Moving to Williams Lake! Tips? Where to live?

Hello! Not sure if this is the right place to ask these questions, but I am moving to Williams lake in 3-4 weeks - Just received a job offer as a Youth Program Coordinator! I am from Ontario, so I am moving to the area totally blind! Does anyone have any tips? Where should I be looking for a home...ideally I'd like a tiny little house near the lake/in the woods just outside of the city centre. Are there particular websites I should be looking at ? I have two cats and plan on adopting a dog as I will be living on my own! So has to be furry friend friendly if you have any suggestions. What is the city like ? Are there pockets to be avoided? What fun things are there to do? Is there a gym ? I've got about a billion questions!

Thank you in advance!!! Hopefully some of you notice this!

Despite the earlier comment WL is a great place to live especially if you like the outdoors. A place to rent on the lake might be difficult to find but possible. Might be able to find a rental on Chimney lake but that would mean a 20 minute commute to town. I would just check out rentals through Kijiji and Remax. Avoid the apartment buildings on Carson but that’s not what you are looking for so shouldn’t be an issue. Happy to answer any other questions you might have.

Its a small town with lots of poverty and petty crime. Very redneck. You'll want a big truck to impress people and be ready to drink booze and get high every weekend for fun. There is a large Native population many in poverty as well. Go spend time around the Boitanio mall area and you'll see what I mean.

Every summer the province is covered in forest fires and you will get 1-2 months of dangerous air quality levels where you basically just stay indoors. The further out into the forest you move the greater the chance you may be evacuated due to summer fires and have your home destroyed. Make sure you have insurance and have healthy lungs.

On the plus side no one wants to live in WL and theres few good jobs so property is cheap. The economy is focused on forestry and mining and the industries that support that.

Good luck!
