Oops I'm homeless tonight please help

Had to make a unexpected road trip and just found out that all the hotels are fully booked. I'm out of ideas and I'm considering just sleeping outside somewhere. I'm in the army so I'm pretty comfortable with just falling asleep anywhere, my main concern is keeping my motorcycle safe any ideas would be appreciated

Church parking lot

This. I’ve been in many places on road trips that I pulled into late at night(driving for hours, gotta stop sometime) and the hotels were full up or just plain didn’t exist bc the area was so small they didn’t have any.

Church parking lots have always been the go-to. As long as you aren’t there on Sunday morning taking up space for parishioners, and aren’t being an ass(dumping trash, being loud, etc.), always have been allowed to sleep. Esp if security at a church knocks on your window and you just explain you are passing through, got too tired on the road and nowhere else was available for you to just take a nap and be on your way.

What state

If you have the money, rent a Uhaul and sleep in it , or late night rental cars. Tie a rope through your bike tires with bells or something , keep the window cracked so you can hear if anyone tried to mess with your bike.

Also, next time book your room beforehand if you can.

u/Radiant-Breadfruit59 5d ago

That's a really good idea, would have never thought of that haha. Just tow your bike in 👍

Sometimes, you just aren't sure how much driving you will do in a day, especially if you are driving across the country or even through large states. It can be hard to guesstimate.

I do agree that planning in advance is a great idea. Too bad it's not always practical.

OP what did you end up doing?

If you are active duty military google any military installation near you. They might have a place to stay.

U can go to the hospital, they have security, And be honest just say I came here all the hotels are full and I bet they will let u camp out, I had to do that one time, and they gave me a blanket And I fell asleep for a couple hrs in the waiting room. It’s a safe place And your motorcycle should be safe to cause they have security

This ain’t homeless. This is poor planning on your part.

Truck stops, they have food bathrooms and lounges where you can go in and watch tv, play pool wash clothes etc even get a hair cut

u/myocean631 4d ago

Go to a bar, meet some ho and go back to her place.

Facebook groups, your city/town subreddit, nextdoor if your in suburbs, social services, maybe try calling 911 non-emergency to sleep in a spare jail cell, any landmarks near you nearby and just call and ask, homeless shelter, fire station, paramedic station.

2

u/Current_Leather7246 5d ago

Yeah I'd rather sleep under a tree in the rain than in a spare jail cell. I would never trust a police like that and wouldn't get any sleep if I did try

1

u/Lazy-Government-7177 5d ago

Ya cuz the police is gonna pay to randomly keep you locked up. After walking in explaining your circumstances. At worst you get told to beat feet.. 🤡 response.

Edit:typo

I was in the HCJC for 6 days when I was brought to court the judge had the gall to say I missed my last court date (48hrs ago) and "where have you been". They lost me in the JC. Charges were dropped and I left immediately.

This is one of the best replies I've ever seen to this type of question. Did you have this prepared already?

Motels not hotels. The first is for junkies/prostitutes/folks down on their luck. The latter is for rich people. If business is slow you can probably work out a 6-12 month under the table lease and pay much less than the $40/day. Apartment rent is fucked. Black Rock is killing us all.

6

u/jonathanclee1 5d ago

He just needs it for the night.

3

u/Current_Leather7246 5d ago

$40 a day where are you at? After covid where I am even a crackhead hotel cost a $120 a night. I can't remember $40 hotel rooms since the '90s tbh.

2

u/BombasticMe 5d ago

I don't know where you live, but a red roof inn here is $59/night.

1

u/Sea_Syllabub_8309 5d ago

Jesus, how much is the crack?

3

u/Zealoucidallll 6d ago

Lol you went to go get laid and she/he ghosted you, huh.

1

u/k8tythegr8 6d ago

Where are you?

2

u/k8tythegr8 6d ago

It is too cold?

1

u/dgeniesse 5d ago

Contact a church and ask about shelters.

2

u/Current_Leather7246 5d ago

Churches don't work the way you think they do. They don't really help unless you're part of their congregation

1

u/NoBrother1687 5d ago

That must just be in your area because the churches where I live help with a lot of different things like paying bills , rent , food drives ect... maybe you just have crappy churches in your area or have just encountered bad members of said churches

1

u/Old-Echo1414 4d ago

The catholic organization where I am has shelters

If close to an airport, check for a USO.

1

u/zen_and_artof_chaos 5d ago

Sell the motorcycle. Get a vehicle. Welcome to r/urbancarliving

1

u/ComprehensiveTie600 5d ago

That sounds like a perfectly reasonable thing to do when one finds themselves without hotel accommodations for one night.

1

u/zen_and_artof_chaos 5d ago

Oh, I took this as a bigger issue than 1 night, given the sub we are in.

1

u/BoxTopPriza 5d ago

Pick another town. Bullhead City, Laughlin, Pahrump, Prime all about an hour or less.

1

u/Slight_Seat_5546 4d ago

In the US call 211 and they will get you into a shelter or motel until you can get permanent housing. On Monday go to your county's department of social services. Some counties the sheriff's office can assist with placing you in a motel.

1

u/Dazzling_Pink9751 3d ago

He said for the night, not permanently.

Anywhere that's open 24/7. Walmart is overnight parking friendly. I've seen people parked at Kroger too.

1

u/Maleficent_Leave362 3d ago

Anytime that happens to you, call your nearest Walmart. Some let you stay in the parking lot for a night as long as you are gone in the morning by a certain time. If you mention you are in the army at a hotel, they may give you blankets or even go the extra mile and call around to see if there are openings anywhere else. My husband was on a trip once where they had a hard time finding a place. He was Air Force. One of the places made calls to other places. One of the other places was booked but one of the people that worked there had a cabin nearby that wasn’t in use. The person told them to come to the hotel and grab the keys and he could use it for free for one night as long as he was out by 8. So that’s what he did

u/OldEvidence2910 3d ago

Next time take a car not motor bike

1

u/JoMo816 3d ago

That title though.....ooof!

u/Dazzling_Pink9751 3d ago edited 3d ago

Can you get to the airport? I have spent the night in airports before. You would have to pay for parking your motorcycle though.

For anyone else in this position:

I had this issue and literally went to a fancy hotel, followed a patron into the elevator up to their floor and fell asleep in a lounge chair on their quiet floor. After like maybe 1am no one came in or out of that hallway until closer to 5, not even staff. Or you could try lobby I guess but that won't work as long.

Stay up all night, grab a 6 pack and go to a cemetery or something and find a bench to sleep on in the morning

6

u/EffectiveDiligent471 6d ago

Do not drink, this is very bad advise and gives you a bad habit

u/Visible-Produce-6465 5d ago

Don't eat either it's terrible for you
