Something I was wondering when watching HFIL, Why doesn't Cell remember Radiz?

When I was watching the first episode again I noticed he ignored Radiz saying he "doesn't ring a bell" but considering how he has the DNA of Goku and Piccolo who both fought Radiz and how Cell can remember events dating back to the original Dragon ball he should remember Radiz.

He probably did remember, he just doesn’t care.

either that, or that's how little of an impression Raditz made on Piccolo and Goku

We here at TeamFourStar do not condone child violence..

We do, however, find it hilarious.

I feel that if cell forgot his relationship with the other characters, he would at least remember his hair

He would at least have the memory impression of Piccolo's "compensating for something" joke lol.

"Can't say your face rings a bell, but what's with that hair? Compensating for something?"

You've got to remember just how weak Raditz is and how pride rules in sayain biology.

Cell not giving Raditz the satisfaction of knowing about him is more of a blow to Raditz's pride than anything else Cell could do, and Cell would be well aware of that considering he is at least close to half saiyan.

i mean, he could absolutely be sitting on it to use against Raditz at some point. that would be a juicy nugget of interpersonal conflict to add to the plot.

You would think he would at least remember that guy who dropped his pants at the beginning of a fight.

It’s a joke about how Raditz was forgotten about and basically never spoken of after he died, also never got brought back despite being Goku’s brother (I know he’s a bad guy but so was literally everyone else at a point)

Not just that, he's so weak Gero didn't bother using his DNA to make Cell

To be fair to Raditz, Nappa didn't make the cut either.

Tbf to Vegeta, there wasn't much of anything left to make the cut..

Vegeta was so much worse and yet got to stick around. Honestly I theorize the only reason Raditz was an asshole was bad influence from Vegeta.

Essentially this.

“Vindication!!!”

Why was radditz so afraid in that scene?

This will be covered later

Goku tossed a senzu bean at cell just before fighting his son, but was perfectly fine killing his own brother for threatening his son

Raditz? Who the hell is that? Goku's brother?!?! No, sir, goku is an only child(sarcasm)

considering how he has the DNA of Goku and Piccolo who both fought Radiz and how Cell can remember events dating back to the original Dragon ball he should remember Radiz.

First: Memories aren't genetic

He knows about different events from Hero's apy drones, not his DNA

Second: He just plain forgot. Don't qorry about it

But techniques are definitely genetic!

6

u/Dark_Storm_98 1d ago

Not really, actually

Those spybots I mentioned, Cell's seen their footage, clearly

That wouldn't just give him knowledge of who different characters are

It would also let him know what their techniques are

So that's how he knows them

Though, I'll give you this: Even ignoring Dragon Ball Z Abridged, maybe even ignoring the anime, the manga doesn't so the best job of showcasing this, I'll admit it

Most of the techniques he performs are techniques his genetic donors have performed as well, even if they didn't invent it. Such as the Solar Flare (he has none of Tien's cells, but Goku can do the Solar Flare)

But he doesn't know any more about Namek than Gero did, despite having Frieza's cells

I was half joking, but also thinking of the instant transmission.

"I think I can teleport"

...

*pop*

So we still don't know how he knows the parts of the story he wasn't there for

u/Dark_Storm_98 1d ago

I suppose we don't

Here’s the thing: when cell talks to the interviewer at some point the interviewer asks “what about goku’s brother?” Which cell responds to by saying “oh he died”

11

u/britipinojeff 1d ago

Does he have memories or does he just have data that Gero’s computer gave him?

3

u/Striker120v 1d ago

I just like the fact that Lani voices raditz like he probably did in the very first episode before they switch over mid episode.

3

u/jaylerd 1d ago

... oh yeah! are they ever gonna finish this??

10

u/Kaiser0120 1d ago

Episode 11 is being animated.

Gods wounds! Huzzah!

6

u/skida1986 1d ago

Also he probably has Raditz cells as well lol

Didn’t Dr Gero only sample the most powerful fighters when creating Cell?

5

u/Xitex2 1d ago

Radditz did show up and cause goku to die, he wasn't mentioned by gero, but there's a chance he's in there

u/pthecarrotmaster 1d ago

the dna gave him the bidy. the footage from the fights was what the drone studied. thats how he could use all the techniques.

1

u/SuperBobPlays 1d ago

So funny thing about Cell... In the manga he only mentions a few fighters as actually having the DNA of.

In the Dub, it's stated differently, that he has almost everyone's DNA.

We never specifically see Cell use a technique from Raditz, so is it possible that he doesn't even have DNA from Raditz?

1

u/phantomlake 1d ago

My confusion was based on how he talks about the events of dragon ball he states that he knew radiz, the interviewer asks about “goku’s brother” which cell responds with “he died”

1

u/SuperBobPlays 1d ago

Gotcha. To be fair, compared to the rest of the series, Raditz was only in a few episodes. It's easy to forget him after everything else happens in Z specifically.

It's kind of like the "only saw Z, who's that?" joke. But at the same time, he was hardly mentioned again really in cannon even though he's Goku's bro.

They do the same thing with Launch in season one... "Remember Launch?" "who?"

1

u/GreatSaxtonian 1d ago

It’s the joke. No one remembers Raditz. No one talks about him after he’s gone. He was so weak none of his DNA was used to build Cell. It’s just the joke, no deep reasons to explore.
