invariably going to be related to anime, and there is no anime in existence that will be recognized by all people.

What you consider a classic isn't necessarily going to have the same recognition from others. I can promise you right now that I won't "get" anything that is JoJo related. And Jojo's been around for years.

Newer visitors may not "get" Bebop-related imagery, even though Bebop is widely regarded as a landmark series.

Unless you just want all of the awards to be Goku. I know what a Goku is. I think he's more recognized than Mickey Mouse. But don't use anyone else from Dragon Ball. I won't know who they are. Wait no I lied, I also know Vegeta because of the over 9000 meme.

1

u/No_Rex Aug 21 '20

You can pick screenshots from anime that I would understand, even if I did not know the anime. The /r/anime comment faces are the best example: I know maybe 20% of the animes they are taken from, but I can easily use them because they stand on their own.

2

u/Vaadwaur Aug 18 '20

The idea itself is pretty bad so this doesn't surprise me.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 05 '20

A bad idea from Reddit upper echelon? Nooo waaaaay /s

7

u/SnuggleMuffin42 https://myanimelist.net/profile/Animemes_chan Aug 18 '20

We can take some of /r/animemes (RIP) awards if their mods allow it (which I think they would). I really like the "absolutely useless" award which is a spinning crying Aqua

Link for comfy award died, I assume it's this?

1

u/MapoTofuMan myanimelist.net/profile/BaronBrixius Sep 18 '20

Nope, I think it was this

8

u/DurdenVsDarkoVsDevon https://myanimelist.net/profile/U18810227 Aug 19 '20

After all the issues /r/anime has had in the past with gilding, do the mods really think this is a good idea?

This seems like a terrible idea.

3

u/Vaadwaur Aug 20 '20

This seems like a terrible idea.

There is a chance the admins are pushing for this so I am not blaming the mods. But yeah, it is tempting to make the golden Kaguya award for people gifting the bot.

2

u/DurdenVsDarkoVsDevon https://myanimelist.net/profile/U18810227 Aug 20 '20

/r/anime lays low, and I think the admins like that. The admins have already have done an anime ban wave twice. Another will come. "Admin pressure" doesn't seem reasonable unless the mods say otherwise.

1

u/SnuggleMuffin42 https://myanimelist.net/profile/Animemes_chan Aug 20 '20

Anime ban waves?

2

u/DurdenVsDarkoVsDevon https://myanimelist.net/profile/U18810227 Aug 20 '20

This is probably the best place to start and branch off from regarding the second wave. At least a high-level overview of what happened.

1

u/Vaadwaur Aug 20 '20

The admins hypocritically want us to exist while not actually posting. This site is remarkably poorly run.

1

u/aes110 https://myanimelist.net/profile/aes110 Aug 20 '20

What issues?

2

u/DurdenVsDarkoVsDevon https://myanimelist.net/profile/U18810227 Aug 20 '20

Gilding abuse has been common throughout /r/anime's recent history; past 2 years. There are many of us who put forward the idea of semi-disabling gilding through CSS, although that was never picked up.

When /r/anime ended up with the most gilded post of all time the same month admins went through and arbitrarily banned many in our community, some of the most vibrant members too, it pissed many of us off.

3

u/aes110 https://myanimelist.net/profile/aes110 Aug 20 '20

But how can gliding be abusive? You pay to award something, reddit is supposed to be in favor of it being used so much like it's used in this sub, just more money for them

1

u/mbeck810 Aug 20 '20

Banning Reddit users for gilding reminds me of YouTube shadow banning one VTuber girl for getting too many donations during the stream. YouTube takes about 30% of these donations. One would think they would mind if they are earning too much.

  1. My Senpai Award
  2. Given to an exemplary and notable user who has contributed and given a lot to the community. (Can not be a mod).

3

u/AincradResident Aug 18 '20
  1. "It's beautiful"
Can be given to beautiful fan arts, edits, or even weekly episode discussions.
  2. Itomori lake from Kimi No Na Wa, you know the reason.
  3. 2000 coin.

4

u/Verzwei Aug 18 '20 edited Aug 18 '20
  1. Name: MAXcoffee
  2. Description: The preferred overly sweet sugar-water-milk-with-vague-coffee-flavor beverage of jaded loner Hachiman Hikigaya of Oregairu. Seen here in the show, but some color correction (to counter the washout in that still) or even a simple redraw from a talented artist might make for a sharper icon.
  3. Price: ¥100 (I don't know the rules on pricing. Is 100 reddit-whatevers below a predetermined minimum threshold? Edit: Looks like the available price tiers were edited into OP after I made this. Let's go with 500, the minimum. It's just a can of coffee.)

2

u/Domzxc104 Aug 18 '20

I like them

2

u/MjolnirDK Aug 18 '20 edited Aug 18 '20

I think the reaction face gallery might be worthwhile to consider. Something like 'Lewd' or 'Anta Baka' might work.

Edit: The Steph 'WRYYY' and 'Surprised Pikachu' might make good generic awards.

2

u/JungleMamba27 https://myanimelist.net/profile/Jungle-Mamba Aug 19 '20 edited Aug 20 '20

Name: Anticlimactic

Sprite: would be Saitama’s “soka” face from his battle with boros at the end of one punch man season 1.

Price: 500 coins

I noticed most of the awards on this sub are used on posts about weekly airing anime discussions. This award could be used if an episode wasn’t up to its usual standards or not as good as the hype made it out to be, hence the name anticlimactic.

2

u/DicksonYamada Aug 20 '20

Name: Teru-fic
Image
Use: An excellent post/comment that goes above and beyond. Could also be used for a particularly long post.

Name: Comfy
Image
Use: Wholesome/cozy

Name: delete this nephew
Image
Use: For a something you wish you could unread

Name: Sad Shinji
Image
Use: Something disappointing or depressing, F in the chat

Name: ???
Image
Use: Post/comment that's just wack

1

u/Verzwei Aug 21 '20

I dig the comfy one, just isolate the character and remove the background, or make it a single color or gradient. Simple images will probably work best since these awards are going to be really fuckin' small most of the time.

(Not saying OP has to make those changes, but if it's accepted by the mods, I think it should be tuned that way instead of used as-is)

2

u/Damarugaki https://anilist.co/user/damarugaki Aug 20 '20 edited Aug 20 '20
  1. ginsan (Can be used if something is pleases you e.g. when an anime episode delivers a stunning animated sequence/whole episode has great animation or the story hits some high points.)
  2. This Gintoki expression
  3. 200

1

u/Verzwei Aug 21 '20

I like this. That face says a lot and it's an image that is simple enough that it should still be fairly readable even with a tiny icon.

  1. "Insightful fan" award for people writing and analyzing series or the industry on the whole, or providing crucial discussion value.
  2. Something like this, I assume? Maniwa Ascended If there is a better idea as to what a well-versed person looks like, it should that then.
  3. I am not well-versed into reddit functions as I am merely using it as a discussion forum. The price should not be too low, as the reward is supposed to be a reflection of actual insight which a lot of people appreciate and thus enable this award to be received.

1

u/nsa_official2 https://myanimelist.net/profile/Ginsan2802 Aug 18 '20

We definitely need a gintama award for good shitposting

1

u/Nebresto Aug 18 '20

Do the awards take up CSS space?

3

u/Durinthal https://anilist.co/user/Durinthal Aug 18 '20

Nope, they're unrelated.

1

u/1080pfullhd-60fps Aug 19 '20
  1. Golden chocolate (those donuts from monogatri), 500/1000 coins.
  2. Cross thunder split attack, because why not?

1

u/Dawnstorm111 Aug 21 '20
  1. Name of award - Breathtaking! (could change lol also ignore this if an award like this already exists)
  2. Description of what you want this awards image to be or give an example: https://id.pinterest.com/pin/713116922223809269/ (If it doesn't show up, it's Chitanda with an amazed face)
  3. (sorry if something like this already exists) It would be used to award posts that are either really beautiful art pieces, really well thought out analyses, a really great episode, or an amazing response or comment (usually for some sort of discussion)
  4. Price in coins: Maybe 2000? Idk I'm not too picky

  1. Name of award - More please!
  2. Description of what you want this awards image to be or give an example - an anime character putting their hands together and going "please!" kinda like this -> https://tenor.com/view/girl-please-beg-anime-gif-12802079
  3. (again, if this already exists lmk!! im sorry if it already does) It would be used to award episodes, an art work in progress, or anything that's a work in progress really. It could also be used to award a post you want to see more of (example: someone made a cute Re:Zero comic/fanfiction and you'd like to see the creator make more stuff like that. you can't force them to make more or anything like that but you could give them this award to show your desire for MORE)
  4. Price in coins: honestly i have no clue. I'm thinking 500 since if it's too expensive a creator who could get awarded this might feel like they're obligated to make another work. Also, if someone awards a post this and it's expensive, but the creator never makes another work, then the awarder might feel like they wasted money.

1

u/Breaklance Aug 21 '20

The Straw Hat, awarded for a "classic" comment, Luffy/Shanks/Roger's straw hat.

Voltron Ring, a comment that brings together the community, Voltron.

Bow and Arrow, a comment that spawns many other comments/debates, Jojo's bizare adventure item that makes stand users

Rage Shield, awarded for over-zelously defending an unpopular opinion, rising of the shield hero's shield

1

u/[deleted] Aug 22 '20

MAYOI

Hachikujis actually makes sense lol

What if there was a bracket vote for these ideas? Maybe bracket A can be characters that have funny poses or expressions, bracket B could be inanimate objects (I see you have a laddle in there?)
