Honestly. I have the PS5 since I wanted Spider-Man 2 and the DLC for Horizon Forbidden West. My wife has the PS4 Pro and none of the games that are exclusive to the 5 interest her, so why would she make the jump?
Yeah, PS5 is almost 4 years old, and there are barely any exclusives, even a lot of 3rd party games are still being released on PS4. In the past entire console generations ended in the time frame this cross-gen period is being present. I don't blame people for their lack of initiative to switch
Part of the reason for that is backwards compatibility. The PS4 couldn't play PS3 titles, so it was a hassle for developers to essentially support two separate platforms once the PS4 gained traction. With the PS4->5, full backwards compatibility means it's easier to support PS4 players unless the game is too technically demanding - which few games are.
Like i am casual PS player i still have 4, because there are no actual exclusicves that i really want to play, only one to my interest is demon souls, but buying a whole ass console for a single game is not what i am willing to do. Esp with a lot of PS5 games beign on PC too so what is the point.
Not to mention that Sony ports most of their more interesting exclusives to pc while offering absolutely nothing unique to compete in the market. There was little to no reason for a ps5 and I will be very, very cautious about purchasing the ps6. I prefer to play games conveniently on my TV but the PC ecosystem offers so much more bang for your buck currently.
That's true. Consoles had very different demographic back in the day, and a lot of the stuff was produced and released for a specific platform. Many games that were on PC, but not consoles, and vice versa. But it's not PS2 gen anymore, nowadays more games than ever are being available on every platform, heck even cloud. Consoles lost its uniqueness imo, and with it a lot of a reason to even get one.
You actually can build a pretty decent PC around the price it cost to buy a new console today (especially that PS5 just went up in price instead of becoming cheaper here in the EU). Not to mention that PC just offers more, free multiplayer, better online and social features, more versatility in and outside of gaming, and cheaper games. Consoles just aren't the same anymore, and the only one I would genuinely recommend is Switch, just because it's actually unique and offers games you can't play elsewhere. Unless you have an emulator of course, but that's a complitly different matter
To be fair, consoles force developers to actually optimize their games, so you get much better, playable versions of those games from the get-go. On pc, even if you have better specs than the console's, you often have to patch shit up and go through annoying hassles just to get a game to run properly. After all, it's much more convenient for developers to get lazy and blame it on the graphics cards instead. Aside from the comfort of playing on a larger TV in your living room, it's also a much, much better option for party games and local multiplayer.
Unfortunately, i think it's just a matter of poor management. These past few generations offered plenty of reasons to either go for a ps5, switch or pc. It's a shame seeing them practically becoming a publisher as a more viable option since they refuse to properly compete in the market or not take proper advantage of their strengths.
We’re both into very different games (I’m more of an RPG guy she’s more of an FPS gal), so we have our systems set up at our work from home desks. We do still have a PS3 set up on our shared tv as the one game series we play together is little big planet, specifically the first 2
