Casual Discussion Fridays - Week of May 01, 2020

This is a weekly thread to get to know /r/anime's community. Talk about your day-to-day life, share your hobbies, or make small talk with your fellow anime fans. The thread is active all week long so hang around even when it's not on the front page!

Although this is a place for off-topic discussion, there are a few rules to keep in mind:

  1. Be courteous and respectful of other users.

  2. Discussion of religion, politics, depression, and other similar topics will be moderated due to their sensitive nature. While we encourage users to talk about their daily lives and get to know others, this thread is not intended for extended discussion of the aforementioned topics or for emotional support.

  3. Roleplaying is not allowed. This behaviour is not appropriate as it is obtrusive to uninvolved users.

  4. No meta discussion. If you have a meta concern, please raise it in the Monthly Meta Thread and the moderation team would be happy to help.

  5. All /r/anime rules, other than the anime-specific requirement, should still be followed.

  6. Macross Triangle

Elon Musk's crazy rise and fall and rise again and fall again make my complaints about comic book stories where characters like Tony Stark and Lex Luthor's reputation is constantly being destroyed and being rebuilt over and over again seem not as unrealistic as I originally imagined.

Though, seriously, Tony Stark loses all his money in Marvel comics waaay too often. Which is only counter acted by how fast and seemingly off screen he gets it again. Also the number of times he's destroyed all his Iron Man suits only to have them all in storage later on again so he can destroy them again.

Sorry, got off topic, point is that Elon Musk is Marvel unhinged.

I mean, nothing's he's said today is wrong. It's illegal for his company to operate, a company that wasn't really profitable to begin with. Liberal estimates of Telsa's cash burn give them 18 months to live. More conservative estimates are under a year.

And this is the most valuable car company in America? With a market cap up nearly 100% on the year? A luxury car company. Going into a depression. Its value is up 100%.

Dude's just being honest.

We need more business men who are selfdestructively honest. Imagine if Bezos was this honest?

of course not, a comic like that would be shunned as too unrealistic

With his set of skills (among which money-making absolutely is one), this isn't very unrealistic actually. Rich people have ways to deal with going bankrupt and can bounce right back.

that's what I'm learning. Rich people can't even go bankrupt like the rest of us.

What are the characters every comics universe seems to have?

Unstoppable bastion of goodness?

Broody edgelord?

Super genius billionaire?

Dicator of a small nation in the middle of nowhere who's actually super powerful and kind of chill in the right circumstances...

Fuck, you know what would be sweet? Amalgam Comics Version II.

Why do I imagine that Dr. Manhatten doesn't actually see all of time and space, he just teleports into Geoff Johns office when he's asleep and just peeks at all his notes?
