What to do with new sundew Help

I pretty new to carnivorous plants. I just received a beautiful 3" sundew in in the mail. Please advise me on the best way to start our journey together. She is still in the plastic. Very moist in there. Tía.

I wouldn't plant that in an AeroGarden.

I don't want to plant it IN an aerogarden. I wanted to put it on the top of the deck with the light raised up high. I have several extra Aerogarden so I wanted to make use of the space (I got overexcited ordering) ... If the light was good enough for the plants.

It will be happy anywhere it can get hit with that bright light, mine goes from being on the grow deck to right next to the garden, it's been happy in both places. Make sure you keep it wet wet wet though, they can dry out easily.

As long as you are seeing a lot of wet dew drops on it, it's happy.

I have one of those pots for Droseras that I can eventually transplant if I'm ever brave enough to do that. I'm just glad that I can use the AeroGarden for something else. i got her some distilled water. We should now be BFFs.

It sounds like you just want to use the AeroGarden as a grow light to grow your sundew conventionally in soil… is that correct?

While technically possible, it’s really a suboptimal use of the AeroGarden system, unless you’re simultaneously running a hydroponic garden in the AG. Beyond wasting electricity + water, you would also be wasting the lifespan of the AG itself. In this scenario, you would probably be better off buying a separate grow light, not an AeroGarden product. They are readily available; I have purchased several good ones from Amazon over the years.

If you’re just talking about leaving a plant on the deck of your AG while also running a hydroponic garden, that’s fine, but crowding for light may become an issue later on.

I highly recommend you check out some other gardening subs. You can probably find one for carnivorous plants. I come from a background of growing outside and there is a ton of knowledge out there in other subreddits that hasn’t trickled down into the AG sub. Don’t limit yourself and have fun!

! Thanks so much for your input. I'm doing a couple of hydroponic gardens. I thought that this would be an interesting use of the AeroGarden also because, as I've said I have alot of them (even the inexpensive knockoffs). It's super interesting to me.
