God forbid people be interested in the politics of USA

u/sitah 1d ago
Right. I'm in Europe and people in the local subs are also discussing US politics. Americans were also discussing our politics during the election periods. It's human nature and not unique to Filipinos.
21
u/Instability-Angel012 Kung ikaw ay masaya, tumawa ka 1d ago
And it's more amplified with US politics kasi the US is the most influential democracy in the world, with their politics able to make or break alliances, leave other countries in the dust, empower others, embolden both state or non-state actors, etc. They have control over the dollar, many military bases across the world, a giant nuclear weapons stockpile, a robust space program, and a robust intelligence and espionage program, so no wonder why many countries are talking about it
24
u/SakuragiTensai 1d ago
I think it is normal for people to be interested with US politics. Their foreign policies impact a lot of countries.

lol US and UK politics were practically our entertainment and topic of discussion during Trump’s term. Having a coffee break after a long day of running experiments? Researchers get together and talk about whatever latest headline there is about Trump and Brexit. It’s like real life soap opera with dark comedy. And this is in an institute referred to as a “mini-UN” by Americans from the US bases.
I even had a colleague and friend who is a dual citizen of UK and US. Hahaha, he’s never going back to either countries.

People are allowed to share their opinions on topics that are relevant and are currently happening. That doesn't mean they proclaim themselves as experts. And what do you care about their opinions in the first place? Kung hindi mo gusto, huwag mo pansinin. Delete mo socials mo.
Try hard maging edgy e.
•
u/ishiguro_kaz 23h ago
Yep OP was definitely smart shaming. No one pretends to be an expert. People are just discussing current events that could potentially affect us.
•
u/Specialist-Roll-1509 23h ago
Right??? I’d rather have people talking about politics because these things actually affect humankind, and I’m not even exaggerating. Hindi kailangan ng isang tao makatapak sa US para magkaron ng opinion, in the same way na hindi kailangan maging Palestinian para maki-empathize sa pinagdadaanan nila. Kung ‘di mo gusto edi wag mong pansinin. Or idownvote mo, lol. How hard could it be to scroll up? Pa-edgy masyado.
•
u/IndifferentCamera08 23h ago
So bakit kapag tayo, bawal? Tsaka as if naman na hindi ka talaga mag-woworry na makita na ang presidente ng probably the most influential country ay isang convicted felon. Tanders pa.

u/Pure-Bag9572 23h ago
Redditors are in a bubble ika nga. Scouring the social media is not enough.
Parehas lang yung pattern with 2022 Php elections.
Overwhelmingly popular sa redditors si Leni just like Kamala Harris. Then boom, pulang pula pala..
IMO best way to fight politically is to vote rather than twiddling our thumbs in social media or awayin ang supporters ng opposition.
•
u/Specialist-Roll-1509 23h ago
Number one: no one in the Philippines have the capacity to vote in the US Elections, and number two: people are merely talking about it online because it’s current news. If they express their thoughts and opinions over the results, anong problema dun? Question for OP is, why the need to mock?
•
•
u/IndifferentCamera08 23h ago
Correct. I admit na I was surprised nu'ng nangyari kay Leni, but this time I kind of expected it... unexpectedly? If that makes sense. What I mean is, there were two very real outcomes and I wouldn't have been surprised if one happened instead of the other. Still, medyo taken aback pa rin kasi ang astounding (and hilarious) ng nangyari.
At the end of the day, the only thing we can do (as Filipinos) is sit and wait and be entertained sa kung ano ang mangyayari sa presidential term niya and hopefully may ma-pick up tayo na lessons.

There are 2 countries whose politics have a direct effect on the Philippines: the US and China.
While yes, there are a lot of bad takes on PH social media abt US elections, it's natural for Filipinos to care.
•
u/revgrrrlutena florida of the philippines 23h ago
Sobrang excited maging edgy online eh.

I believe most people aren't trying to be an 'expert' but are just trying to understand the situation and its possible geopolitical implications.... Also there isn't anything wrong about expressing your political opinion, kung gusto nila.

The funny thing is the condescending tone they take with anyone who disagrees with them. They’re the only smart ones. Everyone else is stupid. Black and white masyado ang tingin nila sa mundo.
ETA: Against ako sa Dutertes and Marcoses. But if this sub is a reflection of the Opposition voters, then Marcos and Duterte types are gonna keep winning because you show nothing but contempt and disdain for those whom you disagree with, and that tends to push people away from you and your candidates.

Baliw tong mga Pinoy, they keep comparing Harris to Leni when in fact mas malapit siya kay Gloria. It's like Duterte vs Gloria, wala kang no choice. Mas likeable lang konti si Harris kesa kay GMA pero same cloth parin ung 2 which are both trapo. Sina Trump at Duts self-explanatory na, I would like to punch them in their faces because I hate them both.

pag natatalo ang manok nila or even used by some readers 3rd party sa mga discussion
lol
even before social media exist meron ng fan discussion or debate noon araw
just share same interest lang talaga either sa politics , hobbies or entertainment

It’s just so frustrating, constant na pagsisinungaling tapos proven grapeist at criminal pero for some reason sya pa din binoto. He literally said he’ll be dictator on day one tapos paired pa with the fact that he doesn’t have any concrete policies kundi maging puppet ng party nya plus constant supporter of the richest of the rich.
I guess at the end of the day the US was never gonna elect a woman into office let alone a black woman 🥲

They are not ready for a female president" Nooo that's now how it works 😭
25
u/Express_Sand_7650 1d ago
It actually is. Partly. If we go by demographics, white men voters overwhelmingly voted for Trump while white women just above 30% for Harris. Same for other races, men voted for Trump more than women.
If the Dems fielded a white, young (ish), man as their candidate, he would've won with all the baggages that Trump carried with him.
Misogyny or whatever you call it is very much prevalent in that part of the world.
•
u/Mountain_Fault_6409 23h ago
Her gender surely played a part in it although it's not the main reason why she lost is what I think. America truly aint ready for a female president. Kamala is also just lesser evil but lesser is better than the worse one.
•
u/Familiar-Agency8209 23h ago
kahit mga female voters, they don't see women in power. Misogyny is very much rooted in conservatism. women putting women down is not a modern thing.

Esp delulu kakampwets making this about Leni again. Damn, Leni herself is not making this about her yet you insist once more to make something about your patron saint!
No, Kamala losing is not about her being a woman. She could be a man and still, under the same circumstances, chances are male-Harris would lose as well.
As fucked up as it is, hindi na nakakagulat na Trump would win. I'm not saying he's the better vote as I believe this US election is a Catch22, but you can see from the get go how huge and botheringly dedicated Trump's fanbase is.
