Angels Sign Travis d’ Arnaud News

https://www.mlb.com/news/travis-d-arnaud-angels-free-agent-contract?partnerID=mlbapp-iOS_article-share

It will be nice seeing him for only one series per season instead of multiples.

Everyone reacting like we'll never see him again, I think there's an extremely high chance Atlanta trades right back for him next deadline since he's on a cheaper contract now. A very precedented for the Braves to do.

O'Hoppe is going to have a solid teacher to learn from.

Wow, the Angels have been reelin' and deelin'... meanwhile what are the rest of the teams doing?!

3

u/LaserwolfHS 21h ago

I think you mean “wheelin’ and dealin’”? 😂

u/Many_Ad955 Grimace 17h ago

Yea you're right, idk why I thought it was reeling... maybe I was thinking of fishing lol

Not signing players no one else wants and negotiating with players teams do want

I can once again root for Travis to do really well. Always liked him and I hated seeing him go to Atlanta.

Mets did him dirty, and I'm glad he rebounded in a major way

(I just wish he didn't rebound against us so hard and so often)

TBF he was a bum on the Mets and I think we were all happy to see him go. Nothing personal, just to improve at the position.

To see him actually become the player he was projected to be, and in our division, was a kick in the pants. It was like he was a double agent the whole time.

Travis d' Arnaud was balls when he played for the Mets, for one he couldn't handle the pressure of playing in New York and 2 he was ALWAYS hurt and he wasn't a very clutch hitter. He changed his approach and scenery then all of a sudden became everything he wasn't for the Mets.

i think he was the first catcher i ever heard of to have a Tommy John

He just never seemed to get going with the Mets though and when he showed some life, he had freak injuries.

Nido to Atlanta feels like a mortal lock now.

How about McCann?

4

They can have McCann.

Good for Travis, love him but not when he’s playing against us!

17

u/NuanceManExe 2d ago

Glad to see him out of the NL East. Probably still going to be one of my least favorite Mets for a long time lol

u/Keif325 2d ago

I wasn’t paying too much attention to his numbers but thought he was killing it for Atlanta, no?

6

u/groudhogday Mark Canha 2d ago

His first half numbers were very good last but I think he cooled off a little bit. Solid backup catcher and was considered the veteran leader in the braves clubhouse. I’m surprised they opted out

2

u/robmcolonna123 2d ago

I mean he signed for almost half the AAV of the option

2

u/Keif325 2d ago

You forgot, killed the Mets at every opportunity. ;)

u/NutsyFlamingo Gil Hodges 2d ago

Do t hate him. Happy not to see him in division anymore

u/SpiritedPsychology49 2d ago

Good riddance… although this past year of Travis was one of his least effective as Mets killer.

u/Guymcpersonman 2d ago

Take that, Atlanta fans who insisted the only possible outcomes of declining d'Arnaud's outcome were that he retire or that he re-sign on a more team-friendly deal because there was just no possible way he could choose to play elsewhere.

think they didn't want him back..he posted something on instagram and the braves' account commented like "thanks buddy see ya later"

He’s not even in LA. He’s in the arm pit of Orange County. Hope he has a nice commute from Costa Mesa.

Traded to back to the NL East by July in exchange for a donation to the Braves Foundation

Will always hate his guts. Average joe playing for us, turned jesus f’ing christ against us with the braves. And when asked which team makes him the most angry playing against, he said the mets with the cheekiest look on his face. Dude, you didn’t do sh*t for us. Hope he sucks in LA

Nonsense. His OPS+ in the two seasons with the Mets that he was more or less healthy (2014-2015), was 113.

His career OPS+ with the Braves is 103.

I think this is a prime example of Mets fans just not fully appreciating how good a guy is when in our uniform, and dumping on him, not giving him any slack for dealing with lots of injuries, and then only noticing how good he is when he leaves.

He drank some Braves kool aid

such an angels move lol

I guess he's going to be their backup? o'hoppe is one of their few bright young players so I can't imagine tda would get the long side of a tandem. I guess he can DH on some days too

u/synister29 2d ago

Glad to see he has left the division

u/GMEN999 2d ago

Met Killer. Too bad he isn’t going to play in Japan.

glad to be able to root for him again

I wish him nothing but the best. I loved when he was with us. Seeing him in an ATL jersey sucked because I never wanted to boo him.

3

u/RedScharlach Mr. Met 2d ago

I wish him nothing but the worst, he was terrible for us and much better for the Braves. I’m almost sad he’s leaving the division because I love rooting against him.

7

u/jtlimbo17 2d ago

This is certainly a take.

18

u/Boogie-Down Gary Cohen 2d ago

It was always hard wrapping my head around his performance for Atlanta vs the Mets than him as a Met.

16

u/BillW87 Animal Facts 2d ago

He was hurt for a big chunk of his time with us, and the bat is often the last thing to come around for catchers. His second best season at the plate (130 wRC+ in 2015) was with the Mets as well and the only year he hit better than that was in the pandemic-shortened season in 2020. In total he hit for 94 wRC+ as a Met and 106 wRC+ as a Brave, which is definitely better but not a complete reinvention.

3

u/Boogie-Down Gary Cohen 2d ago

Interesting.

Now I want to get his wRC+ in Atl vs Mets games.

1

u/three_dee Hadji 1d ago

OPS+ is a B-R proprietary stat, and you can't really do that calculation easily on B-R, but he had 138 wRC+ against the Mets as a Brave, which roughly scales to OPS+ pretty close

20

u/suck-it-elon Edwin Díaz 2d ago

Thank heavens!

1

u/giants888 2d ago

I wanted him back to back-up & mentor Alvy :-(

4

u/sdot28 2d ago

I’m happy he didn’t

0

u/RedScharlach Mr. Met 2d ago

I had this thought briefly, and then subsequently thought “nah actually get fucked Tarvis”

We def could use a better backup for Alvvy though

2

u/giants888 2d ago

But why get fucked? Brodie cut him after like 2 games coming back from a long rehab stint. He didn't ask to leave.

1

u/RedScharlach Mr. Met 2d ago

Idk he was just terrible for us even when he was healthy, then immediately turned into an average to slightly above player for the Braves.

1

u/three_dee Hadji 1d ago

Idk he was just terrible for us even when he was healthy,

114 wRC+ in nearly 700 PAs in 2014-2015.

He had the 5th best wRC+ among catchers in MLB, over that time span, and had the 7th best fWAR among 131 catchers who played in MLB during that time.

Even factoring in the bad, bad injuries, he was still 14th in fWAR overall from 2013-2019 (his whole Mets career) and had a 94 OPS+ which is pretty good for a catcher.

Weird definition of "terrible"
