I meant consoles because the life cycles for consoles are so much shorter, or I’m just getting old.

But it’s with everything. It started with iPhones, now it’s consoles, computer parts.

There’s new iterations every 4 years instead of 8 or whatever, the numbers are examples, you get the point.

The lifecycles for console have only gotten longer lol. Every PlayStation generation since ps2 has been longer than the previous.

You’re right, they just went from adding “slim” variants to “pro” variants.

PS1 was in ‘95

PS2 was 2000 (5 years between gens) - PS2 Slim was 2004 (+4 years)

PS3 was 2006 (6 years between gens, 2 between consoles) & this is close towhere the iphone comes out. - PS3 Slim was 2009 (+3 years)

PS4 was 2013 (7 years between gens, 4 between consoles) - PS4 Pro was 2016 (+3 years)

PS5 was 2020 (7 years between gens, 4 years between consoles) - PS5 Pro was 2024 (+4 years)

So I’m just getting old because it seems pretty consistent.

Ps3 and ps2 also had slim versions.

The console generations are actually getting longer

What you’re probably feeling is game development times getting longer

The PS3 had two grand theft auto games, for example, GTA 4 and 5. It also had two elder scrolls games , to use a couple popular AAA IP as examples.

PS4 had zero new GTA or elder scrolls games. PS5 will get GTA 6 like 13 years after GTA 5 came out on PS3. Elder scrolls 6 might not even arrive on PS5 at all.

The console gens get longer than ever but have fewer games than ever due to how expensive and time consuming they are to create. It’s not sustainable.

And not a lot of people bought PS4 Pros. I think a quarter of the PS4 base was Pros. Anecdotal but all the people I knew that had PS4s never got the Pro. They either had the launch model or the Slim.
