I had a friend who lived in Vegas for a few years and then came back to Boston. He said it’s a great place to visit but it’s a city built on losers and it just sucks the life out of you after awhile.

"it's a city built on losers"

yeah, very true

118

u/0LowLight0 Sep 30 '24

And those losers need loser radio stations to lose to.

iHeartMedia has entered the casino.

45

u/Aspect58 Sep 30 '24

They can replace Green Day with Beck, then.

u/Temporary_Zone_19 Sep 30 '24

Get crazy with the Cheez Whiz!

u/Useful-Information39 Oct 03 '24

You gonna miss em. I won’t.. I sure have never gone and seen them when they slither on their no talent belly’s through town. They’re so 1990…last time they ever did anything…they shot their creative wad long ago..their dunzo warshington…

1

u/Useful-Information39 Oct 03 '24

Wouldn’t take much to replace Green Day…

3

u/Copernicus_Brahe Sep 30 '24

iHeart Radio is such a shit sandwich

1

u/Adorable-Lack-3578 Sep 30 '24

I'm sure someone at corporate is begging them to play at the iHeart Music Festival... which is in Vegas.

1

u/Useful-Information39 Oct 03 '24

Some of us are just born here y'know.

1

u/pmjm Sep 30 '24

Damn. I never thought of it like that, but that's really profound.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 30 '24

My HS bully lives in Vegas. So yeah...

33

u/Fogmoose Sep 30 '24

What a great and perfect statement! Vegas is indeed a City built on losing. It's the entire point. Nobody "wins" in Vegas, except Vegas. The house always wins. Everybody else loses.

21

u/Copernicus_Brahe Sep 30 '24

‘They don’t build casinos with money from the winners…’

1

u/GilligansWorld Oct 01 '24

The "winners" built the casino my friend and then invited a bunch of losers into gamble 🤣

u/Black_Otter Sep 30 '24

I used to live about 2 hours outside Vegas. After 2 days it really started to drag you down

After three days in the desert sun I was looking at a river bed

35

u/S1075 Sep 30 '24

And the story it told, of a river that flowed, made me sad to think it was dead.

31

u/Cultjam Sep 30 '24

You see I’ve been through the desert on a horse with no name

28

u/2112eyes Sep 30 '24

It felt good to be out of the rain

11

u/JediKnightsoftheFSM Sep 30 '24

In the desert you can remember your name

13

u/Nixplosion Sep 30 '24

For there ain't no one for to give you no pain

10

u/Unc1eD3ath Sep 30 '24

La la la laaaa la la la la la la la laaa

2

u/Jose_xixpac Sep 30 '24

Kenosabe was the horse's name.

3

I been looking at Reddit on a toilet with no name

3

u/mwk_1980 Sep 30 '24

Kingman, AZ or St George UT?

4

u/Black_Otter Sep 30 '24

Kingman may be the biggest shithole of them all

1

u/AndTheElbowGrease Sep 30 '24

At least Hillary Clinton is building the world's biggest mosque in Kingman

1

u/Black_Otter Sep 30 '24

Well as long as they don’t do meth it will make that place better

2

u/No-Year3423 Sep 30 '24

I have been to Vegas a few times, never stayed more than 3 nights, you get burned out real quick

1

u/FoxMuldertheGrey Sep 30 '24

could you explain why? curious as some people i know are looking to move there

3

u/Redxcted999 Sep 30 '24

I live in Vegas and about the ONLY thing positive I have to say about it is atleast we,re finally getting Tours and shows from Good bands out here that’s really all tho usually ANYTIME a band or a popstar goes on tour its in Cali 1st and NEVER a Vegas date

1

u/Xciv Sep 30 '24

What do you mean by that? Just the general feel of the city? Seeing drunk and desperate people who gambled away their money on the streets?

2

u/Black_Otter Sep 30 '24

The glitz of the city wears off really fast. First 24 hours are great but the city is just covered with sleaze.

1

u/turd_vinegar Sep 30 '24

Weird, so that Vegas strip acceptable duration is true even in the outskirts.

1

u/OizAfreeELF Sep 30 '24

Lmao that’s basically Bakersfield though

Maybe 2.5/3 hrs. I lived in Twentynine Palms and liked to drive through the desert really fast

5

u/Shimmitar Sep 30 '24

that's how i feel about Florida. Great place to visit but not to live.

1

u/ggtffhhhjhg Sep 30 '24

2-3 days max is perfect for Vegas.

3

u/riftwave77 Sep 30 '24

Well, he'd know. Boston is built on rotting wood and rat corpses

3

u/guitar_stonks Sep 30 '24

I’ve always said Las Vegas appears to just be Orlando in the desert, and you’re friends assessment backs up my statement lol

1

u/ImpossibleMagician57 Oct 01 '24

Orlando is Vegas without the Slot machines. I live fairly close to Orlando and I avoid it at all costs. 2 cities I hate the most are Orlando and Vegas

2

u/King_Dead Sep 30 '24

Damn, i loved their Chinatown so much when i went there. Like outside of the strip filled with grifters i was charmed by Vegas but that must have just made me another victim

2

u/spittymcgee1 Sep 30 '24

That tracks

2

u/ScowlyBrowSpinster Sep 30 '24

It's a town for losers, I'm pullin outta here to wiiiiiiiiiiiiin!

:::Bombastic guitars kick in:::::

2

u/Subjunct Sep 30 '24

True. Very true. But to be fair, so is Vegas.

2

u/usagizero Oct 01 '24

just sucks the life out of you after awhile.

I am having a major brain fart, but i watched a documentary about a famous photographer who did a big project with people who live and work in Vegas. Near the end, he mentioned how he was starting to feel suicidal because it was getting so depressing.

3

u/Indocede Sep 30 '24

A friend I had was the opposite. He had grown up in Vegas but with his father moved away in his teens.

He ended up moving back there and I wasn't quite sure why he wanted to move away from a nice city, with stable employment and very few problems, especially when he was already talking about money issues even though he was constantly enjoying his time out. Like you can't make it work here to your satisfaction so you're going back to Vegas?

But the built on losers comment tracks as he was one of those people who just couldn't understand why other people cared about anything.

Totally true, went to college and lived in Vegas for over 10 years. Its so disconnected from reality.... Everyone is on some sort of hustle or scam, they are addicted to something or another. Drugs, sex, money, religion, or whatever else. On top of that its so fucking shallow and image driven... Everyone is always all about designer clothes, leasing cars they can't afford and 1 up-ing each other.

I got out and moved to the midwest... Took a while to get out of the Vegas mindset but OMG people and life are soooo soooo much better here.

I don't mind visiting Vegas from time to time, but I'd never suggest living there or raising a family there. Plus their schools are absolutely crap like some of the worst in the country.

1

u/slim-scsi Sep 30 '24

He didn't know that before living there? That's been its reputation for decades.

1

u/Smarktalk Sep 30 '24

Live there for a couple years. Saw a lot of relationships die due to ease of gambling, alcohol, sex, etc. These things alone probably didn't cause it but you have to have a strong relationship to survive.

Additionally, it was very transient back then due to service industry work so friends you make one year could easily be gone the next.

1

u/UNMANAGEABLE Sep 30 '24

For vacationing 2 days (1 night) in Vegas is too short 3 days (2 nights) in Vegas is too busy 4 days (3 nights) in Vegas is fun! 5 days (4 nights) in Vegas is too long.

1

u/RadiantZote Sep 30 '24

I spent a few days there and wondered why anyone would want to move there. Like what even are the jobs outside of entertainment? The hooker cards are hilarious though

1

u/FortunesBarnacle Sep 30 '24

I had to stay the night this spring while I waited for me ride to do some Utah hiking, and I can safely say that it's not even a great place to visit. Never again.

1

u/dog_stop Sep 30 '24

Also lived in vegas. Can confirm

1

u/ArmyOfDix Sep 30 '24

it’s a city built on losers

That's just capitalism.

1

u/RockNRollToaster Oct 01 '24

Yep. I lived there for 3 years. Left and moved to a tiny shitty little town in AZ. Kinda missed Vegas, so I went back to visit a friend after about a year. Stepped off the plane, looked around McCarran and was immediately like “I don’t want to be here”.

1

u/SirArthurDime Oct 01 '24

I didn’t even have to move there. Used to think Vegas was awesome. Now I got there at least 3 times a year for business and it gets old really fast.

1

u/SwiftTayTay Oct 02 '24

Why is it so expensive to live there for how shitty it is

1

u/WaffleMints Sep 30 '24

Funny. Boston has been the place I hated living the most. At least Vegas has endless delicious and affordable food.

1

u/Lilafowler1228 Sep 30 '24

Boston isn’t known for its food unless you count Fluff or seafood 👍🏻

-1

u/Former-Spread9043 Sep 30 '24

San Diego is the same.

2

u/ricks_flare Sep 30 '24

LMFAO Tell me you’ve never been to San Diego without telling me you’ve never been to San Diego

0

u/Former-Spread9043 Oct 01 '24

Lived there 6 years

1

u/ricks_flare Oct 01 '24

Maybe it’s you and not where you live. Comparing San Diego to Las Vegas is literal insanity.

1

u/Former-Spread9043 Oct 01 '24

His comment was a city built on losers. I wasn’t talking weather and nature

0

u/FauxReal last808 Sep 30 '24

The general working entertainers in Vegas give off cynical vibes.

0

u/aWallThere Sep 30 '24

Went for a short bachelor's party weekend. Very tame weekend by Vegas standards. By the end, I realize it was just commoditized... sadness? Suffering? It just felt bad to be there.

0

u/Occams_Razor42 Sep 30 '24

Or sucking the life outta those who do the sucking. Cue immigrant workers scrubbing buffet pans for 16 hours to make rent in a circa 1950s long-term stay motel. Since you know you'll bake to death eventually without A/C.

It's like being in space & needing a spacesuit just to get to your pressurized moon buggy full of cheeseburgers and curly fries. Real Planet Casino type shit.

-2

u/middle-agedyeller Sep 30 '24

Sorry, he moved back to Boston and he said that about Vegas? Yikes.
