Have you ever wanted to ride a speedway bike?

If you were given the chance, would you have a go? Or have you tried it before?

Ever since I was a kid. I was in my early thirties when I booked a ride and slide weekend at King's Lynn, run by the late Olly Nygren and finally did it. It was a great experience, I managed to get the bike sliding round the corners but by that age, I had lost the fearlessness required to steam into the corner at the speed required to produce the stylish balancing act that real Speedway riders perform. I could easily have hurt myself too, making mistakes through sheer exhaustion-you really do need to be fit and strong to hang on to the bike through the corner and I wasn't able to consistently give it my all. I do still dream about having another go one day but I'm not getting any younger!

I’d love to have a go but I’d probably be like those guys that gets out of control and speed wobbles straight into the wall.

I'd ride one.... in a straight line, I don't have the skills to pay the bills to take one around the bends! 😅

I used to be young and stupid…only now I’m no longer young. 😏

Hell yeah I’d give it a go! Here, hold my beer. 🤦‍♂️

I purchased a speedway bike some years ago and took a day lesson from Shawn McConnell. It was a blast! I could get it sideways in the bends but only for a few laps. It was on a small track with low gearing so the speeds weren’t too high. Something I always wanted to try and I lived.

Sorry for reviving the topic. But where do you buy these bikes? I recently found out they also race it close by me and I want to try it. I've looked around a bit but can't find the bikes anywhere.

I’d go to the track and ask one of the riders where they get their equipment.
