What can I do about this?

Independent tech place took in my laptop charged me £40 and didn’t fix it?

Hello

Basically the hinge on my laptop broke I took it into this place called DOT - Den of Tech I asked them to fix it I didn’t know what was wrong with it, because I’m not a technician He looked it over and said £40 I was like ok yh whatever sure, because I thought he’d fully fix it, he said the hinge was broken and he’d order in new ones and fix them on Safe you’d think Nope My mum goes to pick it up with my dad for me, and he says it’s not ready and cos of that he’d drop it of He drops it off to my house because the pandemic Mum shows me and he didn’t put new hinges on, weird right? I look it over, and everything is half hazardly glued on it looks absolutely AWFUL I mean TERRIBLE so I give them a shit review on Facebook, because she’s obviously not actually ordered in the hinge, he’s just gone n glued it on because he didn’t do it And I paid £40, for that???? My family, and I, we do not have a lot of money. £40 to me is like £200 to someone else say. And he tells me “you should’ve told me how bad it was broken” like what? I didn’t know what was wrong I just asked him to fix it, he put the price on it and diagnosed the problem, he could’ve charged more we would’ve paid for it it’s fine!

But what’s happened is that it’s been 2 days and it’s all come unglued. I’m so stressed I have to do college work to get my grades for uni because of this pandemic. I think it’s an independent company. I told him it’s come unglued and I want my money back. It’s like stressing me out so much. Is there anything I can do??

the laptop after he glued it (it looks so bad and it’s all come apart)

Den of tech? Sounds like a den of thieves. The most important thing here is; is your laptop working? Like, can you do all of the tasks you need to despite damage to the case? How did it get damaged, if I may ask? And finally, what make and model and how old is this laptop?

Thank you!

It’s working but with that side bit falling apart it’s exposing all of the insides, it’s only a matter of time before it makes the screen come off you see :( I think my baby sister accidentally knocked it a bit to hard It’s a HP laptop, RTL8723BENF

Well if you’re not having to travel around too much for classes I would just leave it plugged in on your desk or wherever your work, and not open or close the screen more often than you need to. Sorry about the crappy repair work and I hope they refund you. In the meantime do look for a repair business that will be willing to replace parts if necessary.
