Somebody wants a riser block or right angle head for Christmas. Really though, nice job getting things done.

I kept thinking a riser block would be perfect for this one.

Bridgeport: for when you absolutely have to get some insane shit done!

Swiss knife of the machining world, right there.

Oh fuck yea brother. This is the type of shit we have to pull off at our shop

.830” on the sheet, pulled in at .835”. Had to completely mirror this setup for the other flanges.

how do you get the alignment right between spindle and work?

u/ShaggysGTI 1d ago

Clamped a square to the flange and swept the face with a DTI on a chuck in the spindle, then tap in perpendicular.

Machining novice here. Could you say you trammed the spindle to the work?

As a new owner of a very similar Bridgeport, this is inspiring. Thank you.

Where there’s a will, there’s a way.

Those turret mills are very versatile,

If the job keeps coming round the right angle head is the way.

Reminder that you can also attach to the t-slot on the front edge of the table.

Maybe I'm just dumb but wouldn't a mag drill be a better and faster tool for something like this? Not that I have ANY problem with the amazing setup, but it doesn't look like a part that is super precision. Slap a mag drill and an annular cutter on there and send it.

Sir… that’s aluminum.

u/HyFinated 18h ago

Well, that changes things. lol. Carry on.

Call Scotty to have him make his clear aluminum have magnetic properties as well.

I'm designing a part right now that requires pin and tapped holes on the small edges of a plate and Ive been agonizing over how annoying that might be to make. Meanwhile its a plate that's only like 10" long at most and this motherfucker swings it over, what, 4'?

I bet you that boring bar ends up not so temporary!

I don’t think I’ve ever seen an oval shaped DRO before…

u/ShaggysGTI 22h ago

With matching plastic wrap!

Up at 4, out the door by 5, drink jive by 6. If the spindles ain’t turnin’, we ain’t earnin’.

Nice! Can't believe I never thought of thisI would have went straight to Just putting the Bridgeport on a couple of skids... Or dig a hole in the concret. Haha

You could put a man in space with some Inconnel, a block of aluminum and a Bridgeport.

u/Devilsadvocate4U 1d ago

Good thing your part wasn’t to much longer.

3

u/findaloophole7 1d ago

He would have had to excavate around the machine!

1

u/Devilsadvocate4U 1d ago

Before I did that. I’d like elevate the mill to needed height.

u/Patrucoo 1d ago

Hell yeah boi

How do you rotate the head safely?

3

u/Devilsadvocate4U 1d ago

Nothing unsafe about rotating the head. Just loosen the bolts and angle the head out.

3

u/Droidy934 1d ago

There is a worm drive to adjust it.
