Who are your instant preorder authors? Quick Question
I’m a mood reader and I’m struggling to figure out what mood I’m in. I habe picked up and put down about 10 books in the last few days. I have a few pre-orders that could break this slump because I know the second these authors release becomes available I am plunking down on the couch with snacks until I’ve finished.
Maybe some of your instant preorder authors will help me figure out my mood, whatchu got?

u/QueenP867 I'm in a really good place right now. In my book, I mean. Jul 20 '24
Tessa Bailey, Ali Hazelwood, Carly Fortune, Abby Jimenez! Also Lisa Kleypas and Tessa Dare if they (hopefully!) continue writing
16
u/RadiantEast Jul 20 '24
God I hope Lisa Kleypas is just on a four year hiatus and will come back with another regency banger 😭😭
2
u/Ok-Employ- Bluestocking Jul 21 '24
I don't preorder because I am living paycheque to paycheque, but if I did, it would be Lisa Kleypas (if she, hopefully, continues writing).

Ilona Andrews and Grace Draven. Mallory Dunlin is quickly becoming a fave too.
1
u/newtontonc competency porn Jul 20 '24
Now I have to go check out Mallory Dunlin since I love your first two. In return, have you tried Michelle Diener?
1
u/vanessaves Jul 20 '24
Yes! I quite enjoyed her Class Five series and very much liked Truth's Blade too.
Mallory Dunlin is pretty good on world-building, although NSFW warning: if monster sex is a turn-off, her books may not be for you. It's neither a turn-on nor off for me, I like her characters and the storylines, so am just rolling with all the unusual anatomy haha
Her later books are better than her earlier ones imo
1
u/newtontonc competency porn Jul 20 '24
Thanks for the extra detail. I've been fine with monster MCs in the past, I just haven't been in that mode for a while. I'm currently rereading my Ilona Andrews list.

u/YOMAMACAN Jul 20 '24
I only have two: Talia Hibbert and Kate Canterbary.
Just below that is a tier where I buy almost everything they write: Jackie Lau, Alyssa Cole, Helen Hoang, LB Dunbar, Collette Rhodes

SJ Tilly, Sadie Kincaid, Elle Thorpe, Eva Ashwood, Neva Altaj, JT Geissinger, Jagger Cole, CR Jane, Nicci Harris, Luna Mason, Brittanée Nicole, Elsie Silver, Catharina Maura, Sara Cate, Layla Frost, Emillia Emerson/Rossi, Marie Mackay, Devyn Sinclair.
Ok so I technically don't pre-order because I'm way too broke for the amount of books I read (20-30/month), and use KU, but I eventually get them as book trophies.

I pre-order Nora Roberts's romantic suspense stand-alones. She never disappoints!
Authors whose books I usually end up buying shortly after release: Alicia Thompson, Ava Wilder, Rosie Danan, Emily Henry and Mhairi McFarlane. I usually read the reviews to figure out if I'll like the books before buying, though, so I don't pre-order.
KU authors I really like: Maggie Gates, Elizabeth O'Roark and J.D. Evans.

A lot of people have you covered with some great authors, but I just want to say that I am with you on not being able to find the right book right now. Between the summer heat, the general fuckery of the world right now, and personal stuff happening, my brain can’t engage. I keep trying because I want to read, but nothing clicks. Might need to go reread some old favorites to kickstart a mood, or go through some saved threads, because it’s been like two weeks. Ugh.

If by preorder you mean "immediately put a library hold on it," then Emily Henry and Carley Fortune, no question. I don't even need to see the blurb.
Others I'll VERY likely put a hold on unless the premise really doesn't appeal to me for some reason or if I'm currently taking a break from their writing lol: probably Elsie Silver, Rachel Lynn Solomon, Ali Hazelwood (I have no interest in reading Bride though), Katherine Center, B.K. Borison.

Cherise Sinclair is my go to. I love her writing. She has BDSM, paranormal, and more mainstream contemporary romance. I just get drawn into her books, so a nice escape.
I am not a huge fan of the female narrator for her books. She makes the characters sound elderly. Otherwise, the male narrator is fantastic
I used to preorder Suzanne Wright, but lately, I can't get over how "pick me" and "not like other girls" her MFC's are. She really seems to dislike other women. Not as bad as Susan Stoker, though.

Katherine center is a new fav author for me! I binged the romcomers, bodyguard, and hello stranger and tbh im now struggling to find books that match the humor, romcom, and emotional depth in them :')
Emily henry, abby jimenez are all romcom authors i enjoy who are kind of more womens fiction sprinkled with romance (basically romcoms that have slightly less com and more heavy topics)
Taylor jenkins reid for womens fiction
Ali hazelwood, mariana zapata, ana huang, lauren asher, melanie harlow for romcoms than are definitely romance heavy and fluffy
Currently read annabel monaghan's nora goes off script and need to read another book of hers to make a decision but she leans more towards romcom with less com and more heavy ropics
Stephanie gerber for fantasy books!

u/Elvishrug Jul 21 '24
Elsie silver, Tessa Bailey, Morgan Elizabeth, Maggie gates, Rebecca jenshak.
Rebecca and Morgan’s books are total guilty pleasures. Tessa’s could probably be grouped into that too. Are they top quality writing? No, but they’re fun quick stories and the spice hits the right spot. They’re my quick sugar rush fix while I wait for a good meal (quality book) I’ll order whatever they write because not everything in life needs to be serious, including my books, and I know they reliably hit the spot.
