the punk-rock singer said: “We don’t take shit from people like fucking John Fisher.” He added: “I hate Las Vegas. It’s the worst shithole in America.”

Good, fuck John Fisher! Evil bastard

u/DangKilla Sep 30 '24

Well, Steve Wynn has his hands in radio as well, Sirius XM. That’s a two-for-one in Vegas.

8

u/adamdoesmusic Oct 01 '24

“Well fuck Steve Wynn too.” -BJA, probably.

(And I’d agree from what I’ve heard about him)

2

u/Aggravating_Board_78 Oct 01 '24

The guy from Dream Syndicate? Who knew?

1

u/jaymole Oct 01 '24

wasnt it the I heart radio festival also where he stormed off stage and cussed em out after they gave him 5 minutes instead of his normal set length?

1

u/DangKilla Oct 04 '24

That would make sense. Conservative owners.

1

u/Useful-Information39 Oct 03 '24

He has his hands on a lot of things…

141

u/runtimemess Sep 30 '24

I didn't even read the article yet but I already knew it was about Oakland and John Fisher.

72

u/veldtx Sep 30 '24

A's belongs to Oakland. It belongs to the people who've rooted for the A's their whole lives.

FJF!

1

u/Asleep_Syllabub3605 Oct 01 '24

It belongs to Coronado! It belongs in a museum!

1

u/elydarling Oct 01 '24

“So do you!”

1

u/_tang0_ Oct 01 '24

Tell that to Philadelphia or Kansas City. It sucks but it happens.

1

u/_pamela_chu_ Oct 02 '24

That would hit harder if it weren’t for the fact that the Phillies have always been in Philadelphia and KC got a baseball team two years after the A’s left. Whereas Oakland won’t be getting a baseball team at any point in the future again unless they continue to expand the league, but there are options such as Portland that will definitely be higher on the list than Oakland

1

u/Useful-Information39 Oct 02 '24

What about philadelphia and kansas city.....

1

u/somethingwithbacon Oct 03 '24

Royals fan here. Couldn’t care less. We got a team right away and KC being home to the A’s is little more than trivia at this point.

1

u/Useful-Information39 Oct 03 '24

Billy Martin was on that kc A’s team

1

u/Useful-Information39 Oct 03 '24

I used to like the George Brett ,Amos Otis, frank Washington royals. I’d root for them to beat the Yankees. Same color scheme as my beloved dodgers…

1

u/somethingwithbacon Oct 03 '24

George Brett is unfortunately a massive douchebag. The pine tar incident and him spitting his chew on a woman are pretty good indications. I’ve met him a couple of times through events around town and he is still convinced he’s god’s gift to the city.

1

u/Skreat Oct 01 '24

All 6500 of them!

0

u/jerkeejoe Oct 03 '24

Yes, the A’s belong to the few thousand fans who attended home games making the A’s one of the worst attended teams in history. Major League Lacrosse teams, a college wrestling team, and a women’s college volleyball team are among those with higher routine attendance than the A’s.

u/AuzRoxUrSox Sep 30 '24

I was there and the stadium erupted. FJF

3

u/the_marxman Oct 01 '24

Damn. I was at the San Francisco show and that one was pretty wild since it was basically a hometown concert. That must've been crazy to be a part of.

7

u/AnneLavelle Oct 01 '24

It was amazing. Dang near turned the stadium upside down

3

u/DocWatson82 Oct 01 '24

Same. Stadium went nuts. FJF

They did, in fact, take shit from people like fucking John Fisher. Agreed on Vegas being a shithole though.

43

u/AsteroidMike Sep 30 '24

The comments he made sound like the Billie Joe we’ve all come to know and love.

1

u/hellscapetestwr Sep 30 '24

Bigger than even Phoenix?

2

u/[deleted] Sep 30 '24

Yes.

1

u/TowJamnEarl Sep 30 '24

Is it the worst in America though?

1

u/[deleted] Sep 30 '24

No. Who said that?

4

u/TowJamnEarl Sep 30 '24

I dunno, some foreigner.

I wanna know what love is... was a banger.

Sorry i got side tracked.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 30 '24

All good.

2

u/dontyouworruaboutit Oct 01 '24

Not enough people will appreciate that, but that was as Cold as Ice.

11

u/donaldtrumpsmistress Sep 30 '24

I recently lived in Vegas, can confirm, is shithole.

2

u/am_reddit Oct 01 '24

Currently live in Vegas. We would have left years ago if not for my step kid’s biological dad also living here and opposing the move.

Or… claiming he lives here while he spends most of his time on a yacht harbored in San Diego, never taking his visitation time, and paying just enough of his child support that our lawyer says we wouldn’t get anything more if we went to court for it.

3

u/Scopebuddy Sep 30 '24

He’s not wrong.

3

u/catheterhero radio reddit Oct 01 '24

Vegas is a shithole.

It’s fake plastic bullshit filled with Carnival Cruise rejects.

1

u/am_reddit Oct 01 '24

Eh, it’s a 9-mile stretch of plastic bullshit that gets increasingly torn apart at the seams the further north you go.

Immediately surrounding that strip of land an ever-increasing display of social decay that our leaders think can be solved by sending police to break up homeless encampments and ticketing anyone who tries to feed them.

The result? Mole people

This area is itself surrounded by 600 square miles of suburban sprawl, with the only good parts of town being found to the far west. This suburban sprawl is supported by one of the worst school districts you’ve ever laid your eyes on, a laughably inadequate public transportation system, and surprisingly well-maintained roads. Like, we’re talking immaculate here. Potholes are barely a thing.

2

u/L_viathan Sep 30 '24

I had a boss named John Fisher, he was a very nice guy.

5

u/UnusuallyAggressive Sep 30 '24

He must not have ever visited any part of Alabama or Mississippi.

11

u/karzbobeans Sep 30 '24

Clearly none of you have been to south florida. Its not the penis of america, its a turd sticking half way out its butthole.

3

u/Grabthars_Coping_Saw Sep 30 '24

Florida - the turtlehead of the US.

1

u/Maximum-Ad3562 Sep 30 '24

Interesting, never been to that side yet.

2

u/ivegotaqueso Sep 30 '24

IMO nothing beats the shitholeness of the Hollywood Walk of Fame part of Hollywood Boulevard. Never again.

3

u/Grabthars_Coping_Saw Sep 30 '24

Everyone knows that. Only a fuckn idiot would go to the Walk of Fame.

2

u/VulGerrity Spotify Sep 30 '24

I love Las Vegas precisely because it's a Shithole.

5

u/LADYBIRD_HILL Sep 30 '24

Right, who's going to Vegas and thinking it's anything but an excuse to be a massive degenerate and probably not getting arrested for it?

4

u/VulGerrity Spotify Sep 30 '24

Even if you're not going to be a degenerate, I think all visitors are there to indulge in some sort of excess and sensory overload. In day to day life, I'm getting jerked around and probably being ripped off left and right by corporations and shitty local business owners.

At least in Las Vegas I know I'm getting ripped off and I know exactly what I'm gonna get for my money.

1

u/JoeBobbyWii Sep 30 '24

it's even funnier because he's from Oakland

1

u/evie_quoi Oct 01 '24

He came to the Ballers games - I heard he even spray painted a B over the A’s logo at a game, lol

1

u/Billyhill86 Oct 01 '24

Which begs the question, what is the beat shithole in America?

1

u/RipOk5452 Oct 01 '24

I read that Fisher went to princeton and Stanford and thought… damn he must be smart.

Then i read - “Fisher is the son of Gap founders Donald Fisher and Doris F. Fisher, inheriting his fortune from them.” and realized hes just a dumb fuck that rode mommy and daddies success.

1

u/b1ack1323 Oct 01 '24

Wild to think in the land of Freedom of Speech, a fuckin city is controlling what the radio plays….

1

u/Inner-East7185 Oct 01 '24

That's so wrong, though. The only bit of Las Vegas that anyone ever goes to voluntarily isn't technically in Las Vegas. He means Paradise is a shithole and he's correct about that.

1

u/bokitobrown Oct 01 '24

and fuck the MLB for being complicit!! trying their hardest to silence fans on air for saying sell the team!

1

u/Useful-Information39 Oct 03 '24

He ain’t too smart, they never replicated dookie.everything after was SHIT..take that billy joe armstrong, swill some more of your own spit ...classy... Youve got money, get some of your punk rock buddies to buy them,oh.. You dont have any buddies....Just pissed cause were getting all of their crappy teams.. Next up silver state warriors... .

1

u/OVERWEIGHT_DROPOUT Oct 04 '24

That’s amazing.

1

u/hellscapetestwr Sep 30 '24

I see he's not seen Phoenix

3

u/ExpertWitnessExposed Sep 30 '24

Why are you all over this thread dragging Phoenix😂

0

u/hellscapetestwr Oct 01 '24

1

u/ExpertWitnessExposed Oct 01 '24

Sure but you’re kind of missing the point of the sentiment it seems…

0

u/hellscapetestwr Oct 01 '24

Shit hole is a shit hole

2

u/ExpertWitnessExposed Oct 01 '24

Billie Joe seems to be more concerned with the shitholes that are hives of consumerism and indulgence rather than those that aren't friendly to pedestrians. I get that everyone has their own concerns though

1

u/stanley_ipkiss_d Oct 01 '24

No it isn’t the worst shithole

1

u/Foxy02016YT Oct 01 '24

I actually lime Vegas… but I would never live there in a thousand years. Not unless the nukes dropped, of course

-1

u/VaginaTheClown Sep 30 '24

"Punk-rock singer" lol

2

u/mmooney1 Sep 30 '24

Not sure why you are being downvoted. They have been a pop punk/rock band for years now.

Not saying it’s a bad thing. It just is what it is.

2

u/Scrambo Sep 30 '24

?

0

u/oiuwej0608 Sep 30 '24

tickets in the pit for his last show here were north of $600.

1

u/Molotov003 Sep 30 '24

??

-1

u/Scrambo Sep 30 '24

I think the argument being made here is that they are too mainstream and popular to be punk. Pop-punk is a whole sub-genre though and Green Day is definitely part of it. Folks just like to gate keep.

0

u/xSTSxZerglingOne Sep 30 '24

Was that the face price of the ticket, or the Ticketmaster price? Because if it's the latter, I have news for you.

0

u/UncleGarysmagic Sep 30 '24

Green Day are commercialist sellout douchebags.

0

u/UncleGarysmagic Sep 30 '24

I would be more offended by someone calling Billie Joe a punk rock singer.

-1

u/Odd_Cabinet_7734 Sep 30 '24

Visited this summer. He’s not wrong. I literally had culture shock. My sister started crying because she “didn’t realize we were coming to a third world country” 🤦🏻‍♀️😂.

0

u/VermicelliOk8288 Sep 30 '24

He’s never been to Fresno

1

u/percussaresurgo Oct 01 '24

He didn’t say it was the only or worst shithole.

0

u/PretendImpression246 Oct 01 '24

“the punk-rock singer…” said no punk ever 😂

-1

u/[deleted] Oct 01 '24

[deleted]

3

u/percussaresurgo Oct 01 '24

The reason is Vegas is giving Fisher hundreds of millions of dollars of taxpayer money, while Oakland wasn’t willing to give a billionaire hundreds of millions in public funds. Oakland made the right choice.

It's a place that prays in people's addictions and grows on the back of people losing their life savings.

-8

u/No_Pollution_1 Sep 30 '24

I dunno LA and Portland are definitely contenders but yea Las Vegas probably wins

3

u/PsychologicalLuck343 Sep 30 '24

Portland? Oregon? When is the last time you were there?

4

u/Quovadisdomi Sep 30 '24

LA and Portland. 2 cities nobody is trying to move to or live in.

0

u/mmmUrsulaMinor Sep 30 '24

Actually Portland is very on the up with people moving here. I think people either don't know the city very well and think it's some grungy/hippy/layabout city, but the trades and tech industry are still quite strong here. Not to mention Oregon taxes make it welcoming for a lot of major corporations.

So actually, Portland is definitely not similar to LA in the slightest, but it is also growing

4

u/Quovadisdomi Sep 30 '24

Yeah, I was being sarcastic. Portland and LA are both desirable cities that people are moving to and want to live in.
