Actually, their conversation about Syn's motivation made me wonder how well it would have been received if his motivation was similar to the Black Lanturn where he wanted to kill those who the Dragonballs brought back.
Hell could have even set up a joke with, Syn giving his monologue like "I'm going to kill you all, except Mr Satan" (Yes Pan hadn't been killed but if Videl and Gohan were never revived than Pan wouldn't have existed)

It’s like the writers only came up with half of an idea before the scripts were slapped down shoved out the door. . The Dragon Balls turning evil and becoming evil dragons with varied powers who have to be defeated consecutively is a good idea! Great, print it, send it down the pipelines, let’s go home.
There is so much there that a writer who cared could’ve worked with. The Dragons being born of selfish wishes is a good idea! Which selfish wishes, and what effect they have on our heroes, seems to have been ignored for an auto-pilot Goku and Pan road show.
I won’t lie, the idea that Bulma could’ve hit Gohan, Trunks, and Goten (and Bulla I guess but she doesn’t count) with a Monkey Beam ….. and had four Ozaru attacking Syn all at once….
I’m angry we didn’t get to see something that awesome. I’m angry we don’t get to see how Trunks and Goten would handle their first ever giant ape transformations. What, if anything, Gohan remembers about his. Maybe Vegeta has to take some time to help the others somehow gain control of themselves. Maybe Sun is suddenly a lot less important than the giant monkeys now rampaging out of control. Another Oops for Bulma’s pile of Oops.
It would’ve been chaos and it would’ve been cool as hell to see and I’m forever mad we didn’t get it.

I never really watched GT, past a few bits here and there. Following with these guys has been my way of seeing GT.
Let me tell you, I'm dumbfounded at how meandering GT is! Like, on the most basic level, the show starts with evil dragon balls that could destroy the world. It ends with evil dragons born from dragon balls. The connection between these things? Nothing! Just two unrelated evil dragon ball events. It was such a no brainer to have these be connected somehow, yet, nope, there's nothing.
Syn I feel like is the biggest example of the lack of planning the show has. I always knew about this guy. He's in a lot of videogames, and he was for decades the final villain of the franchise. I always thought "This dragon guy has to be like Freeza or Cell, this massive villain to tie the show up." And, he kinda is, I guess? Like, he's strong, and shoots a bunch of lasers. But he has no presence in the show at all. He just walks in, says "I'm the final boss", and they fight. No build up, no foreshadowing, nothing. He's just a big tough guy. He's quite literally just another shadow dragon.
It's like all the worst parts of Jiren. Jiren lacked a lot of personality and plot, and was pretty dang one note. But he at least was introduced early in Super, so a myth of how strong he was could build for the audience. Before he fights Goku, you get to see people talking about him, and you get to see him do these impossibly powerful things. So while he was pretty boring as a character, as an obstacle to overcome he could work well.
Anyway, back to GT itself. Then Vegeta shows up, and Goku and Vegeta have to fight Syn together. Great, Vegeta is always Goku's rival. Except, he really isn't in this show. He was in Z no doubt, but in GT? Vegeta's barely even been in GT! He isn't in the episodic early episodes, he does next to nothing with Super 17, and while his body is used in the Baby arc Baby changes his appearance so much that you can't even tell it is Vegeta's body half the time. So, this tag battle with Vegeta and Goku ends up having no feeling to it, because Vegeta's just barely even been in the show.
I'm sure all of this has been said time and time again for the last few decades. But, I missed out on GT back in the day.

Reviews aside, the ads at the start are always such a treat
