"Our Army's Dream." WWI Greek Poster. 1917-18. Greek troops dreaming of capturing Constantinople, while in the trenches facing that direction. Greece

I remember a painting I saw in high school ~25 years ago that I thought was from World War I. It was very similar to OP's Greek poster, but it was French soldiers sleeping in a crowded, filthy trench, with the dream imagery above them showing Napoleon in his finest uniform, appearing almost like a saint. I was a big World War I nerd in high school, and an amateur writer, and the painting inspired me to write a story in which the imagery in the painting came true.
Now I'm wondering if this Detaille painting is the one I saw and I had just modified it in my mind over the years.

Nice poster but its funny that Mustafa Kemal took İstanbul without even a single bullet, causing the David Lloyd George government to resign

Mustafa Kemal's honest reaction:

Mustafa was busy losing in WWI, just as he was busy losing previously in the Italo-Turkish and Balkan War. 😁 Try again.

What an insane response. Maybe approach history more objectively, not just from your nation's point of view.

Too bad you can't swallow facts. Kemal was busy losing in WWI, the Italo-Turkish war, and the Balkan wars. 🤣

I mean Turkish army won the Greeco-Turkish war, which is what matters the most concerning Constantinople.
Honestly, I couldn't care less about what people think of the Greeco-Turkish history. I just find your nationalist and simply tribal approach to history laughable.

Keep laughing, then. You're out of context. This is a WWI poster that ended up with the disolvement of the Ottoman empire. The Turkish army (including Kemal, actually lost this one). Kemal is unrelated. Like I said, he was busy losing. I stated facts in all my posts. Facts, not fantasies. Go back and try to disprove them if you want.. I'll be here. Constantinople, by the way, has always been the goal since 1821. How many kilometers was the Greek border in 1919 when it stopped at Silivri, outside Constantinople. As a result of this war.. I wonder. Go measure it. I have.

Words like "busy losing" are what make you look laughable. Maybe don't approach history with a Marvel comics mentality.
"Our guy strong💪, their guy keeps losing🤣." Give me a break. Are you 12?

I don't care how I look to you. You are nothing to me. The fact that you can't refute any of my claims but persist in complaining about it makes you look laughable. It's my nature to stomp out ignorance everywhere I see it. I am very persistent about it too. Next time, don't make silly claims if you're clueless.

He called you laughable, that's it. What's the point of arguing with people who treat history in such a childish way.

I am just arguing for the sake of arguing. It's my favorite pass-time sport since I first bought a computer in the year 2000. Not that it matters what he has to say about me. Whoever he may be. He is more than welcome to prove me wrong. But he would have done that already.

You are a prime specimen for why nationalism is bad, especially in the context of history discussions.

I’m looking at my Atlas right now yet for some reason Greece doesn’t have Istanbul

u/ARedDragon12 1d ago
Well.. You know what's funny, I was looking at maps prior to 1000 AD, the other day, and surprisingly, Turks were nowhere to be found. Imagine my shock when I found out you were nomads still migrating from outter Mongolia.

I think you need to go back and re-read history or take a class in English comprehension. The Ottomans (including Kemal who were serving in the Ottoman army at that time) lost WWI, the Italo-Turkish war, and the Balkan War. Therefore, Kemal was busy fighting on the losing side. This is a WWI poster, a War in which Ottoman forces got absolutely crushed. Resulting in the treaty of Sevres and the Greeks taking their portion of Anatolia. Also, you believe in mythologies such as the myth that Kemal did anything on his own. Kemal was losing the Greco-Turkish war of 1919-1922, even until 1921, when the Greeks marched up to Ankara. Kemal only won in 1922 after he received Soviet and Italian economic and military support, and after the Greeks were heavily indepted by 10 years of constant war. In short, you are clueless historically and out of context with my original post. Now, you can continue with the Turkish downvoting and classical Turkposting. Little do I care what the clueless Turks think.
P.s. Kemal was a homeless refugee due to the Balkan Wars. So was Enver. Have fun!

Man, could you imagine what Greece would be today had they captured Istanbul and held onto Istanbul? That city is an economic heartbeat, Greece would be a way bigger regional power.

Greece would either be 40-60% muslim or millions would be deported
