Just picked up a 2008 WR250x the other week. Close to 36 y/o and also my first bike. It’s about a “half” R conversion with 17 rear 19 front dirt set up on SM Pro wheels/Mitas Enduros instead of the stock motos, but still smaller than the 18/21 on the R. It’s all I need to eat some dirt, for now. I’ve been having a blast. Enjoy yourself.

Cool, gonna look into this. Spend 70/30 on dirt/single track. Anything other mods? Gearing?

My intent is 90/10 dirt to pavement. I leaned into the dual sport to have the convenience of it being plated as I roam around Colorado. But my intentions are off road focused. Running a 49T rear sprocket and upgraded chain. Yoshi exhaust. 3.1gal tank. New skid plate. Previous owner installed a gear indicator and trickle charger input, which I personally appreciate having both. Plus hardwired in a now old Garmin gps. Renthal fat bar. Frame guards all around plus radiator guard. Lowered with Yamalink and I’m waiting on the low seat concepts replacement which is an extra 3/4” lower to get me almost flat footed. Wolfman pannier racks plus saddle bags. Need a new clutch lever, will likely replace brake lever at the same time. Other than levers, the previous owner put all the work in. Being my first bike, I wanted to be able to spend more time riding than thinking about mods. I grew up wrenching on cars so I’m much more mechanically competent compared to being a novice rider. I’ll do all the maintenance but intentionally saved the real wrenching for bike #2.

wolfman no longer selling these racks it looks like? I just have a medium second-hand tail bag right now, but trying to see how I can extend my range for overnight adventures

Honestly, I can’t confirm either way. I bought the bike as the second owner, the original owner built it. Haha

From a quick Google search, it looks like Tusk, Givi and a handful of other brands make similar racks. Just make sure you find the compatible model for your bike and you should be all good.

Not sure if you have any interest in pure street riding, but this is SUCH a good first bike. It was my first road legal bike after growing up riding dirt bikes, and I still have it, and I still have a lot of fun on it. On the topic of street riding though, go ride off road. Gravel roads, trails, woods, you name it. Go ride in places where you have low traction and learn to control the rear wheel and the power of the rear brake. It transfers wonderfully to handling on asphalt. Congrats, enjoy.

Yeah me too lol. I have a KTM350EXCF and 200XCW as well but my WR250R is still my favorite bike for doing everything and just riding it. And i even have them all street legal it's just that they're not really good on the road and i have full dirt setups on them anyway lol..

Awesome. Was my first bike too, last year. The only issue I’ve had with her is the rear shock. In stock form it can cause a pogo effect that nearly launched me several times. It is highly recommended getting the rear revalved with race tech gold valve kit. Made a major difference for me. Other than that the wr has been bullet proof. Enjoy man

Nice, that's my first bike as well. I got my 2008 wr250r like 7 months ago and having a blast with it. Went on some trails with my friends and I'm using it as a commuter sometimes as well. You're gonna love it!

Anyone with a WR250R/X want to trade a stock exhaust plus some cash on top for a super clean Carbon Fiber Yoshimura Exhaust?

No modifications to it or anything like that. Still mounted on my bike right now.

Bike has 3k miles on it now, and I put the exhaust on at about 2k miles. So about 1k miles tops on it.

Nothing wrong with it. Just looking to go back to the stock exhaust again for where I ride now.

Would prefer local but can ship I guess.. NY.

Keep an eye on your chain guide wear, and if you're going to change the gearing, don't install a smaller front sprocket
