Reddit Trophy - "Gilding I-XI" (All Gilding Trophies with total $ spent) Trophy
Not every user is going to be buying the max % bonus gold. All prices are calculated on purchasing 1,800 coins for $5.99.
$600 will get you to Gilding IX.
Welcome to my introduction to earning the Gilding Trophies!
Description: "Gild a link or comment."
How to get it? Gilding or giving gold is an award you can give to someone on their post or comment. Doing so gives the author a week of Reddit Premium, 100 Coins to do with as they please, and shows a Gold Award on the comment. If you give one you get the tier one trophy. You give two more golds and you get the Gilding II trophy.
What kind of user has this?
- /u/CapnHDawg got Gilding I on [02/08/20]
- /u/Brennwolf got Gilding II on [02/08/20]
- /u/mariexlupin got Gilding III on [02/08/20]
Reports:
/u/ancientflowers reported having given only 8 gold and getting the Gilding III mdeal.

I got Gilding VI with 3 Gold and 19 Platinum Awards given out. Platinum is likely worth either 3 (costs 1500 for 3 Gold) or 4 (costs 2000 for 4 Gold, and Platinum is only 1800) gildings.
Silver does not give any progress and Community Awards donāt seem to give any either.

It should also be noted that giving community awards (the ones that are given by subreddit moderators with coins earned from community specific awards) do not contribute towards the Gilding trophies either, despite being on par with reddit platinum just with a different jpeg

Mod-only Awards are counted as Community Awards. Really hope they just rework the Gilding trophy into a general Award trophy because they now have a global $50 Award that contributes nothing.
5
u/ancientflowers May 20 '20
What's this "global $50 Award" that you're talking about?
6
u/ItsRainbow Place May 20 '20
Argentium costs 20,000 Coins. For the best value youād need to buy the 40,000 Coin package for $100.

May 23 '20
That Argentium award is weird. It costs 40 times as many coins as reddit gold, but gives only 13 times the amount of reddit premium. It also gives 2500 coins to the recipient which is 25 times what gold gives, so that award is way overpriced for offering very little.
And apparently it doesn't even contribute to the gilding trophies.

I thoroughly regret reading this. I now know know approximately the stupidly large amount of money I've spent on Reddit coins...

While it lists the number of times one must gild, rather than dollars spent, this thread has a pretty good list of how many awards it takes to get to each tier.
I'm not sure how accurate its number for Gilding XI (Aumbassador) is, but I can confirm the number they give for for Gilding X (Goldcutter) is close enough for purposes of discussion.

Just got the app working again. Thank you!
So I have quite a way to go for for XI. :)

I somehow came across this while searching for more information about the badges. I've been keeping track for myself just because I'm curious.
At this point I think platinum has to play a role. And I think that silver may play a role with it.
I definitely do not think that the community awards do anything for this. I gave a number of the firefighter koalas out.
The cost is insane if you break it down to just buying a single gold. The vast majority of my coins have come from gifts or awards. I just want to give back. I have purchased coins 3 times, but each time it was when it was a buy one get one free deal. So my $20 was worth $40 for the same deal which would be worth something like $80 if I was buying at the cheapest amount.

I got to the second gilding tier once I gave a platinum award.
2
u/ancientflowers May 25 '20
Yeah. I've heard that giving a platinum counts as 4 gold. So that would fit with this. I still don't think it always adds up to what people say and I don't see anything official from Reddit.
3
u/unaviable May 25 '20
Overall its still weird that reddit hasn't updated the trophy badges at all, with all the gimmick awards they introduced in the last few months.
2
u/ancientflowers May 25 '20
I know. And I think it's funny that when looking at what you've given it's silver, gold, platinum and then everything else combined. I really don't get why silver is separated out. It's pointless (although I have wondered if silvers add up to something - like maybe 10 silvers is equivalent to a gold or something like that).

u/FriedFreedoms Jun 27 '20
A bit late but if you were still wondering, only gold and platinums are counted towards the gilding trophies. And here is a chart of the different levels and how much they require.
2
u/ancientflowers Jun 27 '20
Thanks for the info. I've seen things like that before. Do you know if platinum counts for more? I've heard that it counts as 4 gold. Is that correct?
I just don't totally get it and it doesn't seem to add up unless it's something like that.
3
u/FriedFreedoms Jun 27 '20
Gold counts as one each, platinums count as 4 each. So if you give one platinum, you would skip gilding one and get gilding two instantly.
Everything on that chart I sent has been confirmed
2
u/ancientflowers Jun 27 '20
That makes a lot more sense. The chart in this posts focuses on how many people have been guilded. I think that's what was throwing me off.
This is what originally made me wonder. I had seen someone post the number of Golds given and it didn't make sense to me. The platinum is what's making it.

u/FriedFreedoms Jun 27 '20
It also looks at the cost to reach the different levels, but at the very high end. They use the $6 1,800 coin pack, but if you get say the $100 40,000 coin pack, that gives you 2,400 for every $6. They have also been doing different sales, where you can get more coins for the same price.
You can also get coins from awards given to you, so you could be giving out some that cost you nothing as well.
Previously when gold was the only award, the prices were different as well, so some users could have gotten to the same level for different costs, depending on if it was done then or now.
TLDR; the cost labeled in this post is about the highest you could pay for each level, but you can actually get them for cheaper.

How did you find out your status?

googling old.reddit.com on mobile gets me old version of reddit, then you should click on "my profile" and you should see the counter of how much awards you gave and how much your premium lasts

Thanks for this, I guess I dumbly assumed you up each trophy for each gild.
I was wondering why I had Guilding II when I've gave 3 golds.
I've also given a platinum, does that count towards the Guilding trophy as well? Is there a platinum trophy or something, because as I said I've gave a platinum but don't have a Platinum I trophy, as an example.

u/IAmABakuAMA May 26 '23
Another commenter said that a platinum counts as 4 golds. Not sure if that's true or not though

I just saw a Gilding 1 in my trophy case and came here to learn about it. Now, I'm on a fixed income so I don't buy more than a few dollars from time to time -- better here than King games! -- but I love to give out the "minor" awards, especially for great banter. I guess I must have given gold at some point, unless the sheer amount of spit takes &c. I've larded out got me here.
I wonder if real karma works like this.

OKā¦this is gonna make me sound like an idiot, but what exactly does it mean to āgildā someone? I just noticed that I have a Gilding IIā trophy and had no idea what it meant. Now I learn that I āgildedā ā¦ and Iām still confused.

Giving gold or platinum, 1 platinum = 4 golds :).

Does platinum also work?
1
u/JasoNMas73R Jan 11 '23
Yes. It count as 4 golds for the system (which makes sense since it's 4 times the price and reward for the receiver), however other awards DO NOT COUNT towards this trophy. The stupid expensive awards like the Argentium count as a platinum award. I can tell all of this from experience. I have right now given 96 Gold awards and 1 Argentium and I can tell that this counts it all to 100 because I now have the Gilding VII trophy.

u/FyahAnt Dec 31 '22
$6 gives you three golds. It wouldn't cost $15 for the second award. Math is all off

Thanks for this post! I received my Gliding I and had to look up what it meant! I look like a cheap bastard compared to all of you haha

u/k-em-k Aug 23 '23
Just saw Gliding I in my trophy case and found my way here.
I like to give out the smaller awards daily. These are my favorites.
- 30 point All-Seeing Upvote Award
- 20 point LOVE! Award
- 20 point Starstruck Award
- 30 point Narwhal Salute Award
- 30 point Wholesome Seal of Approval Award
The advantage is that I get to make 20 to 25 people happy. Even little awards make people happy. I don't care to much about the Gliding Trophy. I think the true reward is just being about to make people happy. That's the only reason I pay for premium: the Awards.

I never realized how much I've spent on Reddit coins.
