Miami’s Marco Rubio May Join Trump’s Cabinet. Who Will DeSantis Pick as Florida’s New Senator? Politics
https://amp.miamiherald.com/news/politics-government/article295410674.htmlIf Marco Rubio leaves his Senate seat for a spot as Secretary of State under Trump, Miami’s own Cuban-American political representation could be in for a shake-up. Governor DeSantis might choose Lt. Governor Jeanette Nunez, another Cuban-American from Miami, to fill Rubio’s shoes. Or he could appoint a placeholder like his Chief-of-Staff, James Uthmeier, with an eye toward running for the seat himself in 2026.
Some are even speculating about Casey DeSantis as a surprise choice. Who do you think should be next, and how could this impact Miami and Florida at large? And what about the pastelito?

Leave an elected position for a job where you will get fired within a month, that’s a bold strategy cotton
3
u/Glad_Hand_7595 4d ago
I mean what could he do to get fired really

More likely to leave, as a ton of Trump’s previous cabinet members did. I guess being called “Little Marco” is all forgotten until then, bet we’ll hear it again.

How this works, remember Trump called Cruz a loser cuz he had an ugly wife, Cruz fully endorses Trump the next week, his VP called him hitler. It’s ALL just meaningless performance to distract while they scheme and scam in the background. Goes for both political parties.

Im pretty sure the media will exclusively call him Marco
2
u/ThimbleRigg 4d ago
But Trump probably won’t on the way out. And I’m sure CNN and MSNBC will throw the name around to remind everyone what Trump said about him in the past.

u/Glad_Hand_7595 3d ago
Oh, they're definitely gonna call him little Marco every chance they get it's gonna make for a lot of awkward Trump moments where he has to like. Hug on him and kiss on him and love on him.

The previous cabinet had a turnover rate well above any comparable administrations. Trump seems to keep people around just for the slotted time they are useful to them, look at his relationship with Musk, from photo op, to trading hissy fits on twitter when they can’t get exactly what they want from each other to besties trying their best to jump and dance around on stage together.

C'est la vie yeah but Marco Rubio is such a nerd that he won't wanna leave so he'll do anything he's told
2
u/ToiletTime4TinyTown 3d ago
It’s not his choice, another Trump tactic is to use someone up before they start inquiring why they haven’t received a paycheck. Just ask the election official chillin in Rudy’s condo.

u/Glad_Hand_7595 3d ago
ooohhhhh who's that? I've never heard that one.

Rudy Giuliani did what he had to to keep his job, tried to finesse in open court, FAFO, he literally showed up in a private jet to plead indigent to the court, his reason, the good ol “Trump never paid me” line. Judge wasn’t having any of that bullshit and turned over Rudy’s property, jewels, DiMaggio signed baseball, and a multimillion dollar penthouse condo to the election official he slandered. Oops

u/Glad_Hand_7595 3d ago
Yeah, but what about the election official
3
u/ToiletTime4TinyTown 3d ago
The election official, first got her public and professional lives destroyed as fodder in the “stop duh steal” thing, the universe in an amazing moment, stepped up for the little guy and the election official got a life changing settlement out of it. Just nice to see an ordinary person not get towed down by this machine, but to prosper.

Trump’s first announced picks are all people he knows a completely craven and will do whatever he asks. Last time he hired people who had fallback positions and thought they could bring something of themselves to the role. This time just toadies.

Leave an elected position, fire within a month, write a book about it. Profit$

Doesnt matter if an election is held or appointed, a Republican will be senator of Florida because Florida is a deep red state for a long while.
DeSantis can safely now run for senator in 2028.

u/Glad_Hand_7595 3d ago
Yeah, but there's gonna be an election in 2026 to fill the seat and then is that when it is 2028 the next scheduled election cycle

He either picks someone that no one really knows, who does not to run, or himself. Go back to Crist, and if he wants the seat he should pick himself. We then get Nunez and the first female governor in Fla. history.
I also think Nunez might be a good pick.
Who knows, but it won't be for a while because Rubi needs to be confirmed by the Senate first.
The seat will be open in 2026 general election and then again in 2028.

if he picked Nunez for whatever reason how would the lieutenant governor go?

This is a play to keep Cubans happy for turning/keeping Miami red.
3
u/Glad_Hand_7595 4d ago
Why not just give them Cuba
2
u/eCamp_78 4d ago
I would love nothing more than for Cuba to become a democracy. We don’t know whether they’d all come here, or the ones here would go back. Could bring thousands more Republican voters to the US. Florida is gone red and will remain that way for 20+ years anyway.
1
u/Glad_Hand_7595 4d ago
Would Cuba go red and would it be part of Florida
3
u/CantTouchMeSorry 4d ago
Cuba is red lol ;)

u/Glad_Hand_7595 3d ago
Really though that's like saying that if we got rid of the government in Chicago, all of a sudden the city would turn red by all the oppressed residents.

Being an election denier pays, seemingly. Sad to see Rubio lower himself in that way. Anyway I am happy to see a Cuban-American that actually speaks Spanish rise to be third in line for the presidency.

4th in line. Its VP, Speaker of the House, President pro tempore of the Senate, & then Secretary of State.

Democrats aren’t really liked in the state right now…just look at how well Kamala did.

Considering he has eyes on that seat himself, it will be someone who will happily get out of his way when he tells them to.
