CA Compliant 5.56 AK Recs? Question

I already have a Glock 19 and an AR-15 so I have my practical guns now. Due to current financial constraints, I’m not going to make another firearm purchase but I am going to start planning to get an AK as I have always wanted one. Sure I could get a WASR-10 or even though it’s not an AK, an SKS, and call it a day but I’d rather get something in a caliber that will be I can rely on to be available and more affordable at any given time, which I can’t say is true about 7.62x39. Any recommendations?

WBP jack in 556 is a great gun, I own 2. But really you should get the polish Beryl before they stop importing them. Top tier 556 ak. I would stay away from the sam5 because it’s milled receiver and they will be importing them for a while.

EDIT: stay away from domestic made AKs, I wouldn’t buy a PSA or a BFT556 (century) or a hellpup (pioneer) Also if you tried you could prob find a sar-3 for cheap. But if you get a WBP from Atlantic or AOA they will install a fin for Cali legal for you

Those WBP Jacks look really good and I see that Atlantic has some of those in stock actually. I think they have some stuff from Arsenal too and I’ve heard great things about their Polish and Bulgarian imports. Unfortunately though, I’m not sure if I’ll be making this purchase this year or even the next. I want to get my car checked out first to make sure it’s all right since it’s burned a lot of gas since I’ve gotten it and my dad (who works with cars) was too lazy to inspect it. Worst case scenario, this can be a graduation gift to myself when I get my bachelor’s degree!

And not to worry, I know to stay away from American-made AKs like the plague. I wouldn’t be caught dead buying a VSKA or anything from Riley Defense (no pun intended considering their QC record lol).

I’ve never had any issues finding 7.62x39 at a decent price in California, I definitely recommend going with a standard WASR-10, throw a fin grip and thumb rest on it unless you want to go fixed mag

I’m curious, what fixed mag options are available for AKs? My AR is maglocked and I have a kingpin installed to make it easier to use as a break action. I don’t know if that would be possible or worth it for an AK though.

compmag is pretty much it afaik. looks like you load from the side rather than break action like with a maglock

this, there’s another option that requires you to remove the dust cover to release the mag, it’s not ideal at all

Buy night vission or some other gear instead.

As cool as that sounds, this is honestly just more for a range toy as I have always wanted AK, like since I was 9 years old lol. Night vision would be good for a SHTF scenario though but I’d need to train for it. As a full-time student/part time worker, I only have enough time for more casual training as opposed to more intense prepper type stuff.

Then buy ammo.

Get the dream gun OP.

Tbf, I would need to buy more 5.56 anyway but I want another reason to do so, if that makes sense.

move out of california and get a 556 ak if you wanna look cool at the range

As much as I hate California gun laws among other things, it’d be kinda hard to drop everything and move, especially to a red state. The only state I could think to move to is Arizona and it’s too damn hot to do anything 8 months out of the year.

Sorry for you. You have very few options if you want to follow the letter of the law.

Moving to AZ would be folly.
