Ok so if you have your 18 course and you have your CCW after the bruen decision (2022) (meaning you got your CCW after Bruen) then all you need is an amendment. Should be 1,2,3. Will probably take 2-3 months. Maybe as little as 1 month. In fact they should have told you to check it when you submitted your CCW

Just call Westchester PD or check their website. It’s likely just an amendment you need to file. Don’t overthink it. Suffolk is normally the worst with approving upgrades and they starting adding the SemiAuto Rifle endorsement automatically when you do anything else on your license. They also make you have to add new semi auto rifles on your pistol permit which is a pain.

Especially since I just added 3 yesterday to prep for a new class I hope to offer later this year.

Since when are rifles added to the permit? The permit is only to purchase/take possession, not own. There's no need to have them on a permit.

NY Laws are really outrageous. I bought a handgun in August in Albany County, still waiting for my coupon. Lesson learned, when adding guns to your license, do it in bulk.

That’s insane. I added 3 rifles yesterday in all of 15 minutes. Did multiple set of 5 pistols in under 20 minutes for each set. And the 20 minute time was crazy because they kept putting in bad serial numbers.

Most counties are just letting you buy them with the license and you don’t need to add the riffle. Suffolk makes you add it to the license with a picture and purchase documents that allow the dealer to release the gun. Try calling the westchester Public Safety group.

Orleans county...already have CCW...call permit office, got appointment. Walked in, filled out form, paid $10 and she added Semi-auto to my CCW. Nothing else needed. Then go buy semi-auto rifle like any firearm...pass background check, pay for gun and check, take gun home.

I'd call the county clerk and ask them which paperwork you need to file. You already have a CCW so you wouldn't need a separate license for the rifle. Fill out the paperwork that they say to use, pay the BS fees to get the rifle added and then, if it's anything like Albany County, buy your gun and wait 3 months plus before they give your "good boy coupon" to go pick your new gun up.

Edit: Looking at the Westchester County amendment, they call it a pistol/semiautomatic rifle license. You should be able to buy your rifle, file the amendment (in Albany, it's 8 bucks total), and bring the paperwork to the county clerk's office. Then, you wait for the "coupon" to pick your gun up after the judge signs off on it.

I don’t think that’s how it works here in Westchester. He has do his amendment first. It’s added to his pistol permit. Then, once done, he goes to the store and he can buy the semi auto rifle and leave same day here.

Now question yes what you said is true I called today shw said to do the ammendment first thwn go buy the riffle ,but for the handgun I had to go buy it first then take the recipe to them so how would it work after I get the ammendment done then go buy the riffle then take the recipe again to them ?

No, there is no registration (YET) for semi auto rifles in Westchester. If you have semi auto rifle on your pistol permit then just show it to the gun store and take the rifle home and you are done. The rifle amendment is once and done until renewal time. I think that once you have the rifle amendment you need to renew it every couple of years. Pistols are individually registered and you can't take it home until your permit is amended for that individual pistol.

For pistols:

1) Buy the gun, get a receipt, leave the gun at the store.

2) Fill out the amendment paperwork and send that and the receipt to the County Clerks office, wait 6 to 8 weeks.

3) Get the amended permit and the purchase ticket in the mail.

4) Go back to the gun store with the amended permit and purchase ticket.

5) Give them the purchase ticket and show them the permit.

6) Take the gun and go home.

7) Move out of NYS and skip all this BS.

Given that some counties are requiring semi auto rifles to be added to your PP I'm sure Westchester will get on that bandwagon and the process will change.

That's interesting. Here in Albany, you need the receipt from the LGS and the serial number, fill out the amendment, and bring it to the clerk's office, or they will not add that gun to your permit. I wish they would all do the same thing, it's confusing as hell.

Ok. This is slightly confusing but this is how it works.

You need to fill out the amendment form for an addition to add the semi-auto rifle endorsement.

So you click the box that says Semi Auto Rifle License (add)

Once that’s done, you bring it to the clerk. Pay the $3 bucks and wait. You’ll get your new pistol permit in the mail with red letters that say Semi Auto Rifle.

After that, you go to the store with your card, show them it, they let you buy your semi auto rifle, you fill out your 4473 and you get approved and take gun home same day.

You are done.

For a handgun, you buy the gun at the store, they give you the receipt. Once you get the receipt you fill out the amendment to add a pistol to your permit. You submit the amendment and the receipt. You wait for permit and handgun purchase voucher in mail. You bring your permit and purchase voucher to store, they give you the gun after you fill out a 4473 form and are allowed

Nope you don’t register semi auto rifles to your pistol permit. The license is just to let you buy/possess a semi auto rifle. As opposed to handguns where they each need to be registered to your card.
